Prices start at $100 for the entry-level Ring Video Doorbell with 720p resolution, and they climb as high as $500 for the Ring Video Doorbell Elite with 1080p resolution, Ethernet support, and plenty more. That’s a hefty chunk of change to cough up for a video doorbell though, which might be why most people land on the $200 Ring Video Doorbell 2. And now, Amazon has unveiled a new version of this model dubbed the Ring Video Doorbell 3. It’s currently available for pre-order ahead of its release on April 8, and it costs $200 just like the second-generation version it replaces. Before you order one though, there’s another route you should consider.

Of course, the Ring Video Doorbell 2 does all that as well! The only real differences are 5Ghz Wi-Fi support and slightly different motion detection controls. Is that worth paying extra for?

You can set motion zones as well so that you’re not alerted when cars drive by, for example.

There’s no question that the Ring Video Doorbell 2 is well worth its regular price of $200, but Amazon just dropped the price for a limited time to $169. It’s the first time the standalone Ring Doorbell 2 has gone on sale this year so far, but this deal won’t last long so definitely get in on the action before it’s too late.
