Where’s my stimulus money? How to track your check from the IRS
- The Trump administration, via the IRS, has begun sending out the first wave of stimulus checks as part of the massive, $2.2 trillion stimulus legislation Congress recently passed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
- Included in that stimulus bill was funding to provide most Americans with a direct $1,200 payment (and $2,400, for married couples).
- The IRS has set up a “Get My Payment” page that includes a tracker where you can check on the status of your stimulus check, in case you’re wondering “where’s my stimulus money?”
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The fact that millions of Americans are waiting right now on a check from Uncle Sam of as much as $1,200 (or $2,400, in the case of married couples) is one of the clearest indicators that we’re living in extraordinary times right now. To keep the US economy from collapsing in on itself and taking all of us with it, the Trump administration has begun essentially just printing money and sending it out to Americans in the form of direct deposits — or, for some of you, paper checks that will come later, in the mail.
I don’t know about you, but I’m still waiting on mine, and it’s looking like my original prediction that many people wouldn’t receive their money until May — despite US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin insisting these check disbursements would happen pretty quickly in April — is holding true. It’s a massive undertaking, to be sure, sending out waves of money like this. You’ve got to figure out who all qualifies, whose information you have, and where to send the money, all of which leads to the million-dollar question everybody wants to know: So, where’s my stimulus money? Luckily, there’s an easy way to check on the status of your check, thanks to a tracker the IRS set up not long after Congress passed the massive stimulus legislation that included funding for these checks.

Top 10 shows everyone’s binge-watching right now on Netflix and TV
- Most Americans who live anywhere near a novel coronavirus hot zone have now been in self-quarantine for at least a month, and they’re likely on the verge of exhausting the lists of shows they’ve been meaning to catch up on.
- If that describes your situation and you’re in search of new shows to stream online or watch on TV, a good place to begin your search is with the new shows and new seasons of returning shows that everyone is watching right now.
- In this post, you’ll find the top 10 most frequently binge-watched shows out there right now, as measured by popular TV show tracking app TV Time.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
I live right in the middle of the novel coronavirus hot zone in Bergen County, New Jersey, which means I have now been in “self-quarantine” or “sheltering in place” for more than a month now. If you’ve been isolating for that long as well, I don’t have to explain to you how difficult it can get at times. If you’re not in the same boat, you’re either irresponsible or you live in an area that hasn’t been on lockdown for that long. Unfortunately, it’ pretty safe at this point to say that you’ll soon feel our pain. The lockdowns aren’t going to end anytime soon unless we want to ensure a massive second wave of infections, so we’re going to be sheltering in our homes for at least another month at the minimum.
Some of us are lucky enough to be able to work or take classes from home, though millions of Americans don’t have that luxury. In either case, you’re still going to have a whole lot of time on your hands from staying at home so much. That means you’ve likely burned through all the TV shows and movies you’ve been meaning to catch up on, and you’re looking for new content to watch. Lucky for you, we’ve got a great resource that will help you figure out what to binge-watch next.

Apple’s 10.2-inch iPad is down to $299 at Amazon
- With people still cooped up at home as we all continue to shelter in place, tablets have become hugely popular because they combine a large display with the privacy of a mobile device.
- Amazon is running several impressive deals on tablets right now, including a sale that slashes $30 of Apple’s 10.2-inch iPad.
- Hurry and grab one before they sell out, and you’ll get a 7th-generation Apple iPad starting at just $299, which is a nice discount from the tablet’s normal $329 price.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
We have been covering a bunch of impressive deals on tablets lately here at BGR Deals, and there are two good reasons for that. First, tablets are hugely popular right now because everyone is trapped inside so much due to shelter in place orders. Coronavirus quarantines won’t be ending anytime soon, and tablets are a perfect quarantine companion since you get the privacy and mobility of a smartphone but with a much larger screen. And second, there have been some truly terrific deals on tablets lately.
The craziest tablet sale we’ve covered in the past few weeks is Amazon’s current sale on the Fire HD 8 Tablet. The 32GB model costs $110 new and Amazon also sells a $40 Show Mode Charging Dock that charges the tablet while propping it up for viewing. That’s a $150 total value, but you can pick up a Certified Refurbished Fire HD 8 Tablet bundled with a dock right now for only $69.99! As a reminder, Certified Refurbished products are guaranteed to look and function like new and they even come with the same warranty as a brand new product.
That Fire tablet deal is indeed terrific, but there’s another deal right now on Amazon that Apple fans will definitely prefer. It offers the perfect balance between power and price, and most importantly, it delivers Apple’s beloved iPadOS experience on a nice big 10.2-inch display.
New Apple iPad (10.2-Inch, Wi-Fi, 32GB) – Space Gray (Latest Model): $299.00
Most SKUs of Apple’s 7th-Generation iPad tablet have been out of stock at Amazon for so long because they’re among the best-selling products in Amazon’s electronics category. When they were in stock, a few different sizes and color options were available with slight discounts. Hurry over to Amazon right now, however, and you’ll find that the 10.2-inch iPad is somehow back in stock in Space Gray with 32GB. What’s even crazier, however, is the fact that it’s on sale with a solid $30 discount.
That cuts your cost to just $299, and you know you’re getting a good deal anytime you can score an iPad for under $300. There are also a few other size and color combinations that are still in stock at Amazon, but they’re all bound to sell out soon now that the cat’s out of the bag.

Flu season could make the second coronavirus wave even more devastating, CDC says
- The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a new interview that a second coronavirus wave this winter might be even more devastating than the first.
- Dr. Robert Redfield said the next coronavirus outbreak will likely overlap with the flu season, which could put additional strain on the healthcare system.
- He added that authorities need to continue to invest in COVID-19 testing and contact tracing to better handle the second wave, and they must encourage people to get flu shots.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
CDC director Dr. Robert Redfield warned a few days ago that a second coronavirus wave will hit later this year. The news came amid increased chatter from the White House about easing social distancing measures and restarting the economy. “I think we have to assume this is like other respiratory viruses, and there will be a seasonality to it,” Redfield said at the time. Now, he has elaborated on the matter in a new interview. The doctor believes that the second coronavirus wave might be even more devastating than the first, and that’s because it won’t be just COVID-19 that you’ll have to worry about this winter. The flu comes back every year, and combined with a COVID-19 resurgence, it might put an even more devastating strain on resources.

Game-changing coronavirus treatment might’ve just saved a child’s life
- More anecdotal evidence shows that a therapy that was successfully used during the Spanish Flu pandemic more than 100 years ago works on COVID-19 patients as well.
- Plasma containing antibodies from patients who have survived a novel coronavirus infection can be used to treat other COVID-19 patients wth active infections.
- However, the results are still preliminary and more research is required to determine how to best take advantage of this type of therapy.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
There’s no miracle cure for the novel coronavirus and we’ll have to wait a while for one to arrive. We’re looking at two possible types of treatments that could arrive in the somewhat near future, as well as a third one that’s available right now. The first one consists of medicine that’s meant to treat other ailments, but which can be used to hasten COVID-19 recovery. Drugs like hydroxychloroquine and remdesivir fit that bill, as well as plenty of others that are in clinical trials to determine their efficacy and safety. The conclusions of these trials will be here soon. Then we have vaccines that will prevent COVID-19 infections, assuming a few of the more than 70 candidates are successful. Again, they have to be effective and safe, and they won’t be widely available for at least 12 to 18 months.
The third treatment is a 100-year old therapy that can work for a wide range of infectious diseases: plasma transfusions from cured patients. This therapy is here now, it works, and it may already be saving lives.

WHO says it knows the origin of the novel coronavirus
- The World Health Organization (WHO) says the novel coronavirus came from animals, and there’s no evidence of lab manipulation.
- Some conspiracy theories claim COVID-19 was either engineered by humans or escaped a research lab in Wuhan.
- Scientists have already demonstrated there’s no similarity between the new virus and any other known virus that could prove the virus had been crafted in a lab.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
From the early days of the novel coronavirus outbreak, some people went straight to conspiracy theories in their attempts to explain the potentially deadly new virus. At the same time, researchers studied the virus closely and were able to quickly map its genetic sequence and allow others to start vaccine research faster than ever. Other doctors looked at the SARS-CoV-2 genome for answers and concluded there was no way that the virus could have been engineered in a lab. They came to that conclusion by comparing the novel virus to other strains of known viruses. Yet some people can’t shut up about COVID-19 having been engineered in a laboratory.
All the evidence dismisses the possibility of the new virus having been manmade, and we’ve explained the latest developments on the matter. Now, the WHO also says the virus originated in an animal, and there are no signs whatsoever of lab manipulation.
