Idiot doctor with a coronavirus ‘miracle cure’ charged with fraud
- California doctor claimed to have a “miracle cure” for COVID-19.
- Dr. Jennings Ryan Staley is charged with mail fraud after admitting to illegally importing drugs from China and selling “treatment packs” to patients.
- There is no cure for the novel coronavirus, and while vaccines and treatments are in development, nothing has been approved or made available to the public.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
In the midst of a global health crisis like the coronavirus pandemic, we’re all searching for answers. Listening to the advice of doctors would seem like a good idea, but some medical professionals, like Dr. Jennings Ryan Staley, are exploiting the situation for their own benefit. Staley is now facing federal charges after falsely claiming to have a “Miracle Cure” for COVID-19.
Staley peddled his “cure,” which he claimed was “100%” effective, out of the Skinny Beach Med Spa in San Diego. I’m no health expert, but looking for a cure for a viral pandemic in a place called the Skinny Beach Med Spa already sounds like a bad idea.

Last chance to get the most incredible Fire HD 8 Tablet deal we’ve ever seen
- Amazon’s most popular Fire HD 8 Tablet model is sold out right now, but an even better deal has popped up on the retailer’s site — in fact, it’s the best Fire HD 8 Tablet deal we’ve ever seen.
- The device typically sells for $80, but it’s available right now through Amazon’s Certified Refurbished program with a full warranty for just $39.99.
- In addition to the tablet itself, this deal also includes a Show Mode Charging Dock for free, and the dock alone is a $40 value.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Amazon’s Fire HD 8 Tablet is by far our favorite tablet in Amazon’s lineup. Priced at $80 compared to hundreds of dollars for a comparable iPad, the device offers the perfect balance between size and affordability. It’s not as inexpensive as the Fire 7 but it’s still a terrific value. It’s also not as large as the Fire HD 10 so it’s wonderfully portable despite its nice big high-definition display.
Unfortunately, the most popular Fire HD 8 Tablet model is sold out right now at Amazon, which is a shame since it retails for $80 but was on sale for just $50. The black model is indeed sold out, though it’s still available in other colors at the discounted price. Before you pick up a new Fire HD 8 on sale though, there’s another deal you definitely need to know about.
Earlier this week, we told you about a sale we came across that completely blew us away. For a limited time only, Amazon is offering Certified Refurbished Fire HD 8 Tablets for just $39.99. That in itself is an incredible value considering how great this tablet is, but this sale gets even sweeter. In addition to the $80 tablet, you also get a $40 Show Mode Charging Dock for free! That’s a $120 value for just $39.99, and it’s a deal that is definitely unbeatable.
Certified Refurbished Fire HD 8 Tablet (8″ HD Display, 16 GB) – Black with Show Mode Charging D…: $39.99
For those unaware of how Amazon’s Certified Refurbished program works, there are really only a few things you need to know. First, devices sold as part of this program have been thoroughly inspected and are guaranteed to look and function like new. Second, if for some reason you receive a tablet that doesn’t look and function like new, you can return it for a full refund. And third, Certified Refurbished products come with a full manufacturer warranty just like they would if they were brand new. There’s literally zero downside.
This killer Fire HD 8 Tablet deal will almost certainly disappear either today or over the weekend, so we wanted to give our readers one last shot to get in on the action. Don’t miss out, because you’ll be sorry you did.

This coronavirus drug shows promise treating severe COVID-19 cases
- A promising coronavirus drug that’s been in testing around the world for months is showing promise at treating COVID-19 severe cases.
- Remdesivir is the medicine in question, an anti-viral originally created to treat Ebola.
- Anecdotal evidence shows that the drug can reduce fever and need for ventilation, and can significantly improve the condition of severe COVID-19 patients.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
COVID-19 has already killed more than 144,000 people out of the 2.2 million reported cases since the new disease was detected in China nearly four months ago. Sadly, tens of thousands more will likely die in the weeks to come, as the novel coronavirus reaches local peaks in various countries. But the race to find a vaccine is on, with more than 70 candidates in development around the world, including three that have reached clinical trials. At the same time, doctors are testing potentially life-saving therapies for COVID-19 by repurposing existing drugs that are meant to treat other ailments. One of them is hydroxychloroquine, the controversial anti-malarial drug that was featured prominently during White House briefings. The drug has delivered results in limited studies, while other research showed the drug isn’t as good as expected. Also, its severe side-effects on the heart prompted the stoppage of other studies.
That’s not the only coronavirus cure that physicians are testing right now, and there’s one other drug that’s showing promising results in patients with severe COVID-19 cases.

Get gorgeous Nooie LED color smart bulbs for $7.50 each instead of $15
- Philips Hue is typically the first name that comes to mind when people think of LED smart lighting solutions, but there are several other premium smart light brands that offer similarly elegant solutions.
- One of the best examples is Nooie, which offers a range of LED smart light bulbs with a gorgeous design and plenty of great features like voice control via Alexa and Google Assistant integration.
- Nooie LED smart light bulbs are already far less expensive than comparable Philips Hue bulbs even without any sale, but a special Amazon coupon slashes them to the lowest price we’ve ever seen.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a million times: Philips Hue’s various LED smart lighting solutions are fantastic, but they’re also grossly overpriced. Every time we see a sale on an LED smart light bulb that’s comparable to something Philips Hue offers, we’re reminded yet again how expensive the company’s various products are. Today, the reminder is even more painful than most.
Head over to Amazon or any other retailer to pick up a standard E26 multicolor LED smart bulb from Philips Hue, and you’ll pay $50. That’s right, $50 for a single light bulb. Meanwhile, smart lighting bran Nooie offers bulbs that are just as elegant and that offer just as many features, but they cost a small fraction of that price.
At full retail, you can pick up a 4-pack of Nooie Aura E26 Smart LED Multicolor Bulbs for $60. That’s right… four bulbs for just $10 more than a single Philips Hue bulb with all the same features. Today, however, you can use the special coupon code NOOIEHOME to get a 4-pack for $29.99. That’s just $7.50 per bulb! The same coupon will slash the price of a 2-pack from $35 to $17.49. These are both fantastic deals but they won’t be around for much longer, so get in on the action while you still can.

Where’s my stimulus check? 4 reasons why it hasn’t arrived yet
- The IRS has started the process of sending out coronavirus stimulus checks after the Trump administration decided that direct payments to Americans would be a major part of the massive coronavirus relief legislation passed by Congress.
- If you’re among the Americans wondering “Where’s my stimulus check?” right now, here are some reasons why your payment may have been delayed.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
One of the many tangible pieces of evidence that we’re living through bizarre and uncertain times right now is the fact that because the deadly COVID-19 coronavirus has sparked such a catastrophic slowdown in the US economy, we’re all waiting on checks (or direct bank deposits) of at least $1,200 from Uncle Sam.
What an insane sentence to write, to think that this is America circa April 2020. But here we are — tens of millions of Americans out of work right now, and the government is printing money to give everyone at least a little something to make it easier to bear some of the hardship. Which brings us to the question on most peoples’ minds: What’s the status of your stimulus check? The IRS released an online tool this week allowing you to check, but if yours hasn’t arrived yet, here are a handful of reasons why that might be the case.

New iPhone SE preorders are live – get the original instead for $95
- Apple’s new iPhone SE is now available for preorder, with prices starting at just $399.
- That’s an incredible value for a phone with cutting-edge specs that is faster and more powerful than most flagship Android phones — even ones that cost $1,000 or more.
- While the new iPhone SE for 2020 is clearly a great value, it has some drawbacks that fans of the original iPhone SE aren’t happy about. As it turns out, however, Amazon has a number of deals available on the first-generation iPhone SE with prices that start at just $95.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Apple finally unveiled its second-generation iPhone SE for 2020 earlier this week, and it’s available to preorder on the company’s website beginning today. With a released date set for next Friday, April 24th, the new iPhone SE is quite possibly the best value in smartphones that will be released all year this year. The phone sports 3GB of RAM and Apple’s newest iPhone processor, the powerful A13 Bionic chipset that has no equal among rival chips.
The new second-generation iPhone SE also offers a fantastic camera that is bolstered by advanced software-based image processing, as well as the Touch ID fingerprint scanner that may iPhone users miss so much. With a starting price of just $399, it seems like it could be the perfect phone for anyone more concerned with value and performance than with a fancy all-screen design. Unfortunately for many people, however, there is one huge drawback with the new iPhone SE 2020 that plenty of people are unhappy about: The size.
Apple iPhone SE, 32GB, Space Gray – For AT&T / T-Mobile (Renewed): $95.00+
One of the things people loved most about the original iPhone SE was the size. While the 4.7-inch screen on the new iPhone SE is much smaller than most smartphones these days, the huge bezels above and below the screen make the phone itself just as big as a device like the iPhone 11. iPhone SE users loved the fact that they could get a handset that was more compact thanks to its 4-inch screen and slim profile, but that’s no longer the case.
The good news is that there is somewhere you can still get your hands on an original iPhone SE. And the better news is that you can get one right now for as little as $95. As attractive as the 2020 iPhone SE is at $399, $95 is an absolute steal! The catch is that the iPhone SE models available on Amazon right now are renewed, which means supply is very limited and once they sell out they’re likely gone for good. There were 16GB and 32GB models in stock for just $95 at the time of this writing though, so click around through the different size and color options to find the best match for you.

Terrifying video shows how far coronavirus can travel in a sneeze
- A new video reveals how far a sneeze can spray coronavirus droplets if there are no barriers to obstruct their path.
- Virus-carrying droplets of various sizes can travel up to 27 feet, or well beyond the recommended 6-foot social distancing recommendations.
- Healthcare personnel treating COVID-19 patients might require personal protective equipment even while they’re farther than 6 feet away from infected people.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The spread of the novel coronavirus can be slowed significantly by adhering to strict social distancing measures until local outbreaks are contained, coupled with improved hygiene. But there’s no way to completely isolate yourself from the world. People still have to go out for food and supplies, and essential services employ a workforce of millions of people who also have to go out every day. That’s where the risk of transmission increases, especially in crowded places. A sneeze or a cough for someone infected is enough to pass on the disease to other people. That’s why the use of face masks or covers is encouraged. Also, people are advised to sneeze and cough in their elbow or a tissue that they can dispose of.
Official guidelines say you should be at least 3 feet away from other people while some advise a distance of 6 feet as safe, the idea being that droplets might not be able to travel that far in the air. But more and more studies indicate that the virus might be able to survive in the air for longer than believed and travel over longer distances. Now, a new video shows that droplets ejected via a sneeze can travel up to 27 feet if there’s no barrier to stop them.

Top 10 shows everyone’s binge-watching right now on Netflix and TV
- Most Americans who live anywhere near a novel coronavirus hot zone have now been in self-quarantine for at least a month, and they’re likely on the verge of exhausting the lists of shows they’ve been meaning to catch up on.
- If that describes your situation and you’re in search of new shows to stream online or watch on TV, a good place to begin your search is with the new shows and new seasons of returning shows that everyone is watching right now.
- In this post, you’ll find the top 10 most frequently binge-watched shows out there right now, as measured by popular TV show tracking app TV Time.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
I live right in the middle of the novel coronavirus hot zone in Bergen County, New Jersey, which means I have now been in “self-quarantine” or “sheltering in place” for more than a month now. If you’ve been isolating for that long as well, I don’t have to explain to you how difficult it can get at times. If you’re not in the same boat, you’re either irresponsible or you live in an area that hasn’t been on lockdown for that long. Unfortunately, it’ pretty safe at this point to say that you’ll soon feel our pain. The lockdowns aren’t going to end anytime soon unless we want to ensure a massive second wave of infections, so we’re going to be sheltering in our homes for at least another month at the minimum.
Some of us are lucky enough to be able to work or take classes from home, though millions of Americans don’t have that luxury. In either case, you’re still going to have a whole lot of time on your hands from staying at home so much. That means you’ve likely burned through all the TV shows and movies you’ve been meaning to catch up on, and you’re looking for new content to watch. Lucky for you, we’ve got a great resource that will help you figure out what to binge-watch next.

AirPods Pro and AirPods with wireless charging are both at all-time low prices
- Whatever you do, don’t buy AirPods 2 right now… because AirPods 2 with Wireless Charging Case just dropped to a new all-time low price on Amazon that’s $10 less than what Apple charges for the base model.
- On top of that, Amazon is also still offering AirPods Pro cord-free earbuds with active noise cancelling for the lowest price ever, matching the retailer’s sale price from Black Friday last year.
- These deals both first appeared earlier this week on Amazon’s site, and there’s a good chance they’ll be gone after today or by the end of the weekend.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
When Amazon first announced that it was shifting its focus away from most products so that it could focus the majority of its efforts on stocking and shipping medical supplies to hospitals, many people panicked. While it’s clear that there were definitely big delays on some items and many more still won’t ship until sometime next month, many of the more “essential” nonessentials have been shipping out fast this entire time.
Among the most notable exceptions to Amazon’s new rule are Apple’s various AirPods models, which have been best-sellers on Amazon for many months now. What’s even crazier than the fact that these nonessential headphones aren’t seeing any serious shipping delays is the pricing — AirPods 2 and AirPods Pro have been on sale at all-time low prices several times over the past few weeks. Now, Amazon is taking things to the next level.
Most of our readers who are interested in AirPods 2 as opposed to AirPods Pro opt for the entry-level version with the normal charging case. Needless to say, the explanation is pretty simple: they’re cheaper. AirPods 2 retail for $159 while the upgraded model with wireless charging sells for $199. On Amazon with their normal discounts, the base model drops to $139 and the upgraded version usually sells for $169, which is still a pretty wide gap. Right now, however, AirPods 2 with Wireless Charging Case are down to a new all-time low that’s $10 lower than the price we saw last year during Black Friday. Hurry and you can get a pair for just $149.98!
Apple AirPods with Wireless Charging Case: $149.98
Where AirPods Pro are concerned, Apple’s first cord-free Bluetooth earphones with active noise cancellation are still on sale right now at last year’s all-time low price from Black Friday and Cyber Week. That means instead of paying $250 like you would from Apple or most of its retail partners, you can head over to Amazon right now and pick up a pair for $234.98.
Apple AirPods Pro: $234.98
