Xbox Series X can play Xbox One games from an external hard drive
- Microsoft is making backwards compatibility a priority on the Xbox Series X.
- If you want to play your Xbox One games on an Xbox Series X, all you have to do is plug in an external hard drive with the games on it and you can immediately start playing them.
- Xbox Series X games can only be played from the internal SSD or a Seagate expansion drive.

Regardless of the differences between teraflops and compute units and memory bandwidth, we won’t actually know how the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X compare until we see them in action. Within days of each other, we’ve seen reports claiming that the PS5 is in big trouble and might have to be delayed, while others say that the PS5 is definitely the better console. We’re not putting much stock into anything that doesn’t come straight from Sony or Microsoft, and one area where we can compare the two consoles is their commitment to backwards compatibility.
Microsoft has made it abundantly clear that Xbox 360, Xbox One, and even original Xbox games will be playable on its next-gen console. On the other hand, all that Sony has confirmed is that about 100 of the most popular PS4 games will be playable on the PS5 at launch. It is a noticeable gap, and it only grows wider when you realize just how utterly painless it will be to play old Xbox One and Xbox 360 games on your Xbox Series X.

Dr. Fauci says we should never shake hands again, even when this pandemic is over
- Dr. Anthony Fauci, the Trump administration’s most public expert on the coronavirus pandemic, is strongly recommending that everyone avoid shaking hands ever again, even after a vaccine arrives for the virus and things start going back to normal.
- Dr. Fauci made that recommendation during an interview when asked about what behaviors might linger, even in a post-coronavirus world.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Everyone is eagerly trying to look ahead and imagine what the post-coronavirus quarantine future looks like once we get to whatever the other side of the current status quo is. Maybe imagining a little aggressively, since so many people, sadly, are still dying, and we still don’t have the testing and surveillance apparatus in place that we’ll need in order to start tentatively opening the US economy back up again.
The public face of the Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus crisis, however, has already offered at least one blunt suggestion we should try not to forget once we’re past this pandemic. And given that Dr. Anthony Fauci is the infectious diseases expert who’s one of the few trustworthy voices in the Trump administration on this, it’s something we should definitely not ignore. His recommendation: Absolutely no more handshakes, even after we’ve defeated this virus. “As a society, just forget about shaking hands,” Fauci said during a new television interview.

Scientists actually reversed stroke damage in rodent tests
- Doctors successfully repaired stroke-damaged rat brains using human skin cells that had been reprogrammed to act as nerve cells.
- The new cells made the correct connections in the brain after being transplanted, restoring movement and sensation.
- Further studies are needed to determine how safe and effective the procedure is before deciding to pursue testing in other animals and eventually humans.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Over the years, doctors and healthcare professionals have learned a lot about what increases the risk of a person having a stroke. Things like high blood pressure, smoking, and heart disease can all play a major role in whether or not a person will suffer a stroke during their lifetime, but treatment after a person has had a stroke often means a lengthy rehabilitation, and even then it’s no guarantee that the individual will make a full recovery.
In a perfect world, doctors would be able to actually repair the damage that a stroke causes to the brain, fixing the damage and returning the brains to their pre-stroke functionality. Now, researchers at Sweden’s Lund University believe they have taken one small step in that direction by repairing the brains of stroke-afflicted rats.

This is the coronavirus vaccine study that anti-vaxxers need to see
- A new study says there is a direct correlation between mandatory anti-tuberculosis vaccine campaigns and the COVID-19 fatality rate.
- People in countries that have mandatory BCG vaccination are less likely to contract the new coronavirus infection and less likely to die of COVID-19 complications.
- The 100-year-old vaccine is already in testing in Australia, as researchers believe the vaccine could give the immune system a boost against other pathogens, novel coronavirus included.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
More than 20 COVID-19 vaccine candidates are in development right now, and the World Health Organization (WHO) said it will work on an initiative to make the new drugs widely available once they’re approved. Some of these potential cures are already in Phase 1 of human trials, and some of them could be ready for emergency use as soon as this fall. But they may take up to 18 months to be ready for the general population.
Inoculating as many people as possible with a drug meant to provide immunity to a terrible illness may seem like a no-brainer. Still, there may be people out there who would oppose this life-saving treatment. Some anti-vaxxers have even claimed the pandemic wasn’t real in the past few weeks, but we have undoubtedly reached a point where nobody can deny the seriousness of the novel coronavirus. And the vaccine-hesitant out there should check out a brand new coronavirus study that shows how important vaccines can be.

‘Parasite’ and three other Bong Joon Ho films now streaming on Hulu
- Parasite, the Best Picture winner from the 2020 Academy Awards, is now streaming on Hulu.
- Hulu and independent film distributor Neon signed a multiyear output deal back in 2017.
- In addition to Parasite, three other movies directed by Bong Joon Ho were added to Hulu as well: Barking Dogs Never Bite, The Host, and Mother.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Every year, I tell myself I’m going to catch up on all the Academy Award-winning movies I missed the first time around, and every year, I fail to follow through with this plan. 2020 has been no different. Of the nine Best Picture nominees at the 2020 Oscars, I’ve only seen one, but it happened to be the one that took the trophy. I am, of course, talking about Parasite — the suspenseful, surprising film directed by Bong Joon Ho that took the world by storm.
If you were one of the many people who were confused that a relatively unknown South Korean director managed to beat the likes of Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, and Greta Gerwig, you have now been given the opportunity to clear that confusion up, as Parasite began streaming on Hulu this week. There are plenty of places to buy or rent a digital copy of Parasite, but Hulu is your only option if you want to stream the best movie of 2019.

Coronavirus won’t stop SpaceX from shooting dozens of new satellites into space
- SpaceX is planning a launch in its Starlink satellite program for April 16th, Spaceflight Now reports.
- A SpaceX Falcon 9 will send dozens of tiny Starlink satellites into Earth orbit where they will join hundreds of others that have already been placed there in past missions.
- Eventually, SpaceX wants thousands of the satellites to form a grid around Earth and provide high-speed data access to every corner of the globe, but the project will take years to complete.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The coronavirus pandemic has impacted just about every industry imaginable, and the business of commercial spaceflight is no different. Despite that, SpaceX is doing its best to keep on schedule, and that means ensuring that it slings as many of its astronomer-aggravating Starlink satellites into space as possible.
The company’s next Starlink launch is currently slated for April 16th at the earliest and will take place from the launch facility at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. As is typically the case with Starlink missions, we’re expecting SpaceX to release dozes of its pint-sized communications satellites simultaneously, and SpaceX will likely be live streaming the launch and deployment of its hardware.

Zoom asks Facebook’s former chief security officer to help fix its privacy issues
- Amid the coronavirus pandemic, millions of people have been forced to transition to working from home. Video conference software like Zoom has enabled that transition, and Zoom, specifically, has seen an explosion in its user base.
- Unfortunately, that’s also illuminated security and privacy issues. To help solve them, Zoom has asked former Facebook chief security officer Alex Stamos to help the company address these problems.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
This news is going to strike some of you as counterintuitive, particularly if you’ve soured on Facebook over the last year or so thanks to its litany of privacy and security woes. By now, most of you are probably aware that the video conferencing software Zoom has experienced a taste of that same backlash over the last couple of weeks, as its popularity skyrocketed thanks to millions of people stuck at home because of the coronavirus. Unfortunately, as the service experienced an astounding jump in users — from 10 million in December to 200 million in March — that growth has been accompanied by one controversy after another. Everything from strangers annoyingly “zoombombing” peoples’ video calls to the disclosure that email addresses and photos of some Zoom users had leaked, with additional PR nightmares including the fact that some call data had been sent through China for non-Chinese users, as well as the Zoom iOS app quietly sending analytics data to Facebook.
Now, Zoom has called in some help as it works through these and other security and privacy issues: That help is coming in the form of Facebook’s former chief security officer, Alex Stamos.

Panera is now selling grocery items to spare you from crowded stores
- The fast-casual chain Panera Bread has announced a new initiative involving the sale of in-demand grocery essentials through its restaurants, so that shoppers don’t have to brave grocery stores during the coronavirus pandemic to buy items like bread, milk, and produce.
- This could be a more convenient option for shoppers struggling to adjust to grocery store changes like reduced hours and the frenzy of trying to score hard-to-obtain items like milk and bread that shoppers have been hoarding since the start of the coronavirus outbreak.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Grocery stores around the country remain one of the few public places open during the coronavirus pandemic that’s brought the US economy to a screeching halt and forced dramatic shifts in how the stores do business in order to meet shoppers’ demands — as well as to keep them safe.
Retailers like Walmart and Kroger have trimmed their hours so that shoppers don’t have as much of an opportunity to congregate there. Both chains are also now limiting the number of people who can be inside a store at any one time. Meanwhile, the fast-casual restaurant chain Panera Bread announced a new offering on Wednesday that might provide a solution to grocery shoppers looking for a better and safer way to buy essentials: You can now do so from Panera, via its new Panera Grocery initiative.

CDC to ease back-to-work rules for people who self-isolate after coronavirus contact
- The CDC is expected to issue new back-to-work guidelines for essential personnel who may have been self-isolating at home after coming in contact with a coronavirus case.
- People might be able to return to work after 14 days of isolation, but they’ll have to wear masks and check their temperatures twice a day.
- The new rules will mimic the regulation for medical workers who’ve been exposed to COVID-19 patients without wearing protective equipment.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The best way to avoid the novel coronavirus is to stay at home for as long as possible. Wash your hands often, disinfect surfaces, and wear face masks of any kind when going out for supplies. If you think you’ve come in contact with COVID-19 patients, you should go into self-isolation for two weeks and keep an eye out for symptoms. This could impact your work, but it’s a recommendation that can save lives.
Social distancing will limit the spread of the virus and prevent the collapse of hospitals, but some people still have to go to work, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is about to loosen back-to-work guidelines for people who have been isolating themselves after being exposed to the virus.

SpaceX says farewell to the original Dragon
- SpaceX is officially retiring the first version of its Dragon cargo capsule after a successful return to Earth over the weekend.
- The current version of the spacecraft has made many trips to the International Space Station, hauling vital supplies and experiments for the crew.
- The new version of Dragon, called Dragon 2, will make its cargo-hauling debut in October 2020, assuming nothing interferes with the schedule.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
SpaceX’s Crew Dragon is about to make history — if it stays on schedule — by sending two NASA astronauts to the International Space Station for the first time in May. But long before the dream of a crewed mission to the ISS was in SpaceX’s planner, the cargo version of the Dragon capsule was already making regular rounds between Earth and the orbiting laboratory.
Now, having already proved its worth as a platform for delivering goods into space, the first version of the SpaceX Dragon cargo capsule is being officially retired from use. It’s a major milestone for SpaceX, and a sign of what’s to come. A new version of Dragon will soon become the premier vehicle for hauling supplies to the space station.
