The WHO wants coronavirus vaccines to be widely available ASAP
- The World Health Organization (WHO) says that coronavirus vaccine and cure research is advancing at “incredible speed.”
- The WHO will soon announce an initiative to ensure that COVID-19 vaccines will be widely available in the future.
- The WHO Director-General said that coronavirus vaccines and medicine should be deliverable to all affected countries.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The race for a COVID-19 vaccine is on, with multiple candidates having already reached human trials. Vaccines are the only treatment that could significantly reduce the spread of the novel coronavirus and eventually eradicate it. They should provide a boost to the immune system and kickstart a response that would prevent infection. Some of the scientists who are tracking the genetics of the SARS-CoV-2 think that a vaccine might have long-lasting effects too, as the virus isn’t showing significant mutations for the time being.
Even though they’re being fast-tracked to market, the vaccines won’t be ready for at least 12-18 months. Some think that near-final candidates might be ready as soon as this fall for emergency use, such as inoculating medical personnel and first responders, but that’s still months away from even being a possibility. The World Health Organization (WHO), said COVID-19 vaccine and treatment research has “accelerated at incredible speed.” But the WHO wants all countries to have access to vaccines when they’re ready, not just the richest ones.

Galaxy Z Flip with 5G support may be coming later this year
- Samsung may release a Galaxy Z Flip with 5G support in 2020.
- It’s not yet clear if the new Galaxy Z Flip will also support mmWave 5G.
- Foldable smartphones haven’t taken the world by storm, but Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip remains the best we’ve seen to date.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Samsung’s initial foray into the world of foldable smartphones was nothing short of an embarrassment. If you recall, the company in 2019 was forced to delay the Galaxy Fold launch after nearly every single unit provided to reviewers broke down during testing. Even when the Fold did arrive in stores, it seemed to present more usability issues than it solved.
Fast forward a few months and Samsung managed to really step things up with the Galaxy Z Flip. In stark contrast to the Galaxy Fold, the Galaxy Z Flip opens up vertically instead of horizontally and, as a result, provides users with a much more natural user experience.

Meet DualSense, the brand new controller for the PS5
- Sony unveiled the design of its new PS5 controller on Tuesday afternoon.
- The DualSense builds upon the design of the PS4’s DualShock 4, but has several notable changes that were necessary in order to incorporate some of the new features.
- Those features include haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a light bar you can actually see.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Less than a month after Sony walked us through the system architecture of the PlayStation 5, Senior Vice President of Platform Planning & Management Hideaki Nishino gave us our first look at the controller that will ship with the new console. The brand new DualSense wireless controller has a dramatically different design than that of the DualShock controllers that arrived alongside the PS2, PS3, and PS4. Nishino says that Sony is preparing to ship the DualSense out to developers, but wanted to give the PlayStation community a sneak peek first.

Nintendo reportedly boosting Switch production as consoles continue to sell out everywhere
- Nintendo Switch consoles have been increasingly hard to find in recent weeks, perhaps signaling that Nintendo is struggling to keep up with demand amid the coronavirus pandemic.
- A new report suggests that Nintendo is ramping up production in order to meet that demand.
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons might be at least partially responsible for the surge in interest.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Unless you’re an essential worker, the way that you can best serve your community and the rest of the planet is by staying inside, lowering your risk of becoming infected with the novel coronavirus or infecting someone else. As many of us have discovered, this is easier said than done, and now all of our houses and apartments are starting to feel like prisons. As a result, finding escapes inside those prisons has been vital, be it a bingeable TV show, a long book, or a video game. This might explain the sudden shortage of Nintendo Switch consoles.
If you’ve been on the hunt for a Switch in recent weeks, you might have noticed that stores are either starting to run low or don’t have any stock remaining. With everyone stuck inside, it’s no surprise that demand for gaming consoles has grown, and one report suggests Nintendo is ramping up production to meet that demand.

Use this locator to find a coronavirus test site near you
- For too long during the current coronavirus global pandemic, testing has remained something of a bottleneck. More testing still needs to be done to find and better track confirmed coronavirus cases.
- A new web tool launched on Tuesday that lets users see the nearest coronavirus test location nearby.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
A pair of startups from within the Georgetown University Venture Lab has launched a new web tool called the COVID-19 Testing Locator that lets users know how far away they are from testing locations and where they can find the closest site that will test them for the COVID-19 coronavirus.
Anyone in the US can access the COVID-19 Testing Locator for free starting today by visiting www.covid19testing.today. The locator’s features include showing users how far away they are from testing facilities, allowing users to view contact information for the facility if that data is available, and letting users filter locations based on preferences — such as whether it’s drive-thru only, focused only on children, or geared towards senior citizens.

Coronavirus expert explains why soap is better than hand sanitizer
- Coronavirus expert from Mayo Clinic explains why soap is such a powerful weapon against the spread of the virus.
- Health experts recommend washing your hands frequently and especially after coming into contact with anything outside of your home, such as at the grocery store or pharmacy.
- Hand sanitizer is a good option as well, but you have to be generous with the amount you use and ensure it reaches all areas of your hands.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Since the coronavirus pandemic began sweeping across the globe there’s one piece of advice that has been repeated more than any other: Wash your hands. It’s a simple recommendation that we’ve all heard since we were old enough to reach the sink, but why is it so incredibly important right now, in the face of a planet-wide virus crisis?
The simple answer is “because it works,” but for a longer and more detailed explanation of why soap is so efficient at fighting the novel coronavirus, we’ll let infectious disease expert Dr. Gregory Poland, director of the Mayo Clinic’s Vaccine Research Group, lay it all out.

Police kicked two black men out of Walmart for wearing face masks because of coronavirus
- “We’re all in this together” is a phrase you hear a lot during the current coronavirus pandemic — but it’s one that doesn’t necessarily account for racial disparities that are starting to emerge.
- In terms of the virus’s impact so far and the number of confirmed coronavirus deaths to-date, we’re starting to see in many cities where blacks are a small minority of the population, that they also comprise the vast majority of cases and deaths.
- Racial disparities can also be seen in other situations related to this disease, such as two men who were kicked out of a Walmart store for wearing surgical face masks.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
One of the phrases you’ve probably been hearing repeatedly since the onset of the coronavirus outbreak is how “we’re all in this together” and that the virus doesn’t respect borders, gender, class, or ethnicity as it silently seeks out victims to infect. This notion that we’re all dealing with the pandemic together, though, starts to fall apart once you take a closer look at who all is being affected because you’ll quickly be confronted with sobering realities — like the fact that around 70% of the people in Louisiana who’ve died from the coronavirus have been black, even though African-Americans only make up some 32% of the state’s population. Those numbers are similar in Chicago, where around 30% of the population is comprised of black residents, while 70% of the city’s coronavirus victims have been black.

Apple just released iOS 13.4.1 for the iPhone and iPadOS 13.4.1
- Apple recently released iOS 13.4.5 beta for developers, but it will be a while before that new version makes it to the general public.
- In the meantime, iOS 13.4.1 has been released for the iPhone and iPadOS 13.4.1 is now available for iPad models.

iOS 13.4.5 beta 1 was just released for the iPhone earlier this week along with iPadOS 13.4.5 beta 1 for the iPad. Apple still has plenty of testing left to do before it releases those updates to the public, but a new version was just released for everyone in the interim. iOS 13.4.1 is now available for all iPhone users with compatible devices, and iPadOS 13.4.1 is available for iPad models. The update includes a few bug fixes including one that prevented some devices from joining FaceTime calls with iOS and Mac devices running certain older versions of their respective operating systems.
