Every corner of the United States has been affected in some way by the novel coronavirus pandemic. Even if your neck of the woods hasn’t been hit particularly hard by COVID-19, the various lockdown and social distancing measures in place nationwide have no doubt changed your day-to-day life. But how will your state fare in the long term in our fight against the virus? A new research effort by the Kaiser Family Foundation attempts to answer that question.
Using a wealth of data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as well as the World Health Organization, the group analyzed the potential impact of the pandemic on a state level for all fifty US states. Using the CDC’s 2018 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System — a nationwide survey that monitors various health-related factors, the researchers have estimated which state populations are at the highest risk.

No one knows about this Amazon sale on Sony’s epic WH1000XM3 headphones
- Head over to Amazon right now and you’ll find a very solid discount on the class-leading Sony WH1000XM3 wireless noise cancelling headphones.
- This model retails for $350, but Amazon is selling them right now for $298. That’s close to the price we saw on Black Friday and it’s a terrific option for anyone trying to tune out their family for a bit while stuck in coronavirus quarantine.
- What most people don’t realize, and what you probably won’t even find if you search for Sony’s popular headphones on Amazon, is that there’s an even better deal on a WH1000XM3 bundle that gets you the same great headphones plus a 20,000 mAh portable charger for the exact same price.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Are the Sony WH1000XM3 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones worth $350? Well, it depends on who you ask. Ask any audiophile who has a pair and you’ll inevitably get an affirmative answer. When it comes to both sound quality and the caliber of onboard active noise cancelling technology, it doesn’t get any better than Sony’s ANC cans. Some people out there might argue that the Bose QuietComfort 35 II headphones have better sound quality, and it’s largely subjective so there’s no way to say for certain one way or the other. But in either case, Sony still has a huge lead when it comes to active noise cancellation technology because its tech is unbeatable.
If you’re in the market for a new pair of top-of-the-line ANC headphones, now is a good time to pull the trigger. Head over to Amazon and you’ll find that the Sony WH1000XM3 headphones are on sale right now for just $298. That’s a $52 discount and it comes pretty close to the sale price from Black Friday this past year. Before you jump on that deal though, there’s an even better deal that you should definitely check out.
Sony WH-1000XM3 Wireless Noise Canceling Over Ear Headphones with Voice Assistant, Black (WH-10…: $298.00
Lots of people don’t even know that Amazon offers a bundle that pairs Sony’s WH1000XM3 Headphones with a Phonesuit Energy Core Studio 20,000 mAh Battery Pack. As we mentioned, it’s not easy to find on the site unless you really know what you’re looking for. Fortunately for you, we know what we’re looking for.
There’s really no question that WH1000XM3 wireless headphones already have fantastic battery life on their own. They offer up to 30 hours of playback on a single charge, after all. That said, it’s inevitable that your headphones will run out of juice at inopportune times every once in a while, and you don’t want to go without them when you need them most. That’s why having a portable charger like this Energy Core Studio model from Phonesuit is so crucial. A quick charge from this puppy adds more than enough battery life to get you through your commute, and you can also use it to recharge your smartphone or anything else you might be carrying. If you’re going to pick up a pair of Sony’s ANC headphones on sale anyway, it would be crazy not to get the portable charger at no additional cost.

Scientists have found another potential coronavirus cure
- Researchers discovered an anti-parasitic drug can kill the novel coronavirus in 48 hours in lab tests.
- Ivermectin hasn’t been tested on COVID-19 patients, and human trials are mandatory to determine whether the drug is efficient and safe at fighting SARS-CoV-2 after infection.
- The drug joins the growing list of other medicines that are currently in testing around the world as scientists look to combat the novel coronavirus pandemic.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
We’re at the peak of the coronavirus health crisis in some countries, while others will see the worst of it in the weeks to come. That’s pretty much all we hear from the news, and the only thing we can do right now is wait for the lockdown measures to work. Social distancing should flatten the curve and give hospitals and governments some much-needed breathing room. But the fight against COVID-19 will be hardly over once the number of daily infections drops significantly. This is the sort of disease we’ll have to eradicate. Otherwise, it might become a seasonal illness like the flu, but far more contagious and deadly.
Attaining immunity can be done in two ways, and neither one is easy. A vaccine won’t be ready for another 12 to 18 months at least, and researchers are hopeful that it will all work. The virus, as it is now, mutates very little. But you’ll have to wait and hope you don’t get infected until then. The other way involves fighting the COVID-19 infection and hoping yours will be a mild case. While there are no specific cures to help boost the immune system in its battle with the pathogen, there are several promising treatments that are being tested in many hospitals dealing with COVID-19 patients. And researchers from Australia have just discovered a new potential medicine that can kill the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The drug is so good that it eliminates any traces of the virus in as little as two days, but that’s only in lab testing.

Apple Watch is on sale right now on Amazon starting at just $189
- Apple Watch isn’t just the best-selling smartwatch series on the market right now, it’s the best-selling watch series on the planet, with revenue that eclipses everything else out there despite its low price point compared to conventional brands.
- As affordable as they are compared to big brands like Rolex, Apple Watches often go on sale for even less money at retailers like Amazon.
- Right now, Amazon is offering up to $50 off the latest Apple Watch Series 5 models, and the still-available Apple Watch Series 3 starts at just $189 today.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Remember how crazy it was when Apple was the top smartphone vendor in the world for a period of time despite only selling one smartphone model? The iPhone was indeed an anomaly, and Apple continues to pull in more profit from iPhone sales than any other smartphone maker. What might be even more remarkable, however, is what Apple has done with the Apple Watch.
Apple entered the smartwatch space when it was still the butt of every joke. Smartwatches on the market were horrible devices that were ugly and clunky, and they didn’t work well at all. Needless to say, the Apple Watch was a breath of fresh air when it first debuted, and it quickly became one of the best-selling watches in the world. More recently, Apple announced that quarterly Apple Watch sales surpassed every conventional watch brand.
The most impressive part about Apple’s accomplishment is how affordable Apple Watch models are compared to watches from swiss watchmakers. And right now, you’ll pay even less than you would normally if you head over to Amazon. Apple Watch Series 5 and Series 3 models are on sale right now at great prices, with available discounts that reach as high as $50.
Starting with the Apple Watch Series 3, you’re already running out of time because several different options are sold out. Click around to see the different models that are still available, but prices right now start at just $189.
Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS, 38mm) – Space Gray Aluminium Case with Black Sport Band: $189.00
Moving onto the Apple Watch Series 5, it’s a big upgrade and you’ll find big discounts today at Amazon. The entry-level Apple Watch Series 5 with GPS is $50 off in a few different color and size options, dropping the entry price to just $349. Step up to the Apple Watch Series 5 (GPS + Cellular) and you’ll find many more discounted models available. Apple’s waterproof watch with a big new always-on display has so many features you’re going to love, and now is the perfect time to buy one and save some cash in the process.
Apple Watch Series 5 (GPS, 40mm) – Gold Aluminum Case with Pink Sport Band: $349.00
Apple Watch Series 5 (GPS + Cellular, 40mm) – Space Black Stainless Steel Case with Black Spo…: $649.00

New study says coronavirus can survive up to 7 days on a face mask
- A pair of new coronavirus studies looking at the virus’s ability to survive on different surfaces reveals that traces of SARS-CoV-2 were found on face masks for up to seven days after contamination.
- The COVID-19 virus can survive anywhere from a few hours to a few days on different surfaces in regular temperature and humidity conditions.
- Studies have shown that disinfectants, soap, as well as heat will help kill the virus.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
After some back and forth on the matter that was likely caused by the widespread shortage of medical masks, the CDC finally changed its mind on the use of face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic. The official advice is that you should use face protection that you can make yourself out of household items rather than hoarding surgical masks and N95 respirators. Those on the front lines fighting the novel coronavirus should have those first, including doctors, nurses, first responders, and anyone else dealing with patients on a regular basis. We already showed you a few tips for using coronavirus masks safely, and gave you a guide on how to make your own coronavirus face mask with easy-to-find materials — you don’t even have to sew.
More importantly, we told you that you shouldn’t let your guard down just because you’re protecting your nose and mouth with a piece of cloth or even an actual mask. First of all, that physical barrier doesn’t come with a 100% guarantee that you won’t get the virus. Secondly, you shouldn’t stop practicing social distancing and proper hygiene because you’ve got a mask on. To further reinforce that idea, we now have two different studies that looked at the survivability of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Interestingly, one of them found traces of the microorganism for up to seven days on a mask.

Someone messed up at Amazon, so Amazon Music Unlimited is still free for a limited time
- Last week, Amazon offered a special deal that was supposed to last for one day only on Thursday — but someone at Amazon made a mistake and forgot to end the 1-day sale.
- That means new subscribers still have the opportunity to get 3 months of Amazon Music Unlimited for free if they hurry up and take advantage of the deal before Amazon realizes the error and fixes it.
- This is the best deal that Amazon has ever had on Amazon Music Unlimited, beating last year’s big Black Friday sale that offered the same 3 months of unlimited music streaming for $0.99.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Amazon announced last month that many deliveries of nonessential products would be delayed until late-April at the soonest. It was a bummer for people who are relying on Amazon and other retailers to deliver so they don’t have to go out as often while self-quarantining, but no one could really fault Amazon’s logic. The retailer is trying to clear as much warehouse space as possible for essentials like medical supplies and hand sanitizers, and it’s delivering them only to hospitals and government-run facilities, which have a far more urgent need than individuals.
When the change went into effect a couple of weeks ago, we noticed two things right away. First, there were still plenty of “nonessential” goods that continued to ship out right away, and the same is true today. You can buy AirPods Pro at their all-time lowest price and have them in your hands later this week, for example, and there are plenty more deals that ship out soon. But the other thing we noticed was that Amazon was turning up the heat on its digital deals. Head over to Amazon’s deals page — which is now hidden, by the way — and you’ll find plenty of discounts on digital goods like Kindle books, video games, magazines, and more. But there’s one digital deal in particular that everyone should be checking out right now.
Do you pay for Spotify or Apple Music? Of course you do, since services like those are the most affordable way to listen to all the new and old music you love without stealing it. What you might not realize, however, is that there are other similar services out there so you have more than just two choices. That’s particularly relevant right now because someone at Amazon messed up and forgot to end a killer 1-day deal that ran last week.
On Thursday last week, Amazon offered new subscribers 3 full months of access to Amazon Music Unlimited totally free. Amazon Music Unlimited is a streaming music service just like Spotify or Apple Music that gives you unlimited access to more music than you could ever know what to do with, and it’s available on all platforms from computers and tablets to TVs and obviously mobile devices that run iOS or Android.
That deal was supposed to be available for one day only, but we noticed on Friday that it was still running. Well guess what: now it’s Monday and you can still take advantage of this awesome offer if you missed out last week. After your free trial is up, it’s only $7.99 a month while Spotify and Apple music each cost $10. There’s no telling when Amazon will finally pull the plug, so be sure to hurry if you don’t want to miss out.
Get 3 Months of Amazon Music Unlimited For Free: FREE
Here are the terms and conditions from the Amazon Music Unlimited page:
This 3-month free trial offer of a monthly Amazon Music Unlimited Individual Plan is a limited time offer and is available only to new subscribers to Amazon Music Unlimited. After the promotional trial, your subscription will automatically continue at the monthly price of $9.99 ($7.99 for Prime members) plus applicable tax until you cancel. This offer cannot be combined with any other offer. Digital content and services may only be available to customers located in the U.S. and are subject to the terms and conditions of Amazon.com Services LLC. Offer limited to one per customer and account. Amazon reserves the right to modify or cancel the offer at any time. Offer is non-transferable and may not be resold. If you violate any of these terms, the offer will be invalid.

Google Maps has another new feature to help during coronavirus lockdown
- Google Maps now highlights nearby restaurants that deliver food or offer takeout on the map.
- The feature should make it even easier to find local places that are still open for business during the novel coronavirus pandemic.
- Google Maps also lets users order food directly from inside the app as long as restaurants support the feature.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Practicing social distancing is something you should have been doing for several weeks now, to help your community “flatten the curve.” Staying away from others is the best weapon against the spread of the novel coronavirus. That means you have keep trips out of your house to a minimum and only reserve them for essential shopping runs and your pets. But even if you’re staying indoors most of the time, Google Maps is an app that can still come in handy right now. The app will tell you whether the businesses and stores around you are still open and advise you on schedule changes. Google Maps will also display COVID-19 warnings that tell you to call your doctor or hospital before going to the emergency room. The app lets you order food from restaurants that are still open for delivery at this time as well, and Google just updated the app to highlight all the places around you that offer deliveries or takeout.

Amazon’s popular Echo Show lineup is down to Black Friday’s prices
- Amazon has been launching new deals on Amazon devices each week despite its shift in focus away from shipping nonessential products.
- This week, a fantastic sale on Echo Show speakers is among the offers available on Amazon — and the available discounts will save you as much as $50 on your purchase.
- Echo Show devices combine Amazon’s hands-free Alexa speakers with a display so you can ask Alexa to show you things, and the most popular model is the compact Echo Show 5 that can fit just about anywhere and costs much less than the other models.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Amazon announced last month that it would be shifting much of its attention away from nonessential products so that it could focus mainly on shipping medical supplies and other must-have products to hospitals and state governments. When it made that announcement, a number of people panicked and we can definitely understand why. It’s not that the world might end if you can’t get your hands on a new pair of headphones right away, it’s that people across the country are being told not to leave the house unless they absolutely must. Many of us rely on Amazon for a huge portion of our shopping needs all the time, and that reliance only stands to grow now that we’re not supposed to go out unless we need to shop for essentials. Without being able to use Amazon to pick up nonessentials, however, some people will just go out to buy them instead.
Thankfully, there are actually still plenty of “nonessential” products that are shipping out right away at Amazon, so it turns out that much of the panic was unwarranted. In fact, there are even still plenty of deep discounts to enjoy on many of the site’s most popular products. One example is Apple’s AirPods Pro, which happen to be back on sale at Black Friday’s all-time low price. But Apple’s own devices have been getting deep discounts as well lately, and this week brings some great new deals on popular Echo Show speakers.
First up, the best-selling Echo Show 5 is down to an all-time low price of $59.99. It typically retails for $90 and it’s wonderfully compact so you can fit it just about anywhere.
Echo Show 5 – stay connected and in touch with Alexa – Charcoal: $59.99
The medium-size Echo Show 8 offers the same great functionality as the smaller version, but the screen is substantially larger so you can see more content from farther away. It normally costs $130 from Amazon, but today you can save $40 and pick one up for just $89.99.
Echo Show 8 – stay connected and in touch with Alexa – Charcoal: $89.99
Last but certainly not least, the flagship Echo Show with its great big 10.1-inch high-definition display is also on sale at its lowest price of 2020. You would normally have to pay $150 to get your hands on one, but today you’ll find it on sale for $99.99.
Echo Show (2nd Gen) – stay connected and in touch with Alexa – Charcoal: $179.99

Ditch Netflix and get a year of Disney+ for free
- Netflix is the streaming platform of choice for so many people across the United States, but the novel coronavirus pandemic has left millions of people without a job and struggling to pay bills.
- Cancelling Netflix for a few months until you’re able to start working again is a good way to save money, but you also still need ways to entertain yourself and your family.
- Many people don’t realize this, but Verizon Wireless customers with any one of eight different plans can get a year of Disney+ for free.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
If you’ve fallen on hard times because of the novel coronavirus pandemic, you’re not alone. Millions and millions of people across the country have found themselves without work due to the closure of nonessential businesses in many regions. Even workers at businesses that have been deemed essential are being laid off, in fact. Many restaurants are only allowed to do takeout, for example, so the majority of servers at these establishments have found themselves out of a job.
Times are tough, but this will eventually pass and we’ll all pick up the pieces together. In the meantime, people are trying to find ways to save money so they can continue to pay bills until they find work again. Last month, we reposted an earlier article where we rounded up 10 great services that stream movies and TV shows for free. Cancelling Netflix for a few months and streaming content with those services instead is a great way to save money while times are tough. Then when you go back to work, you can just reactivate your Netflix account and catch up on everything you missed, like the 53 new Netflix original movies and shows set for release in April.
Now, it’s time to add an eleventh streaming service to the list: Disney+. You might be thinking that Disney+ isn’t free, and that’s true for many people. If you’re a Verizon Wireless subscriber with any one of eight different plans, or if you plan to sign up for Fios anytime soon, you can get a full year of Disney+ for free. We told you all about how to set it up earlier this year, but now is the perfect time to go over it again.
