Amazon will reportedly delay its annual Prime Day event because of the coronavirus.
The two-day sales event typically takes place in July and will be pushed back to August at the absolute earliest.
Amazon will reportedly take a huge financial hit as a result.

Reuters is reporting that Amazon is delaying its annual Prime Day shopping event because of the coronavirus. As it stands now, Amazon is planning to hold its 48-hour shopping bonanza in August at the earliest. The date, however, is not set in stone and it’s entirely possible that it may be delayed even further pending the economic fallout from the coronavirus.

Delaying Prime Day is a pretty significant move for Amazon. The two-day shopping event typically takes the U.S. by storm and offers up truly tremendous deals to Prime subscribers. Last year, Amazon boasted that Prime Day 2019 was the “largest shopping event in Amazon history.”

New iPad Pro security feature cuts the mic when you close the case

Apple introduced a new security feature on the 2020 iPad Pro that disconnects the microphone at a hardware level when an MFi case compliant case is attached and closed.
This iPad Pro feature keeps microphone data from being collected by any software on the tablet.
The hardware disconnect was first introduced on MacBook models in 2018.

Two weeks ago, Apple revealed a brand new iPad Pro model via a press release on its website. The iPad’s unveiling likely would have been part of Apple’s spring event, had it happened, but the coronavirus pandemic made sure to put a stop to that. All in all, the 2020 iPad Pro isn’t a massive departure from its predecessor — internally, everything has been upgraded, but the design is mostly the same, save for refreshed camera array on the back.

But it turns out that not every feature of the new iPad was disclosed in the original press release. This week, 9to5Mac spotted an update to the Apple Platform Security guide which reveals that new iPads, including the latest model, have a hardware feature that ensures the microphone disconnects when the case is closed.

Marvel finally announced new release dates for all of its delayed Phase 4 movies

Disney was forced to delay Marvel’s Black Widow indefinitely when it became clear the coronavirus pandemic would keep movie theaters shut through at least May 1st.
Days after delaying Black Widow, Disney announced new release dates for all of the Phase 4 MCU movies, with Black Widow coming first on November 6th.
The Eternals, Doctor Strange 2, Thor 4, and more all received new release dates as well.

One of the unforeseen consequences of a global pandemic the likes of the novel coronavirus is that movie studios are forced to reschedule all of their releases on account of the fact that theaters all around the world are closed. Even the seemingly unstoppable force that is Disney has scrapped its plans and started over from scratch, which has resulted in some movies releasing digitally earlier than expected, and others being delayed for months.

Black Widow’s delay was perhaps the most notable, as it was going to serve as a bridge of sorts into Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But with the production of every show and movie being put on hold, it seemed inevitable that the entire MCU schedule would shift alongside Black Widow. On Friday, Disney confirmed that this would indeed be the case, as every upcoming Marvel movie has officially been pushed back.

A 100-year-old vaccine may be able to fight the coronavirus

A coronavirus vaccine could be ready for the public in about 18 months, and even then, it might only be available for specific categories of people who could benefit from it initially.
Doctors are also testing a 100-year-old vaccine that’s used to immunize against tuberculosis, among other things.
Scientists believe the BCG vaccine could kickstart the immune system and get it ready to fight pathogens like the novel coronavirus.

Dozens of COVID-19 vaccines are already in the works, with at least two of them having reached human testing. Vaccination is the only cure that has a chance of eradicating the novel coronavirus. We already know that survivors are immune to the virus, but we have no idea how long that immunity lasts. We also know that that SARS-CoV-2 isn’t mutating as fast as the flu, so a fast vaccine could have a prolonged effect. If there’s nobody left to spread the disease, the virus dies in humans as soon as the last patient is cured.

Researchers aren’t only studying new vaccines designed specifically to boost immunity against the virus. That’s the kind of laborious task that can take up to 18 months to yield results. And, even still, it might be even longer before the general population gets access to it. So researchers are also looking at existing treatments, including a 100-year-old vaccine that could kickstart the immune system and increase its ability to fight new infections, SARS-CoV-2 included.

Dr. Anthony Fauci is frustrated that stay-at-home orders haven’t been issued across every state in the US.
Fauci, one of the country’s top infectious disease experts and a member of the White House task force working on the coronavirus outbreak, says everyone should be staying home if at all possible.
Many states have refused to issue such mandates, and many of the ones that have are not enforcing them in any meaningful way.

Dr. Anthony Fauci — the one (and perhaps only) person we should all be listening to during most White House press briefings — thinks that the nation’s response to coronavirus has been inadequate, and that right now every single state should be issuing a shelter-in-place order. As The Hill reports, Fauci, the country’s preeminent pandemic expert, told CNN that he can’t fathom why such orders haven’t already been rolled out.

Many states across the country have already taken steps to push their residents to stay at home as much as possible. Some have issued “shelter-in-place” orders, mandating that people remain in their homes unless they are traveling for food or medicine, or have a job that is considered essential. Unfortunately, not all states are actually enforcing these new rules.

Game-changing 2-minute coronavirus test’s FDA approval was false

A rapid-result coronavirus antibody test that supposedly gained FDA approval had not actually been approved by the FDA at the time of the company’s announcement.
The company, Bodysphere, says the mixup was simple human error, though it insists that its product works as intended and it is now eagerly awaiting a real approval from the FDA.

The FDA shot down claims from a company that boasted about an FDA-approved blood test that could reveal a coronavirus infection as rapidly as two minutes after a blood draw. The company, BodySphere, stole headlines earlier this week when it claimed its ultra-fast test had passed the FDA’s inspection and been approved. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

The test, which the company boldly called “a game-changer” in the fight against coronavirus, didn’t actually gain FDA approval at all. Speaking with CNN, the FDA noted it had not approved any such test and that it wasn’t sure where the company had gotten its wires crossed.

Sony hosted a PS5 deep dive in March to discuss the system architecture of the next-gen console.
We learned about many of the most important specifications of the PS5, but we didn’t get to see the console in action or the actual hardware itself.
An industry source claims the reason Sony is taking so long to fully reveal the PS5 is that the hardware has a high failure rate and a release date delay is inevitable.

The longer Sony waits to fully unveil the PlayStation 5, the more concerned its fans are going to become. Obviously, Sony is under no obligation to show us what the PS5 looks like or how it works, but none of us expected to wake up on April 3rd knowing as little as we do about the next-gen console.

There are a number of possible explanations. The most plausible is that Sony decided months ago that the full reveal would be better suited for later in the year. There’s also a chance that the coronavirus pandemic forced Sony to adjust its rollout of information on the fly. But as weeks go by without any news from Sony (save for a repurposed GDC talk in March), some have started to wonder if the reason that we know so little about the PS5 is that development isn’t progressing as smoothly as expected. And now reports saying as much are popping up online.
