Is coronavirus more dangerous for smokers and vapers?
- Smoking has been proven to damage lungs and hinders lung function, making it harder to recover from a coronavirus infection that progresses to the point of pneumonia.
- Research on the impact of vaping on the lungs is less concrete, but anything that can potentially affect the health of the lungs is likely to put you at greater risk of severe complications from a COVID-19 infection.
- Individuals who smoke or have compromised lungs from other factors should consider themselves at a higher risk of severe complications.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The novel coronavirus may be more dangerous for individuals who smoke or vape, though research into the specific effects of the disease on individuals with these habits remains poor. Medical researchers have noted that the seriousness of a coronavirus infection can be partly determined based on whether or not the disease progresses past the initial cold- and flu-like symptoms to the point of pneumonia. In those cases, individuals with lung damage are more likely to need additional treatment.
Smoking damages the lungs. There’s really no debate to be had about that. As US News reports, researchers in China found that patients who tested positive for COVID-19 were 14 times as likely to develop pneumonia as a result of their infection than their non-smoking counterparts.

Do you have a Kallax bookshelf from Ikea in your home somewhere? If you’re unfamiliar with the name, it’s the bookshelf everyone pictures in their minds when they think of an Ikea bookshelf. The awesome, chunky design is instantly recognizable, as are the square shelves. You probably have some in your house — I feel like every home does — and if so, there’s a very cool news speaker that you definitely need to check out.
Those iconic square shelves seem to display books and home decor items perfectly, but there’s something else they can display perfectly: the Högtalare Dynamic Wireless Hi-Fi Speaker. This high-end wireless speaker was designed to fit in the exact space available on a single shelf, and it looks fantastic as you can see in the image at the top of this post.
The look and design are great, but what about the sound? We were sent a Högtalare speaker to test and we confirm that it doesn’t disappoint. Dual 1-inch dome tweeters are paired with a 6-inch subwoofer for full sound that is clear and rich. Bass is powerful but not overbearing, and highs are crisp but not too sharp. Expect a listening experience that is on par with a similarly-priced Sonos speaker. Praise doesn’t get much higher than that.

Doctors have discovered unusual new coronavirus symptoms
- Doctors observed that the onset of neurological symptoms in some patients may be a warning sign of a novel coronavirus infection.
- Some COVID-19 patients have displayed confusion and seizures that can be associated with inflammation of the brain.
- It’s unclear why some coronavirus patients exhibit neurological symptoms, and it’s not solely happening to elderly patients.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
COVID-19 is the kind of medical condition that requires a test to confirm the diagnoses, and that’s because the most common symptoms also appear with other viral infections like the flu or cold. Two types of tests can confirm the infection: one detects the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which is replicating in the body, and the other finds the antibodies that fight off the disease.
Being able to quickly diagnose COVID-19 clinically could be of massive help to physicians and patients since tests are still in such short supply. Doctors have started observing some early COVID-19 signs caused by the novel coronavirus. Some patients experience the sudden loss of smell and taste, and researchers already proved that the virus can interact with some of the cells in the olfactory tissue. Now, new reports from various countries indicate that some patients may be prone to multiple neurological signs upon being infected, although these symptoms can occur with other neurological diseases.

Amazon just unveiled the $35 Blink Mini security camera, and you can order right now
- Amazon on Thursday announced a brand new home security camera called the Blink Mini smart security camera.
- The new model complements the Blink XT and Blink XT2, which are Amazon’s wire-free, weatherproof cameras that last for up to two years before needing new batteries.
- The new Blink Mini camera costs just $34.99 and it will be released later this month, but it’s already available to pre-order on Amazon’s site.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Amazon might be shifting much of its attention and resources away from nonessential products right now, but it apparently still has time to launch and ship a new nonessential product of its own. The company on Thursday announced the brand new Blink Mini smart security camera, an indoor home security camera that complements other cameras in the Blink lineup, like the popular Blink XT2. The XT2 is a weatherproof indoor/outdoor camera that runs for up to 2 years before it needs new batteries, while the new Blink Mini model is only for indoor use. It’s also not battery-powered so it needs to be plugged in like a normal security camera.
The biggest selling feature for the new Blink Mini is likely the price — at just $34.99, it’s very affordable desipite packing all the same core features as more expensive options like the $200 Nest Cam. Amazon’s new Blink Mini also comes with something the Nest Cam doesn’t: free cloud storage through the end of 2020. The Blink Mini is available to pre-order right now on Amazon, and it starts shipping in less than two weeks on April 15th.
Introducing Blink Mini – Compact indoor plug-in smart security camera, 1080 HD video, motion…: $34.99
Here’s a summary of the key details from Amazon’s press release:
Amazon today announced the all-new Blink Mini, a compact, indoor, plug-in smart home security camera with 1080p HD resolution, motion detection and two-way audio. When paired with the Blink Home Monitor app, Blink Mini lets customers see a live view of their home, or hear and talk to people and pets in real-time. Customers can also save their video clips using their Blink cloud storage subscription plan or, coming later this year, use the new Blink Sync Module 2 for local video storage. Blink Mini is available for pre-order starting today in the US for $34.99 and Canada for $44.99 CAD and will begin shipping to customers in the coming weeks. Customers who purchase a Blink Mini also receive an included trial of the Blink cloud storage subscription plan with their purchase.
Blink Mini offers motion detection with customized detection zones so customers are only alerted to the movement that matters to them. Blink Mini can record 1080p HD video during the day, and supports infrared HD night vision for video capture in low light. Using the Blink Home Monitor app, customers can receive notifications on their smartphone when motion is detected, and use two-way audio to speak to people or pets in their home from anywhere. Blink Mini is also easy to setup – just plug it in, connect it to Wi-Fi, and add it to the Blink Home Monitor app. Customers can also pair Blink Mini with a supported Alexa-enabled device to view recorded videos, turn on live view, or arm and disarm the camera using just their voice.

The best and simplest explanation of why coronavirus is so dangerous
- When the novel coronavirus outbreak was first picking up pace in the US, countless misinformed people including the president of the United States likened it to the common flu.
- Not only is the comparison wrong, it’s actually quite dangerous and echoes of that early inaccuracy can still be heard today by people who downplay the severity of COVID-19.
- If there are still people in your life who compare the new coronavirus to the flu in an effort to downplay its severity, one simple video is all you need to share to explain exactly why COVID-19 is so much more dangerous.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Here in the United States, things are starting to get really bad. We now have the highest number of confirmed novel coronavirus cases in the world, with more than twice as many cases as the next closest country, Italy. The US also has the third-highest number of deaths, though China’s figures remain in question after it was reported that the US intelligence community has evidence that China has been fudging its numbers.
It was an inevitability that the US would quickly eclipse other countries when it comes to total coronavirus case count, and we’re still not testing a huge portion of people in hot zones who are exhibiting symptoms that aren’t severe. Inevitable, yes, but the number of Americans who were infected could have been dramatically lower if the White House had done its job. The administration was well aware of what was coming our way, but it chose to downplay the severity of the novel coronavirus pandemic in those crucial early weeks. Even as the rate of COVID-19 infections began to pick up, Trump was still telling the country that the severity of the outbreak was being exaggerated by his political opponents, and he repeated a number of lies and inaccuracies during that critical time. One of the pieces of misinformation he repeated several times is particularly dangerous, and the negative effects of that deception continue to ripple even to this day.

AirPods 2 are down to Amazon’s lowest price of all time
- Most deliveries of nonessential products at Amazon are being delayed until late April at the earliest, as Amazon prioritizes things like hand sanitizers and bleach cleaners for hospitals and other healthcare facilities.
- Some “nonessential” products are still being shipped out right away, however, and Apple’s best-selling AirPods modes are among them.
- AirPods 2 have been on sale with a $20 discount all week, but on Thursday Amazon gave them an extra $10 discount and dropped them back down to the lowest price of all time.

If ever there was a time to upgrade your music listening experience and get yourself a brand new pair of Apple AirPods 2, that time is right now. We’re all in need of a pick-me-up anywhere we can get it, as the novel coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc in regions all across the United States and around the world. We’re still likely months away from finding reliable and effective treatments, and a vaccine is at least a year away at this point if we’re lucky. That means the only way to slow the spread of COVID-19 and return to any semblance of normal life is to stay away from each other.
The most important thing you can do right now is to stay home. The only time you should ever leave your house is if you absolutely must, like to go pick up groceries or if your doctor instructs you over the phone to seek medical attention. When you do have to go out, practice social distancing and wash your hands immediately anytime you touch any surfaces.
At home, you’re likely looking for things to do to help pass the time. That means you’ll be streaming plenty of movies, listening to music, and playing audiobooks or podcasts. Instead of forcing the rest of your family to partake, do it all on a smartphone or tablet and listen through your brand new AirPods 2, which you just bought at the lowest price of all time. That’s right — they’re been on sale for $139 all week, but Amazon just dropped them back down to their lowest price ever.
Apple AirPods with Charging Case: $129.98
If you have wireless chargers all over your house for your iPhone or Android device, you can also save $30 on Apple’s AirPods 2 with Wireless Charging Case. And if you want the very best listening experience Apple offers — and if you want to be able to drown out your family members anytime they start to get on your nerves — you need Apple’s AirPods Pro with active noise cancelling. They’re in stock as well right now on Amazon, and they’re shipping out immediately.
Apple AirPods with Wireless Charging Case: $169.00
Apple AirPods Pro: $249.00

Amazon Music Unlimited is FREE for 3 months, today only
- Popular streaming music services like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music Unlimited are all pretty similar, giving you unlimited access to stream and download millions of songs from all your favorite artists.
- Since they’re all about the same, the only service you should be concerned with right now is Amazon Music Unlimted, which is completely free right now for new subscribers.
- Amazon is running an unprecedented one-day deal on Thursday that gives new subscribers unlimited access to the popular streaming music service for three months — and even after that, it’s still less expensive than Spotify and Apple Music.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Spotify? What’s Spotify? The only streaming music service you should be thinking about right now is Amazon Music Unlimited because Amazon is running a one-day deal on Thursday that is absolutely insane.
Just like Spotify and Apple Music, Amazon Music Unlimited — or AMU for short — is a streaming music service that is available on all platforms, from computers and tablets to TVs and of course mobile platforms including iOS and Android. On top of that, it has deep integration with Amazon’s various Alexa-enabled smart speakers and other Alexa devices. That means you can say something like “Alexa, play the new Weeknd album,” and Alexa will start streaming it right away.
Even if you don’t have Echo speakers, Amazon Music Unlimited is still a terrific option… especially today. On Thursday, for one day only, Amazon is offering new subscribers the best deal it has ever offered for its streaming music service. Sign up for Amazon Music Unlimited today and you’ll get 3 months of unlimited access for free. That’s right, free! Similar promotions in the past like the one Amazon offered on Black Friday cost $0.99 for 3 months of access, so this deal is unheard of.
Oh, and there’s an added bonus, by the way. After your free 3 months are up, you’ll pay $7.99 for the service if you continue to subscribe. That’s cheaper than Apple Music and cheaper than Spotify, and you get access to all the same songs with the same quality. It’s pretty much a no-brainer.
There’s one more reason to consider this deal. Millions of people across the country can’t work right now because of the novel coronavirus pandemic, and they’re looking for ways to cut their expenses. If you’re among them and you subscribe to Spotify or Apple Music, cancel your subscription and switch to Amazon Music Unlimited. Even if you end up missing your old service, you can save money for three months and then switch back once your free 3 months are over. By then you should be back to work.
Get 3 Months of Amazon Music Unlimited For Free: FREE
Here are the terms and conditions for this deal, from the Amazon Music Unlimited page:
This 3-month free trial offer of a monthly Amazon Music Unlimited Individual Plan is a limited time offer and is available only to new subscribers to Amazon Music Unlimited. After the promotional trial, your subscription will automatically continue at the monthly price of $9.99 ($7.99 for Prime members) plus applicable tax until you cancel. This offer cannot be combined with any other offer. Digital content and services may only be available to customers located in the U.S. and are subject to the terms and conditions of Amazon.com Services LLC. Offer limited to one per customer and account. Amazon reserves the right to modify or cancel the offer at any time. Offer is non-transferable and may not be resold. If you violate any of these terms, the offer will be invalid.

This week’s list of the 10 most binge-watched shows has a surprise
