NASA’s Perseverance rover now has 10.9 million names on it
- NASA just added over 10 million names to the Mars 2020 Perseverance rover.
- The names were collected as part of NASA’s “Send Your Name to Mars” campaign which asked the public to send in their names to be part of the mission.
- The names are etched into three small chips that are attached to the exterior of the rover.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
NASA is rapidly approaching the planned launch date of its Mars 2020 mission. It’s been a long time coming, and it’s one of the space agency’s most ambitious adventures to date. The shiny new Perseverance rover will play the starring role, exploring the planet and taking samples of the surface for study. As it’s done in the past, NASA offered the general public their own way to contribute by including their names on the rover itself.
The “Send Your Name to Mars” project asked science fans from all over the globe to submit their names. Those names were then etched into tiny chips that were just recently affixed to the rover. The three chips are seen in the image above, secured behind a transparent plate.

Leaked screenshots reveal what Apple’s new CarKey feature is going to look like
- A new iOS feature called CarKey will allow iPhone and Apple Watch owners to unlock and drive their cars by relying upon their devices as opposed to a physical key.
- Owners will be able to grant third-party individuals one-time keys that would enable them to unlock a car directly from their own device.
- Evidence of CarKey first surfaced in an iOS 13.4 beta, though Apple may wait to release the feature until it unveils iOS 14 later this year.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
When Apple released the first iOS 13.4 beta in early February, one of the more notable additions was a brand new CarKey API that makes it possible for Apple Watch and iPhone owners to start, lock, and unlock their vehicles directly from their devices.
Even cooler is that the API will allow device owners to share access with friends and family members via one-time keys. Imagine, for instance, the ability to remotely give a friend of yours the ability to unlock and drive your car with their own iPhone or Apple Watch.

Samsung may have accidentally leaked a new, all-screen phone
- Samsung released the Galaxy S20 series in March and is expected to launch the Galaxy Note 20 this summer.
- Leaks and rumors have suggested that the Galaxy Note 20 will feature a similar design to that of the Galaxy S20, but a new ad from Samsung shows off a phone with no notch or punch-hole.
- This Samsung mystery phone might be nothing, but it’s an intriguing concept nonetheless.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Providing Samsung sticks to the same release schedule for its flagship phone launches this year as it did in 2019, the Galaxy Note 20 should be officially confirmed in August. Of course, the new coronavirus pandemic may have an effect on that date, but based on multiple reports from other companies that were once concerned about their supply chains being disrupted, it seems like most notable 2020 hardware launches are still on track.
In fact, we might have gotten an early look at the Note 20 thanks to LetsGoDigital and YouTuber Concept Creator just days ago, as the two teamed up to put together renders that reflect what previous rumors and reports have suggested the phone might look like. As expected, it’s not much of a departure from the Galaxy S20, at least in terms of design, but Samsung might have leaked an even more exciting phone in an ad for an air conditioner, of all things.

Camera shootout pits the iPhone 11 Pro against the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Huawei’s P40 Pro
- While the iPhone has traditionally been the best smartphone camera on the market, competition has really picked up.
- A new photo shootout looks to see how the iPhone 11 Pro stacks up against the S20 Ultra, Huawei’s P30 Pro, and the recently unveiled P40 Pro.
- Samsung’s new Galaxy S20 Ultra may be the best smartphone camera currently available, but the iPhone 12 release later this year may change that.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
If we’re being honest, the difference in camera quality between the top smartphones on the market today is smaller than it’s ever been. Whether you’re partial to the iPhone or happen to be a devoted Samsung user, the reality is that you really can’t go wrong no matter what you’re preference happens to be.
Some people, however, demand the very best. And while not everyone can tell the difference between photos taken on various flagship smartphones, others definitely can. And if you happen to fall into the latter group, you’re definitely going to be interested in this exhaustive camera shootout from GSMArena which pits Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro against the Huawei P40 Pro, the Galaxy S20 Ultra, and the Huawei P30 Pro.

Sony promises PS5 release date won’t be delayed by coronavirus
- Sony’s PlayStation 5 is set to launch at some point over the 2020 holiday season.
- The coronavirus pandemic had some people concerned that the PS5 would be delayed, but Sony says that it doesn’t see any impact on the launch of the PS5 by the virus.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
No industry has been left untouched by the novel coronavirus pandemic, including the video game industry. Some studios have already announced that physical copies of their upcoming games might not be available on launch day, while others have warned that their games might be delayed altogether. Therefore, it’s no surprise that many gamers have been wondering whether or not Sony and Microsoft will be forced to delay their new consoles.
Earlier this week, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed that the supply chain for the company’s upcoming hardware, including the Xbox Series X, is “back on rails” as China and other Asian countries have started to regain control of the outbreak. We heard from a fairly tangential source last week that the PlayStation 5 is still on track for its holiday 2020 launch as well, but now that sentiment has been confirmed by Sony itself.

This coronavirus chat between Steph Curry and Dr. Anthony Fauci was surprisingly insightful
- The Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry interviewed Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, on Instagram for almost 30 minutes about the novel coronavirus outbreak that’s continuing to hammer the US.
- The resulting chat about the virus — which has resulted in more than half a million cases around the world, infecting even UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, we learned on Friday — was informative and full of insights that TV news tends to gloss over in favor of more sensational angles.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The push by public health officials to get their message out about the novel coronavirus outbreak is now turning to influencers and celebrities.
Almost 50,000 people swiped over to check out an Instagram live video chat Thursday between the Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry and Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The audience viewing the stream included everyone from members of the public to other celebs like singer Justin Bieber, the rapper Common, former President Barack Obama, and Curry’s former teammates like Andre Iguodala. And that was just the live version — an archived version of the chat on the NBA’s YouTube channel had picked up more than 51,000 views as of Friday morning, and Curry’s own YouTube channel has an archived version of the chat that’s been seen almost 200,000 times as of the time of this writing.

Anova’s smartphone-controlled sous vide is down to its best price of the year
- When it comes to cooking, there’s really nothing else out there that delivers the kind of delicious flavors you get when you use a sous vide cooker.
- Once a secret known only to professional chefs, using a sous vide cooker involves sealing food in airtight bags and submerging it in a water bath.
- The sous vide machine then applies low heat to food over a long period of time, slowly bringing it up to temperature while locking in every last bit of flavor.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, you’ve undoubtedly heard about sous vide cookers at some point. They used to exclusively be expensive commercial-grade machines used only in restaurants by professional chefs, but smart companies have taken the same concept and shrunken it down for home use. Now, there’s a deal on Amazon that you definitely shouldn’t pass up if you’re not already in on the action.
In a nutshell, a sous vide cooker is a device that cooks food at low heat over a very long period of time. Food gets sealed in an airtight plastic bag and then submerged in a water bath so that every inch of the food surface is in contact with the water on the other side of the plastic barrier. The sous vide then heats the water to the target temperature — for example, 140 to 145 degrees Fahrenheit for a steak — and keeps it there for hours until the food in the bag reaches the same temperature. All the flavor is locked in since it has nowhere to go, and the end result is the most delicious meal you’ve ever had.
Anova is one of the most popular companies out there when it comes to home sous vide cookers, and the company’s most popular model is discounted right now at Amazon. The Anova AN500 Sous Vide Precision Cooker typically sells for $199, but a $50 discount and an extra coupon you can clip on the Amazon page slash the price to just $134.10. That’s the lowest price of the year, and it’s definitely worth waiting a few weeks for. Trust us, you’re going to wonder how you ever cooked without it!

Zoom’s iPhone app sends your data to Facebook even if you don’t have an account
- Zoom’s video conferencing software has exploded in popularity as everyone is stuck inside while the coronavirus pandemic affects virtually every country on the planet.
- Zoom is a robust and easy-to-use piece of software, but some people have raised concerns about how it handles user privacy.
- In an analysis of Zoom’s iOS app, Motherboard found that the app was sending data to Facebook even if the user wasn’t logged in to Facebook or didn’t have a Facebook account.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
One of the many ways that people are coping with quarantine as the novel coronavirus pandemic sweeps across the world is by hanging out with friends virtually on apps like Google Hangouts and Zoom. This is a great way to stave off cabin fever while staying in touch with friends you might not see face-to-face for weeks or even months to come. But before you start downloading unfamiliar apps, it’s worth doing a little bit of research on them.
Google Hangouts and FaceTime had been popular video chatting solutions long before our reality was turned upside-down, but Zoom was a relatively niche product used by businesses for remote video conferencing. When thousands of employees were suddenly forced to work from home — and friends were forced to keep their distance from one another — usage of the app spiked, as did questions about the app’s privacy practices.

Future Apple Watch models may feature Touch ID and measure blood oxygen levels
- Apple is reportedly working on an Apple Watch with Touch ID support. The feature may not arrive this year, but may be included on the Apple Watch Series 7 in 2021.
- Building on the Apple Watch’s suite of medically-oriented features, the next-gen Apple Watch could very well include the ability to measure oxygen levels in the blood.
- The Apple Watch Series 6, which will likely arrive later this year, will likely include improved battery life, broader support for LTE and Wi-Fi 6, and enhanced Siri functionality.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
With so many rumors surrounding the iPhone 12 swirling about, it’s easy to forget that we might see some big changes to the Apple Watch this year. And with the Apple Watch Series 5 being something of an incremental upgrade at best, it stands to reason that the next-gen Apple Watch will include some more notable features and improvements.
In light of this, The Verifier — which has a decent record when it comes to Apple rumors — is out with a new report which claims that future Apple Watch models will incorporate a slew of intriguing improvements. The next-gen Apple Watch Series 6, for example, will reportedly include much-improved battery life along with broader support for LTE and Wi-Fi 6. The report adds that the next Apple Watch will also include enhanced Siri functionality, improved sleep monitoring, and perhaps, the ability to measure oxygen levels in the blood.

Doctors finally found an early warning sign of a coronavirus infection
- A loss of smell and taste has been noted in coronavirus patients in many areas, and New Jersey doctors are now saying many of their patients have experienced the same thing.
- Identifying all the symptoms of a coronavirus infection will help doctors and healthcare workers in the screening process.
- Some patients who reported a loss of smell or taste had no other symptoms but still tested positive for the virus.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories
As the novel coronavirus makes its way through just about every corner of the globe, identifying the early symptoms doctors and other healthcare workers can use to identify the infection is of huge importance. Lately, claims have begun to surface that those with a coronavirus infection may experience a loss of smell and taste. Now, new reports from doctors in New Jersey add even more evidence to support those claims.
As NJ.com reports, multiple physicians in the state have reported that patients claiming to have lost their taste and smell eventually tested positive for COVID-19. If these symptoms are indeed widespread in coronavirus patients, it could help hospitals and clinics to identify patients who likely have the infection and expedite testing, and ultimately care, for those individuals.
