Even in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic, smartphone leaks continue to pop up online every day as if nothing has changed. The latest leak comes from a familiar source, as Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) has teamed up with iGeeksBlog to share what are purported to be the first official press renders of the OnePlus 8 Pro.

The next flagship phone from OnePlus has been the subject of many leaks over the past few months, including one from Robert Downey Jr., who, in addition to playing Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, is also a brand ambassador for OnePlus and starred in this bizarre ad for the Chinese phone vendor. But the latest leak is the most comprehensive yet, giving us a look at the final design and specifications of the OnePlus 8 Pro.

Hospitals might have to stop trying to resuscitate coronavirus patients who code

  • Hospitals are already discussing new resuscitation protocols for critical COVID-19 patients who might experience cardiac arrest as their case worsens.
  • Some healthcare professionals are looking at universal do-not-resuscitate orders for coronavirus patients, which could prevent the infection of medical staff and other patients, as well as freeing up staff and conserving precious protective gear.
  • Performing CPR on a COVID-19 patient requires a team of doctors and nurses, as well as personal protection equipment, which could delay the response.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

We’re less than 10,000 patients away from an incredibly sad milestone for the novel coronavirus: 500,000 confirmed cases. By the time countries around the world finish reporting the stats for Thursday, we will have passed that number by several thousand people. More than 22,000 people died fighting the COVID-19 disease. A staggering 353,000 active cases still need medical attention. That means many of them will require hospitalization or regular checkups at home. Most people who get the new disease might not experience severe symptoms, and most people will recover and develop some immunity against the new virus. But it’s the elderly and people with other health problems who are most likely to experience life-threatening COVID-19 cases. They will need oxygen, ventilators, and an ICU bed. And some of them may go into cardiopulmonary arrest, which turns out to be a huge problem not just for the patient whose heart just stopped, but for the entire team that must perform CPR and for other patients.

Can food give you coronavirus? Here’s what you need to know

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The novel coronavirus can survive on plenty of surfaces but there’s no evidence it can infect people who ingest food that might contain SARS-CoV-2 droplets.
  • An extensive report explains why food, whether it’s cooked at home or delivered from a restaurant, can’t give you COVID-19.
  • Personal hygiene and social distancing is still advised, as the process of getting food includes interacting with at least one person.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The novel coronavirus is so dangerous because it can be easily transmitted from person to person. The fact that it can survive up to a few hours in the air and as long as three days on certain surfaces only further aides transmission. But, and this is crucial, the virus has to find a way to jump from those surfaces to your eyes, nose, or mouth, after which it will nest inside your throat on its way to its favorite place, the lungs. That’s where the real fun begins for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and it’s up to your immune system to fight it, whether it’s aided by drugs or not. As long as you stay away from other people, and wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds with plenty of soap, the virus has no chance of infecting you.

But what if those tiny droplets make it into the food that’s been prepared for you by someone else? What if a delivery person has COVID-19, but they just don’t know it? What if the virus somehow makes it into the food you make yourself at home? These are all valid questions that will surely drive up your blood pressure and paranoia. But the answer to all of them is that the chance of getting COVID-19 from food is incredibly small. In fact, a particular set of events has to occur in order to get the novel coronavirus from any sort of food that you’re about to eat, regardless of the source.

Uranus is leaking gas

  • NASA’s Voyager 2 probe flew through a blob of charged gas called a plasmoid decades ago, and scientists only just now realized it.
  • The blob could reveal secrets about the planet’s atmosphere loss, which may be related to its bizarre rotation and distinct wobble.
  • Future missions near Uranus, or even to the planet’s surface, could reveal even more about its history.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

It’s been several decades since NASA’s Voyager 2 spacecraft reached the chilly planet Uranus. The probe cruised past the frigid world at a distance of around 50,000 miles, sending back a wealth of data for scientists to dig through. Now, 34 years after it visited Uranus, the data that Voyager 2 sent back has revealed something entirely new.

As NASA reports in a new post, researchers recently discovered that Voyager 2 cruised through a blob of charged gas called a plasmoid as it passed the planet. The spacecraft’s journey through the plasmoid lasted only about a minute, but that was still long enough for scientists to spot the anomaly in the decades-old data.

Nurse warns of key coronavirus symptom she’s seen in all patients

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Red, puffy eyes may be a warning sign of coronavirus infection, according to a nurse who says she saw the symptom in every one of the patients she’s dealt with.
  • Coronavirus presents a variety of symptoms, though many of them are nonspecific and could be linked to any number of conditions, including the flu and allergies.
  • Red eyes have not been widely reported in coronavirus patients, but could prove to be another early indicator for doctors.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

A nurse in Kirkland, Washington who has been caring for coronavirus patients noticed something in all of them that hasn’t been widely reported as a common symptom. Chelsey Earnest of the Life Care Center told CNN that every patient she’s seen who tested positive for coronavirus had red eyes.

The phenomenon, which Earnest refers to as “allergy eyes,” became a reliable way for staff, including doctors, to identify patients who were in dire need of care. The Life Care Center in Kirkland has been devastated by the virus, and Earnest has seen more than her fair share of tragedy, with at least 37 deaths linked to the spread of the virus at the facility.

Amazon has one last round of Echo Show and Ring Doorbell deals before deliveries stop

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Amazon is winding down most deliveries of nonessential products to free up as much capacity as possible for important things like medical supplies.
  • Before most shipments are delayed until at least the end of April, Amazon has one last round of deals on Echo Show and Ring Video Doorbell bundles.
  • These two products make the perfect pair and you can save up to $90 by bundling them right now, or you can save $30 on the top-of-the-line Echo Show on its own.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Everyone’s priority right now should be staying inside at home as much as possible, social distancing when you do have to leave your home, and being extra conscious about not touching your face and washing your hands all the time. The novel coronavirus outbreak is the most serious pandemic we have faced in our lifetimes, and “help” in the form of a vaccine isn’t coming anytime soon. It’s our responsibility to slow the COVID-19 disease’s spread so that our hospitals don’t get overwhelmed and they can help people who need help. You might think you’re in perfect health and it won’t be a big deal if you get sick. You might even be correct since 80% of COVID-19 cases are mild. But you could still be asymptomatic for up to two weeks and who knows how many people you might infect over that period of time if you’re not self-quarantined. Stay. Home.

With all that in mind, dealing with some delays on products that we order from Amazon doesn’t really seem like such a big deal at all. The company announced last week that it would stop shipping most nonessential products until late April so it can focus on things like medical supplies. That said, there are still a few solid deals available that are shipping out right away, and we’re going to tell you about three of them right now.

The first two are both bundles, and they stand to save you up to $90 when you buy a popular Ring Video Doorbell Pro and bundle it with either an Echo Show 5 or the larger Echo Show 8. The Ring Video Doorbell Pro and Echo Show 5 bundle typically sells for $339, but you’ll be able to pick one up for just $259 right now, which basically means you’re getting an Echo Show 5 for $10. If you’d rather have an 8-inch display instead of the compact 5-inch model, the $379 Ring Video Doorbell Pro and Echo Show 8 bundle is on sale for $289.

Finally, there’s a great deal available if you want the top-of-the-line Amazon smart display and you don’t need a Ring Doorbell to go along with it. The 2nd-Generation Echo Show has a much better design than the original and it’s got a nice big 10.1-inch screen with HD resolution. You normally have to pay $230 to get your hands on one, but you can pick this hot smart display up right now for just $199.99.

Summer heat won’t magically stop the coronavirus outbreak

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The novel coronavirus outbreak won’t slow down during the summer, the European CDC warns, unless social distancing measures are kept in place to reduce transmission risks.
  • The agency’s warning comes with support in the form of empirical evidence from regions of the world where warmer climates haven’t been able to reduce the number of cases.
  • Regions including Australia and Singapore, and US states including Florida and California, have reported more than 10,000 cases between them, even though all of them have warmer climates.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

If you’re expecting the summer heatwave to magically kill the novel coronavirus and significantly reduce the threat, then you should abandon that train of thought for the time being. There’s no evidence that the COVID-19 outbreak will slow down just because the weather is about to change. If anything, there’s plenty of proof that people who live in warmer climates, including California, Florida, Singapore, Australia, Africa, the Middle East, are just as likely to be infected as anybody else. The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) warns officially that seasonality will not affect the pandemic, and strong social distancing measures still need to be implemented to reduce the rate of transmission.

  • Google’s Nest Thermostat models are widely believed to be the best smart thermostats on the market, and they’re on sale today at the lowest prices we’ve seen in a long time on Amazon.

When it comes to smart home products, there are some gadgets that are much smarter than others. Then at the top of the smart home pile, there are a handful of devices that you’d have to be crazy to pass on. A good smart thermostat is at the top of the list.

You might be wondering why a good smart thermostat is so essential and there are two different reasons. The first is that it’s good for the environment, which some people might care about more than others. By decreasing the amount of energy your home heating and cooling systems use, you’re burning through fewer resources. But the second reason is something everyone can get behind: A smart thermostat saves you money.

Devices like the Nest Thermostat E and Nest Learning Thermostat use smart features to decrease the amount of time your HVAC systems run. The less they run, the less you pay — it’s that simple. The prices of the thermostats themselves really don’t matter at all since they pay for themselves in savings. Then once they’ve paid for themselves, the rest of the money you’ll inevitably save goes straight into your pockets.

Of course, the sooner your smart thermostat pays for itself the sooner you start pocketing those savings, so now is a great time to buy one because Amazon is offering some fantastic deals. In fact, the Nest Thermostat E is on sale today for even less than it was on Black Friday! The Nest Learning Thermostat is on sale with a deep discount as well, but supply appears to be limited so you’ll need to buy one soon if you want to save as much as possible. It’s also worth noting that Amazon is shipping these smart thermostats out now, rather than at the end of April like most nonessential products. We’re not sure why Nest Thermostats make the cut, but we’re also not complaining!
