Notchless iPhone 12 spotted in iOS 14 code, questionable leak says
- The iPhone 12 series is widely expected to feature a new design, although the handsets will likely feature displays with notches at the top, housing Apple’s iconic Face ID camera system.
- A purported leak from iOS 14 seems to suggest an iPhone 12 version will come without a notch, however.
- The leaked illustration seems to indicate that Face ID components might be placed inside the top bezel, but that’s hardly likely to happen.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The iPhone X was the first iPhone to feature a new design since the iPhone 6. The new handset featured a gorgeous, almost perfect all-screen design, and sparked some immediate controversies. First of all, the Touch ID fingerprint sensor was gone for good. Secondly, the notch at the top looked hideous, ruining the phone’s symmetry. But as Apple detailed the Face ID functionality, it was clear the notch would be a necessary compromise on many iPhones to come. The tiny bezel at the top of all iPhones launched since late 2017 houses one of the most sophisticated pieces of technology Apple devices, the 3D face recognition camera. Few other handset vendors managed to replicate Face ID, and Google needed two years to get it on its Pixel phones, although Google’s Pixel 4 design is hardly beautiful.
The iPhone 12, which may be delayed a few months because of the worldwide coronavirus crisis, is supposed to feature several design changes, several reports have claimed so far. Apple will deviate slightly from the iPhone X design template used in the past couple of years, but the notch should be present on all iPhone 12 versions. A report now claims at least one iPhone 12 flavor might come without a notch, as the Face ID components could be placed inside the top bezel.

HBO’s most underrated show is thriving during the coronavirus lockdown
- In the midst of the coronavirus lockdown, viewership for HBO’s The Wire has tripled.
- The Wire is arguably HBO’s most underrated show of all time as it never received a mainstream following on par with shows like The Sopranos.
- The Wire can currently be viewed on HBO, along with Hulu and Amazon Prime Video.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
What would you say the best HBO show of all time is? The Sopranos, perhaps? Sex and the City, maybe? Both of the above titles would be solid choices, but the reality is that it’s essentially impossible to pick the best HBO show of all time because there are simply too many great options to choose from. From Game of Thrones and VEEP to True Blood and Curb Your Enthusiasm, HBO’s catalog of immersive hit shows is extensive.
There is, however, one incredible HBO program that has never gotten the love it deserves. I’m talking about a show that is as compelling as the titles above but never managed to become a mainstream hit. In effect, I’m talking about a show that can easily be categorized as the most underrated show to ever land on HBO. And in case you haven’t guessed what is by now, and in case the image above didn’t give it away, I’m talking about The Wire.

SpaceX parachute test didn’t go smoothly and may threaten NASA launch
- SpaceX attempted to test its Crew Dragon parachute system but the test was cut short after the dummy object with the parachutes installed on it became unstable during ascent.
- The helicopter crew hauling the object had to release it, destroying it in the process. The test was obviously not completed as intended.
- NASA and SpaceX will now have to decide how to proceed and possibly reschedule the test for a later date.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
An issue with a parachute during a test by SpaceX has thrown the timeline of the company’s first crewed mission into jeopardy. The test, which was designed to ensure the parachute system of the Crew Dragon spacecraft can bring the spacecraft to a safe, soft landing, ended earlier than expected when the helicopter crew conducting the test had to abort early.
The long race between SpaceX and Boeing to be the first company to deliver a crew-capable spacecraft to NASA appeared to be all but over after NASA announced a date for the first crewed mission for its Crew Dragon spacecraft. The mission, which will see a pair of NASA astronauts sent to the International Space Station, was originally slated for a launch as early as May.

Coronavirus, the flu, and car accidents: One of these things is not like the others
- The coronavirus may present flu-like symptoms, but it’s nothing like the flu when it comes to contagiousness and evolution.
- Comparing the COVID-19 death toll with the flu’s fatality rate or the number of car accident victims, as President Trump did as he argued that the economy should restart as soon as possible, is misleading.
- A continued exponential increase of COVID-19 cases could cripple any health care system and significantly raise the overall COVID-19 death toll.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Governments that have made the difficult decision to shut down their countries or parts of them also have to worry about the massive impact on the economy. The longer the health crisis lasts, the more dire the effects on the economy will be. Therefore, it’s no wonder that President Trump looking to open the economy as soon as possible, maybe by Easter, in defiance of warnings from public health officials.
In his remarks on Tuesday, he likened the novel coronavirus to the flu and car accidents as he argued the cure shouldn’t be worse than the disease. It’s important to note, however, that one is not like the others in terms of immediate danger. COVID-19 might mimic flu symptoms, but that’s where comparisons should end.

56 Android apps with malware were downloaded 1 million times before being discovered
- Android malware is arguably less prevalent than it was a few years ago, but it still remains a serious and all too common issue.
- Recently, 56 Android apps with malware were discovered on Google Play. Together, these apps were downloaded more than one million times.
- As Google slowly but surely looks to keep a closer eye on malicious apps, malware creators are becoming increasingly more sophisticated and creative when it comes to sneaking their apps onto the Play Store.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Google’s Play Store may not be the Wild West of malware it once was, but it sure does seem like we can’t go even a week or two without hearing about some dangerous piece of malware that managed to sneak in underneath Google’s radar. While Google has taken steps to make its Play Store a little bit more secure and reliable, many malicious apps, as a result, are becoming a lot more creative when it comes to avoiding detection.
Most recently, security researchers from Check Point Research discovered a new type of malware that was found to be lurking in 24 children’s games and 32 utility apps. Dubbed Tekya, the malware is essentially focused on committing mobile ad fraud and will generate fake clicks on a variety of seemingly genuine ads. And while malware infecting 56 apps may not seem like a lot at first glance, keep in mind that the 56 apps involved have already been downloaded more than one million times to date. Notably, some of the malicious apps managed to gain traction by simply copying the artwork from existing and already popular mobile apps.

How to watch free NFL, NBA, MLB, PGA, and NHL games right now
- The coronavirus pandemic has put all professional sports on pause for the time being.
- In order to help fans cope with the lack of games, the NFL, NBA, MLB, PGA, and NHL have all made their premium subscription services free for a limited time.
- You will need an account for most services, but you won’t have to put a credit card down.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
We all knew at the beginning of March that the novel coronavirus would reach the United States, but the moment that it became clear just how much the virus would affect daily life in this country was when the NBA suddenly suspended its season on the night of Wednesday, March 11th after Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive.
The drastic measures that have been introduced by the federal government and governors around the country in the days since that evening were going to be necessary one way or another, but it’s fitting that the turning point for the US during this pandemic was the infection of an NBA All-Star. And within days of his diagnosis, every organized sport had been suspended or canceled, from baseball to softball to golf to March Madness. But if you miss watching sports as much as I do, there’s a silver lining: Free access to premium subscription services.

‘Coronavirus party’ attendee in Kentucky now has the virus
- An individual that attended a “coronavirus party” in Kentucky has now tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
- The party was held as a way to push back against directives from health officials to engage in social distancing and remain home.
- It’s unclear how many people from the party may be infected.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
At a time when millions of people across the United States are taking drastic measures to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, holding a large gathering specifically because health officials advised against it is, well, idiotic. That didn’t stop a group of revelers in Kentucky from doing just that, and their so-called “coronavirus party” might further the national health crisis now that one of the attendees has tested positive for COVID-19.
The individual, who is reportedly in their 20s, was one of many who attended the themed party. The purpose of the party was to give a big middle finger to health experts and government officials who are urging everyone to avoid gatherings and group events. Well, it looks like that backfired.

This terrifying video shows how much damage coronavirus does to your lungs
- One of the things that makes the COVID-19 coronavirus so potentially deadly is the way it aggressively attacks an infected person’s lungs, leaving many such patients needing to be hooked up to a ventilator in order to be able to breath — and, ultimately, to save their life.
- A new video shows how much damage the virus can cause to an infected person’s lungs.
- According to Johns Hopkins University, there have been more than 62,000 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the US to-date. And almost 900 people have died.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
If you needed extra incentive to take heed of any order mandating a shelter-in-place in your city or state right now as a result of the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, perhaps a 360-degree video showing how much damage the virus can do to your lungs will make you understand.
After doctors at George Washington University Hospital encountered their first patient with the novel coronavirus earlier this month, they used VR cameras to map the patient’s lungs — with a resulting 360-degree video they’ve since posted to YouTube as an educational tool. In the video, which you can watch below, the camera pans in and around an infected patient’s lungs, with the normal tissue shown in blue and the parts damaged by the virus shown in yellow.
