Historic SpaceX launch postponed moments before liftoff due to bad weather
- NASA and SpaceX were scheduled to launch an historic mission to the International Space Station Wednesday, but it was unfortunately postponed with minutes to go before launch as a result of bad weather.
- A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket was set to carry SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule to the ISS from Kennedy Space Center.
- The next attempt at launching the SpaceX capsule could come as soon as this Saturday.
NASA and SpaceX got so close to making history today. The space agency’s Commercial Crew program sought to launch astronauts into space, and SpaceX’s Crew Dragon was moments away from fulfilling that promise with a launch from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida Wednesday afternoon that was, unfortunately, scrubbed as a result of bad weather only moments before liftoff.
This mission would have been historic for a couple of reasons. One is that it would have marked the first time a private company launched people into orbit, and this also would have been the first crew to launch from the US since the space shuttle program was ended in 2011. According to SpaceX, meanwhile, the next attempt at the Crew Dragon launch could come as soon as Saturday.

China’s top coronavirus expert blames Trump for massive US death toll
- The coronavirus’ toll on China was surpassed a while ago now by the number of infections and deaths in the US — a fact that the Chinese health expert who’s basically the equivalent of Dr. Fauci pointed out in a new interview contrasting both countries’ responses to the pandemic.
- Zhong Nanshan is a top infectious disease expert in China who said he’s “shocked” at the coronavirus death toll in the United States.
- He blamed part of the problem on President Trump, who he said dramatically underestimated the coronavirus. “He thought it was a big flu.”
As the war of words between the US and China continues to ratchet up thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, the health expert who’s basically the Dr. Fauci of China has decided to pour a little salt into the wound and used a new interview to express his shock at the US death toll from coronavirus. While, naturally, praising the response of China to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking with the South China Morning Post, infectious disease expert Zhong Nanshan also gently chided an overall failure in the US to listen to medical experts, as well as President Trump for having “underestimated” the virus that’s infected almost 1.7 million Americans and killed nearly 100,000 as of the time of this writing. That’s according to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University. “We need to find out more (about the coronavirus),” Nanshan said. “It is especially important for scientists to work together to investigate at a time like this, and I totally support that. But this has become very difficult now because (some politicians) have politicized the issues.

- A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will carry SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule to the ISS from Kennedy Space Center.
- The launch will be live-streamed online, and you can watch the pre-launch coverage and the launch itself right here.
NASA and SpaceX are about to make history. The space agency’s Commercial Crew program sought to launch astronauts into space, and SpaceX’s Crew Dragon is about to fulfill that promise for the first time. The launch, which will take place from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, is scheduled for 4:33 p.m. EDT, and it’s probably the biggest NASA event in recent memory.
As you’d expect from both NASA and SpaceX, the launch is being live-streamed so everyone can enjoy the historic moment from the comfort of their own couches. How did you ever watch TV without this brilliant $22 Fire TV Stick accessory?
- Even if you have a TV with built-in smart TV capabilities, most people still opt for a third-party streaming media player like Amazon’s Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Stick 4K, and other Fire TV devices.
- These devices offer much better user experiences than smart TVs and they also feature support for every streaming app you can imagine, whereas smart TV platforms typically don’t support all the apps you want.
- While there’s no question that Fire TV devices are terrific on their own, there’s an awesome accessory called the SofaBaton F2 that you’ll definitely want to check out because it adds key features that Amazon’s Alexa voice remote are currently missing.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Straight out of the box, Amazon’s various Fire TV devices like the Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Stick 4K, and Fire TV Cube offer one of the best streaming media player experiences you can get right now. Personally, I really prefer it to Roku devices. It’s not that Roku players are bad or anything. In fact, far from it — Roku is still the biggest streaming media player brand out there right now. It’s just that I am personally not a fan of the Roku user interface, and that’s why I choose Fire TV devices instead.
If you’re team Fire TV as well, you know how great the user experience is that Amazon has designed. The UI is great, the interface is nice and fast, and you can easily find an app for literally any streaming service you can possibly imagine. As a matter of fact, if you ask me, there’s really only one place where Fire TV devices like the Fire TV Stick are lacking: Amazon’s Alexa voice remote.
Amazon recently added some universal remote buttons to its remote that allow you to control the volume on your TV or soundbar and mute the sound. It’s a nice addition but truthfully, it’s not enough. That’s where my favorite new Fire TV accessory comes into play. It’s called the SofaBaton F2 Universal Remote Attachment for Amazon Fire TV Streaming Players, and it’s on sale right now on Amazon at a deep discount.
SofaBaton F2 Universal Remote Attachment for Amazon Fire TV Streaming Player with Power Volume…: $21.99
The SofaBaton F2 is basically a simple universal remote control that’s built to attach to Amazon’s remotes. It doesn’t make the remote any wider, just longer, and that’s key to a comfortable design that fits well in your hand. In addition to power, volume, and mute buttons like you would find on Amazon’s newer Alexa voice remote, you also get channel buttons, three configurable buttons that can do anything, and an input button so you can switch your TV’s input. That last one is crucial.
When I bought my SofaBaton F2 it was $40 on Amazon and it’s definitely worth every penny. Snag one today, however, and you’ll find a $16 discount plus an extra $2 coupon you can clip to drop the price to just $21.99 total. Trust me, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without one.

China is already changing its coronavirus origin story
- The coronavirus origin story just changed, as China confirmed the wet market in Wuhan wasn’t the source of COVID-19.
- The news comes from the country’s top epidemiologist expert and follows a separate denial from the Wuhan lab officials who reiterated the coronavirus had not escaped from the facility, and the pathogens researched at the institute do not resemble SARS-CoV-2.
- China hasn’t provided a new explanation, and the world may never identify COVID-19 Patient Zero.
Who was the first patient infected with the novel coronavirus? That’s something China failed has to address so far, and the lack of an answer is what helped fuel conspiracy theories that the virus had been engineered in a lab and somehow escaped. The official story used to be that animals from the Wuhan wet market helped pass COVID-19 to humans and that the virus originated in a bat. Scientists were able to prove beyond any doubt that the virus did indeed evolve naturally, and we’ve had this data for months now. A few weeks ago, top US intelligence officials confirmed they agree with the general scientific consensus that the virus couldn’t have been made by man. But that still left the possibility that the virus escaped a research facility in Wuhan city, where the virus could have been studied.
China has repeatedly denied such claims, reiterating just a few days ago that none of the bat viruses that Wuhan researchers study are related to SARS-CoV-2. But, interestingly enough, China seems ready to admit that the novel coronavirus didn’t originate from the Wuhan wet market either. Where was the first person infected? We might never truly know the deadly virus’s origin story.

Apple’s newest 10.2-inch iPad is only $279, but it’s almost sold out
- Apple’s 7th-generation iPad price is already quite fair, especially when you consider how expensive other iPad models are like the iPad Pro.
- While $329 is indeed a great price for the entry-level model, a great sale right now on Amazon slashes up to $50 off Apple’s 10.2-inch iPad.
- That means you can get a brand new iPad with 32GB of storage for just $279 — but only if you hurry, because two of the three color options are already sold out.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Amazon always seems to promote its own Fire tablet devices far more than any other tablets on its website. It’s easy to see why, of course, and there’s nothing wrong with Amazon promoting its own devices. All three Fire tablet models also happen to offer a tremendous value, with prices starting at just $49.99 even when they’re not on sale with any discounts. That small sum gets you a terrific Android-powered tablet with a great user interface and a proprietary app store that gives you access to all the apps you might want.
Fire tablets are indeed terrific. But even at those rock bottom prices, and even with all of Amazon’s promotion, Amazon’s tablets still aren’t the best-selling models out there. No, that honor goes to the 7th-generation iPad, the entry-level model of which costs nearly seven times as much as Amazon’s most affordable tablet at its full retail price of $329. Of course, you get superior build quality, better performance, and iOS when you buy the iPad, and that’s why so many people are happy to spend the extra cash. If you pick one up today, however, you’ll save a ton of money if you hurry.
New Apple iPad (10.2-Inch, Wi-Fi, 32GB) – Space Gray (Latest Model): $279.00
Most SKUs of Apple’s 7th-Generation iPad tablet have been out of stock at Amazon for so long because they’re among the best-selling products in Amazon’s electronics category. When they were in stock, a few different sizes and color options were available with slight discounts. Hurry over to Amazon right now, however, and you’ll find that the 10.2-inch iPad is somehow back in stock in Space Gray with 32GB. What’s even crazier, however, is the fact that it’s on sale with a nice big $50 discount.
That cuts your cost to just $279, and you know you’re getting a good deal anytime you can score an iPad for under $300. You can also pick up a 128GB iPad right now in Space Gray and you’ll save $30. Every other iPad model is sold out right now and these two options will likely sell out soon, so hurry or you’ll miss out.

You might’ve accidentally missed your $1,200 stimulus check – here’s what to do
- In recent days, some taxpayers’ coronavirus stimulus checks have started to be distributed not as paper checks to be mailed — but rather as prepaid debit cards, loaded with the appropriate stimulus funds.
- Some recipients, however, have accidentally thrown their stimulus check debit cards away, thinking they must be the result of a scam of some kind, according to local news accounts.
- Here’s what to do if you accidentally miss your stimulus funds.
In the weeks following Congress’ passage back in March of a $2.2 trillion coronavirus relief package, one that included billions of dollars for direct stimulus payments to Americans, everyone has been waiting for their stimulus check to come in one of two ways. Either electronically, in the form of a direct deposit, or as a paper check delivered with a person’s regular mail. As of earlier this month, though, we’ve now passed the deadline set by the IRS for it to receive everyone’s bank details if they wanted a direct deposit, which means that going forward the IRS and the US Treasury Dept. will finish up depositing everyone’s stimulus checks electronically while also continuing to send out waves of checks in the mail.
In recent days, meanwhile, it was also announced that some taxpayers will get their money in an altogether different format — as a prepaid debit card. You can also use a web-based feature from the Post Office to track your money, which is probably a good idea to do since some people apparently haven’t realized their stimulus payment could be coming as a debit card and have been accidentally — are you ready for this? — throwing them away.
