There are thousands of people all over the world fighting for their lives in hospital beds right now after being infected with the new coronavirus, but for a vast majority of us, the most difficult challenge we’ll face in the coming weeks and months is staying away from our friends and family members to stop the spread of COVID-19. “Social distancing” and “self-isolation” probably weren’t terms you ever expected to apply to your daily life, but that’s what this pandemic calls for. And who better to help us through an extended period of isolation than an astronaut.

Over the weekend, Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield took to YouTube to offer up some advice on how to cope with self-isolation, which, having spent nearly five consecutive months on the International Space Station, he might be as qualified to give as anyone you will ever meet. Plus, he’s very succinct about it.

  • Exercising while quarantined during the coronavirus outbreak is tough, but people are coming up with interesting ways to stay in shape.
  • One man in France ran an entire 26.2 mile marathon on his balcony.
  • It took him nearly 7 hours to complete the marathon on his 23-foot balcony.

With the coronavirus forcing millions of people to stay at home, it’s incredibly easy, if not downright tempting, to revert back to unhealthy lifestyle choices. Especially if you live in a cold area, you can’t really be blamed for watching TV all day and eating a variety of unhealthy foods to help pass the time.

Some people, however, have come up with enterprising ways to remain healthy during this unprecedented worldwide lockdown. Over the past few days alone, I’ve seen push-up challenges sweep across Instagram, along with novel strength training exercises you can do from the comfort of your own living room.

Coronavirus will delay some NASA projects, agency announces

  • Coronavirus will likely delay several NASA projects, with the Mars 2020 still on schedule but facing the possibility of a significant delay.
  • The James Webb Space Telescope will almost certainly be pushed back even further than it already was, and NASA’s Artemis missions could see delays and perhaps even push the return of humans to the Moon past 2024.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

NASA’s many projects and programs require the work of countless staff members toiling away at a variety of facilities across the United States. It didn’t take long before the coronavirus pandemic began to affect the space agency, with a small number of staff members falling ill with the COVID-19 disease and prompting the shutdown of various locations.

Now, with the entire agency under a work-from-home order, and with only mission-critical staff being allowed to attend work, NASA is issuing a forecast that reveals how the pandemic will affect a number of current initiatives, including the Mars 2020 rover mission and the James Webb Space Telescope.

The coronavirus might delay your non-essential Amazon order for a month or more

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The coronavirus impact continues to manifest itself across the country, with seismic changes being felt across industries that range from hospitality to restaurants and retail.
  • Amazon is now delaying the shipment of customer orders deemed non-essential for as long as a month from now (until April 21) as it works to get out as many essential goods as possible in light of the continued spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

I’m a huge fan of The Beatles, whose final album Abbey Road got a lavish 50th-anniversary reissue back in the fall. As an experiment, I headed over to Amazon this morning to order the vinyl version of the album — whereupon I was met with a surprise uncharacteristic of Amazon:

I’m a Prime member, and even though the benefits of which include free one- and two-day deliveries, Amazon projects my order won’t arrive until April 21. Now, I don’t really want that purchase (I already own multiple copies of the album, naturally). It was, instead, a test of something that people have started to report widely about Amazon as the coronavirus crisis grinds on: The giant Internet retailer is purposely implementing some of (if not the) biggest customer order fulfillment delays in the company’s history.

Leaked iOS 14 feature will help you keep track of your kid

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • iOS 14 will be the star of the show at WWDC 2020 this summer, regardless of how Apple chooses to host the event in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
  • iOS 14 features, however, are leaking regularly, thanks to an early build of the OS update.
  • A new finding reveals that iPhone users will be able to use the Find My app to track the locations of loved ones better than ever thanks to smarter triggers.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

WWDC 2020 is set to take place online in June due to the coronavirus pandemic — that is, if Apple doesn’t cancel the event entirely, as Google was forced to do a few days ago with I/O. But WWDC is a lot more important for Apple than I/O is for Google. WWDC is where Apple announces updates for its various operating systems, with iOS being the star of the show. At every WWDC, Apple showcases all of the new iOS features that it can reveal without spoiling the upcoming iPhone, and then releases the first iOS beta.

On the other hand, Apple could very well announce everything online this year without an actual keynote to further reduce any in-person activities that might increase the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Whatever the case, the iOS 14 beta will likely drop on time this summer. While we wait, we have another exciting iOS 14 leak which reveals a brand new location feature that will help you keep track of your children more effectively than before.

With nothing else to do because of the coronavirus, this sportscaster just narrates real life

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The coronavirus impact continues to be felt far and wide, as the COVID-19 virus brings industries from retail to some parts of journalism, even, grinding to a halt.
  • Regarding the latter, sports journalists don’t exactly have any games to cover right now at this time of social distancing. Which gave a rugby commentator from London the idea to just humorously start narrating real life he sees around him.
  • It’s a rare bit of positivity amid the coronavirus that’s turned into a global pandemic and as of Monday, March 23, has resulted in more than 378,000 cases around the world and more than 16,000 deaths.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The narrator spits out his commentary in a rapid-fire rat-a-tat, taking audiences along as a race unfolds in front of him. The intensity of his narration is matched only by the speed of the pursuit.

The pursuer in question — one dog. Chasing another. In the park.

The narration is courtesy of Nick Heath, a rugby commentator from London who’s done his part to answer the question of just what will become of all the sports journalists around the world who don’t exactly have any, well, sports to cover right now anymore as a result of the coronavirus. Answer? Well, you could always do like Heath does and just … narrate real life.

Apple’s AirPower is reportedly coming back from the dead

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Apple’s new releases for the rest of 2020 include new iPhones and the launch of a new generation of Apple’s mobile operating software, iOS 14.
  • Meanwhile, another rumor has surfaced that speculates an Apple product we thought was dead — the AirPower wireless charging mat — may actually be back on, after all.
  • Leaker Jon Prosser has tweeted that Apple is working on a new version of the mat internally, though it’s still not clear at this point if it will get an official release (or even carry the AirPower name).
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Almost a year to the day after Apple confirmed that its AirPower wireless charging mat project is officially dead, following a number of technical hurdles the company grappled with that ultimately proved insurmountable, leaker and YouTuber Jon Prosser claims that the project appears to be back on track internally.

“AirPower isn’t dead” he reported in a tweet over the weekend, adding that prototyping is underway now and that while there’s no guarantee Apple will succeed this time and actually release it, the company’s engineers “haven’t given up yet and they’re trying to re-engineer the coils to displace heat more effectively.”

Scientists are testing a modified measles vaccine against coronavirus

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • A coronavirus vaccine is in development at the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Vaccine Research.
  • The COVID-19 vaccine is based on an existing measles vaccine that has been modified using genetic material from the novel coronavirus.
  • Animal trials of the experimental vaccine will first be needed before human trials can be considered. Even if the trials are successful, we could be 18 months away from seeing a coronavirus vaccine become widely available.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Scientists from the University of Pittsburgh’s Center for Vaccine Research are testing out an experimental new vaccine developed using an existing measles vaccine. As KDKA reports, the researchers have genetically modified a measles vaccine using the novel coronavirus, attaching the new genetic material to the vaccine in the hopes that it will prevent the virus from taking root inside a host.

At present, there is no publicly available vaccine to protect against COVID-19, and while a number of research efforts are underway, it will likely still be up to 18 months before we can vaccinate against the virus.

Marvel’s Phase 4 production might be shut down indefinitely

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • A Marvel insider claimed that three MCU Phase 4 TV shows that were in development for Disney+ will not resume work in the coming weeks due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
  • He suggested that other Phase 4 productions, including some of next year’s movies and TV series may be impacted by the delay.
  • The report was later removed, but the insider defended the accuracy of the leaked email on Twitter.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

We would have been just about five weeks away from Black Widow, but its May 1st premiere isn’t happening because of the novel coronavirus pandemic. Disney delayed the release, but it’s too early to say whether the blockbuster will debut on Disney+ rather than in cinemas. The longer the quarantine measures take, the more likely it’ll be for Disney to reconsider the Black Widow launch.

Some say the film’s delay won’t ruin the MCU Phase 4 timeline, and that may very well be the case. But the COVID-19 outbreak is a major problem for Marvel’s Phase 4, not just Black Widow. Several other TV shows and movies are in various stages of production, and work has been halted on most of them. And now an insider who has been reporting on Marvel’s latest Phase 4 developments over the past few months said in a new blog post that MCU Phase 4 production is shut down indefinitely. Then he took down the post.

Amid coronavirus fears, Tesla will close its factory today

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • In light of the coronavirus, Tesla will shut down production at its Fremont plant in California at the close of business on Monday.
  • Tesla’s plant was deemed a non-essential business so it can only in “minimum basic operations.”
  • Tesla will reportedly use the forced shut down to make factory upgrades.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

With the entire state of California still on lockdown because of the coronavirus, only essential operations are allowed to remain functional. As such, the only places of business that are allowed to remain open in the state include grocery stores, banks, gas stations, pharmacies, and laundromats. For a while, though, it seemed as if Tesla would be able to keep production at its Fremont plant in California running at full throttle, in spite of the order.

Tesla’s brazenness in this regard probably shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given some of Elon Musk’s recent statements regarding the virus. Recall, the Tesla CEO a few weeks ago called the coronavirus panic “dumb,” and subsequently said that “the harm from the coronavirus panic far exceeds that of the virus itself.”
