This scary website estimates when the coronavirus will overwhelm your state’s hospitals
- The latest coronavirus update from a growing number of state health officials is that hospital systems in some of the largest cities in the US, particularly in New York, are reaching a tipping point when it comes to the number of cases related to the virus that they can handle.
- A new project called COVID Act Now includes a website tool that will allow you to project out when your state’s hospital system will be overwhelmed depending on how aggressively your state moves to limit public gatherings and contact.

“This week, it’s gonna get bad.”
Those were the chilling words US Surgeon General Jerome Adams stressed Monday morning during an appearance on NBC’s The Today Show which brought somber new context to the consequences of the deadly coronavirus that’s sickened 35,000 people around the country and killed almost 400.
It was also a reference to the fact that hospital systems in some of the nation’s largest cities like New York City, now the epicenter of the crisis in the US, are nearing a tipping point and close to being overwhelmed by new cases. And it’s with that in mind that a team of data scientists, engineers, and other experts has banded together to create a website called COVID Act Now that estimates when the coronavirus will overwhelm your state’s hospitals — with the estimates showing the effect of no official action, moderate shut-downs of public activity, and more stringent actions to combat the virus.

iPhone sales no longer limited to two per customer
- In response to the coronavirus, and amid concerns about the supply chain, Apple last week implemented a rule preventing people from purchasing more than two iPhone models at a time. It was the first time Apple implemented such a rule in nearly 12 years.
- Quietly, Apple removed its two-order limit this week.
- Despite coronavirus concerns, there’s still a chance that Apple’s iPhone 12 will be released on schedule this coming September. In a worst-case scenario, the iPhone 12 may not arrive in stores until sometime in November.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
With the coronavirus pandemic still in full swing, Apple last week quietly introduced a new rule precluding people from purchasing more than two iPhones at a time. Notably, this marked the first time Apple put a volume limit on iPhone purchases since the original iPhone hit store shelves back in June of 2007.
Now comes word via Reuters that Apple has since dropped its limit on iPhone purchases. Incidentally, Apple didn’t provide a reason for the initial limit or a reason why it opted to lift the limit just a few days later. Regardless, folks looking to stock up on iPhones can now purchase more than 10 at a time if they so choose.

The early coronavirus infection warning sign you should look out for
- Coronavirus infection may lead to loss of smell or taste shortly after a person is infected, according to doctors.
- Differentiating early symptoms of COVID-19 from those of the flu or other common respiratory illnesses is an important tool for doctors to help identify the most likely cases of coronavirus infection.
- It’s unclear exactly why the virus produces these early symptoms, but they could prove to be useful in early screening of possible coronavirus cases.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Symptoms of COVID-19 infection can be mild and nonspecific, including things like sore throat, dry cough, and shortness of breath. These are symptoms that can come with many different types of respiratory illnesses and are not necessarily indicators of a specific type of infection. However, new reports from doctors across the United States reveal a somewhat unique symptom that appears to be popping up with increasing regularity in confirmed coronavirus cases: A loss of smell.
Anosmia, which is the technical term for a loss of the sense of smell, is being reported in many patients who ultimately test positive for COVID-19 later on. To a lesser extent, changes to the sense of taste have also been reported in coronavirus patients.

Showtime and Epix are now free for Spectrum TV subscribers
- The coronavirus has left millions of Americans stranded at home.
- As a result, Showtime and Epix programming are now free for Spectrum TV subscribers.
- Showtime and Epix will remain free and accessible from today until April 12.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The coronavirus has completely turned life in the United States upside down. School years have been suspended, large cities like Los Angeles and Chicago are still in full-on lockdown mode, and typically bustling places like Times Square in New York City remain hauntingly empty.
With millions of people now confined to their homes for what could very well be weeks on end, it’s only natural for boredom to eventually sink in. The good news, though, is that we live in a highly connected world and we now have access to more media content than ever before. And some media entities, in an effort to make the quarantine experience that much easier, have started making premium media content available for free.

Next-gen Apple TV with more storage and new features may be in the works
- Apple may announce a new Apple TV with more storage and a faster processor later this year. Apple TV was last updated more than two years ago.
- tvOS will reportedly include a new Kids Mode feature that will allow parents to restrict access to certain programs and specific apps.
- Apple will likely introduce tvOS at WWDC this year, an event which is now an online-only event due to the coronavirus.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
According to a new post from Hebrew-language site The Verifier, Apple is planning to add some new Apple TV features to tvOS in the near future. Like any Apple rumor, you’ll want to take this report with a grain of salt, though it’s worth noting that the site has previously provided accurate information about upcoming iOS features.
That disclaimer aside, the site claims that the next tvOS release will allow Apple TV owners to create a dedicate Kids Mode which will naturally come with restrictions as to what type of content can be selected and viewed. Parents will also be able to restrict access to specified programs. Additionally, entire apps can be blocked. So, for example, parents can prevent their kids from even opening up apps like YouTube or HBO in the first place, if they so choose.

- As the novel coronavirus pandemic rages on, Verizon announced a plan to give subscribers 15GB of additional data for free.
- The free 15GB allotment goes into effect today and will end on April 30.
- Verizon also said that its waiving overage charges and will not terminate individuals for lack of payment.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
With the coronavirus forcing millions of Americans into lockdown mode, the last thing anyone wants to worry about is how close they are to exceeding their allotted mobile data for the month. This is a particularly pressing issue given that mobile data usage is likely at an all-time high these days as the number of quarantined Americans mushrooms with each passing week.
The good news, though, is that Verizon today announced a few initiatives designed to alleviate that worry. In a press release published a short while ago, Verizon said that its waiving overage charges for residential and small business wireless customers whose economic situation has been adversely impacted by the coronavirus.

10 movies and shows to watch on Netflix before they leave in April
- Netflix is losing 42 movies and shows from its streaming service in April 2020.
- The Shawshank Redemption, starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, is the biggest loss in April.
- Some of the other departing highlights include GoodFellas, Rosemary’s Baby, and Blade Runner.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
With social distancing now in full effect and my personal quarantine in full swing, I’ve been streaming more TV shows and movies over the last two weeks than I had all year. Shows that I once might have scrolled past are now suddenly looking far more interesting than they once did, as I’m becoming less picky the longer I’m stuck inside. I imagine that many of you are feeling the same way, which is why it’s hard to believe Netflix is actually going to take content away from us throughout the next month (as it always does, since that’s how licensing works).
The good news is that, unlike in March, the TV shows and movies being removed in April aren’t all that enticing. Sure, losing The Shawshank Redemption hurts, but nothing else on the list we’ve put together will have you rushing to your TV. That said, this is your last chance to stream them for the foreseeable future.

Siri now lets iPhone users ask questions about coronavirus symptoms
- Apple updates Siri so that it can help diagnose people exhibiting coronavirus symptoms.
- Siri’s answers come from the US Public Health Service and the CDC.
- Apple is also donating millions of masks to healthcare providers to help them treat the coronavirus pandemic safely and more effectively.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
With so much misinformation about the coronavirus swirling about, Apple recently updated Siri to better help inform users who think they might be exhibiting coronavirus symptoms. And while this might seem pointless given the plethora of information available via a quick Google search, you’d be surprised at some of the conspiracy theories, fake cures, and downright misleading information being passed around online and presented as factual.
In light of that, iPhone users can now ask, “Hey Siri, do I have the coronavirus?” whereupon they’ll be prompted to answer a series of yes or no questions to better “help you understand your situation.” Apple makes a point of noting that the answers it provides come from the US Public Health Service in concert with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
