5G iPad Pro with mini LED display might be coming in late 2020
- iPad Pro with 5G, mini-LED backlighting, or both, rumored to be launching in late 2020.
- Supply chain sources tell DigiTimes that mini-LED is going to get a big boost from Apple, as the company wants to use the technology on medium-size devices like the iPad Pro.
- Meanwhile, Jon Prosser says a 5G iPad Pro with a new A14X chip is due out this fall.

Apple might have had to cancel its rumored spring media event due to the pandemic currently sweeping the planet, but that didn’t stop the company from unveiling a few new products this week. On Wednesday morning, Apple quietly dropped two press releases on its website — one revealing an all-new iPad Pro with a LiDAR Scanner, and the other announcing a MacBook Air with a cheaper price point and an upgraded keyboard.
As intriguing as the new iPad Pro is, it might also be a stopgap as Apple prepares to launch a revolutionary new tablet this fall. We have heard countless rumors about Apple’s plans for the iPad line, but the reports are beginning to paint a clearer picture of what the late 2020 iPad will have to offer, including 5G and mini-LED technology.

Google I/O 2020 completely canceled as California shuts down
- Google I/O, the company’s annual developer conference, was scheduled to begin on May 12th.
- On Friday, Google confirmed that the event has been canceled and will not be held “in any capacity.”
- Google typically shows off new versions of the Android OS and occasionally new hardware at the annual event, but it will have to find a different venue this year.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Google announced on Friday that Google I/O 2020 has been fully canceled. The annual developer conference is the biggest event of the year for the company, similar to Apple’s WWDC (which has also been canceled), and is usually where Google shows off the latest version of the Android mobile operating system. Several hardware debuts have taken place at Google I/O as well, including the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL at last year’s event.
This announcement comes just weeks after Google said it would cancel the physical event at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, but would “explore other ways to evolve Google I/O to best connect with our developer community.” In the days since, Google’s decision was made for it.

MacBook Air review roundup: Everyone loves the new keyboard design
- Apple this week released a new MacBook Air with some significant hardware upgrades.
- The biggest change to the MacBook Air is that it does away with the butterfly keyboard that was arguably the biggest design fiasco in Apple’s history.
- The early MacBook Air reviews are in and the consensus is that Apple has a hit on its hands.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
With Apple retail stores outside of China still closed for the foreseeable future, it’s not exactly an opportune time for Apple to release a slew of new products. Still, Apple has a product roadmap to adhere to and the company earlier this week released revamped iPad Pro models, an updated Mac Mini, and last but not least, and a brand new 13-inch MacBook Air priced aggressively at $999.
Apple was initially going to announce the aforementioned products, along with the iPhone 9, at a special event sometime this month. Of course, those plans fell by the wayside in the wake of the coronavirus and social distancing measures.

Disney’s ‘Onward’ is already available online – could ‘Black Widow’ be next?
- Disney made a surprise announcement on Friday, revealing that the recently released Pixar film Onward will be immediately available for purchase online.
- The move follows Universal’s similar initiative to launch a few upcoming movies directly online in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
- Could Disney do the same thing with bigger films set to launch this year, including Black Widow, whose May 1st launch was just canceled?
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Manufacturing, travel, restaurants, and entertainment are just a few industries that will take massive hits in the near future due to the coronavirus pandemic. Some of them can adapt to weather the storm. Restaurants can deliver food, and entertainment can move online. To that point, Universal announced earlier this week that several of its 2020 theatrical releases will be available online on the day they hit theaters, which is an interesting development for the movie business.
Most companies have delayed the premieres of their upcoming releases, and some theater chains have already closed, which means other films scheduled to launch during this period will have to find somewhere new to launch. Disney is apparently ready to do a bit of both, and it’ll be interesting to see what it means for one of its biggest films of the year, Marvel’s Black Widow, which was originally scheduled to launch on May 1st.

Google Maps now shows coronavirus warnings on Android and iPhone
- Google Maps has now begun to display a coronavirus alert on Android, iPhone, and the web.
- The message reminds people to call their doctors before visiting a medical facility and points to the CDC’s official help page for the novel coronavirus.
- The virus is highly contagious, and the CDC says that people who think they have the disease shouldn’t go to a hospital without first calling a doctor or 911 for instructions.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Google is doing several things to help during the novel coronavirus pandemic. The company promised to develop a version of the nationwide COVID-19 website that Trump bragged about a week ago, although the site might have a more limited scope than initially advertised. The company has also placed a COVID-19 news panel on the homepage of YouTube to provide quick access to authoritative information about coronavirus developments, and Google reduced video streaming quality to SD in Europe, the epicenter of the pandemic right now. It’s therefore not surprising to see Google Maps used to raise awareness about the coronavirus, as Google is now displaying COVID-19 warnings inside the Android and iPhone versions of the app.

Supercomputer finds 77 drugs that could halt coronavirus spread
- The ultra-powerful IBM supercomputer Summit has identified 77 compounds that could help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
- These compounds could be used to develop treatments and vaccines that would halt the spread of the virus and prevent further infections.
- With dozens of possible options, each of these drugs will have to be tested to see how effective they are in a real-world scenario.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Scientists have enlisted the help of a supercomputer to fight back against the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus. Researchers from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory just published the results of a project in which they tasked the massive IBM supercomputer known as Summit with finding the most effective existing drugs that could combat COVID-19.
The paper, which was published in the journal ChemRxiv, focuses on the method the virus uses to bind to cells. Like other viruses, the novel coronavirus uses a spike protein to inject cells. Using Summit with an algorithm to investigate which drugs could bind to the protein and prevent the virus from doing its duty, the researchers now have a list of 77 drugs that show promise.

New study finally reveals how long coronavirus survives on surfaces and in the air
- Researches have looked at how long the novel coronavirus can survive on surfaces and in the air to better understand how to prevent infections.
- The virus that causes the COVID-19 disease can survive for up to three hours in the air, and up to three days on certain surfaces.
- The findings further support the idea that there are two simple things anyone can do to prevent infections: Social distancing and thorough hand-washing.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
You’ve been hearing this advice everywhere for months now, and I’m about to repeat the same thing: wash your hands often, especially when you return back home — and be sure to use sanitizer if available while you’re out and about. Also, don’t EVER touch your face until you’ve washed your hands. It can be annoying when you have to make a conscious effort not to put your hands anywhere near your face, but it’s all for your own good.
The reason we’ve heard these things since the novel coronavirus was discovered in China is pretty simple. The SARS-CoV-2 virus can survive outside of the body. It’s spread via tiny droplets when someone coughs or sneezes, droplets that then land on surfaces around the infected person. Touching those surfaces is enough to get it on your hands. And from there, it might be just a matter of time until it reaches your mouth or eyes.
Researchers have looked at the COVID-19 virus’s ability to survive on different surfaces and in the air, and the conclusions aren’t great. The virus can live from hours to days outside of the body, and that’s why washing your hands and disinfecting surfaces is crucial for beating this illness. Also, because it can live up to three hours in the air, you should avoid being in close proximity to people until the spread of this deadly virus is under control.
