Hurry, UV-C smartphone sanitizers are somehow back in stock on Amazon
- The COVID-10 coronavirus pandemic is picking up pace at an alarming clip in the United States, which doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering how much the White House tried to downplay it in the early days of the novel coronavirus’s arrival in the US.
- People are being advised to stay at home unless it’s absolutely necessary to leave the house, and every venture into a public space presents new risks of becoming infected.
- Anytime you leave the house, there are certain precautions you need to take, and using a UV-C smartphone sanitizer is an added measure that can help keep you and your loved ones safe.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Every single time you leave the house and step into a public space, you’re putting yourself and your loved ones at risk. Sometimes the risk is unavoidable, like when you have to pick up food. Regardless of the reason, there are a number of things you need to do each and every time you leave the house.
First, practice social distancing. Stay as far away from other people as you possibly can while you’re out and about. You should also try not to touch any surface that other people might have touched, though it’s obviously unavoidable at times. That’s why you need to always take extra care not to touch your face, and you should wash your hands thoroughly in warm water for up to a minute as soon as you get back home, preferably before touching anything else. But there’s something else you need to keep in mind and we cannot stress this enough: If you use your smartphone at all while you’re out and about, there’s a good chance that it’s covered with germs.
HoMedics UV-Clean Phone Sanitizer | Faster Than Any UV Sanitizer On The Market | Kills Up to 99…: $79.99
Even if you remove the COVID-19 virus from the conversations, smartphones are still cesspools of germs and bacteria. Throw the novel coronavirus into the mix and cleaning your smartphone is of the utmost importance. If you somehow still have Clorox wipes or Lysol wipes at home, you can definitely use those to clean your phone. If you don’t however, you’ll have to find another good solution — and that’s where UV-C smartphone sanitizers. They’re hard to come by right now, but nowhere near as hard as Clorox wipes. In fact, there are a few different options in stock right now on Amazon.
The HoMedics UV-Clean Phone Sanitizer is one that we’ve tested and we actually use ourselves, and it was available to be shipped to your door for free as soon as next week at the time of this writing. There’s also a UV Cell Phone Sanitizer by Soeland that’s in stock right now, and if you want to go all-out you can get something like the 3B Lumin CPAP Mask and Accessory Cleaner, which is basically the same thing but it’s designed for CPAP equipment so it’s far more powerful.
You’ll find several additional options right now if you check out this UV Sanitizer page on Amazon, but you should definitely order soon because these are going to sell out fast.

What Android looked like before iPhone saved it
- Google’s original Sooner Android prototype appeared on eBay, with someone selling a bunch of devices.
- This Android prototype predates the iPhone and looks just like the BlackBerry devices that were sold in stores at the time.
- Google immediately scraped the design and re-engineered Android to mimic the iPhone rather than BlackBerry, once Apple unveiled the original iPhone.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
One of the biggest battles in tech is iPhone vs. Android, with each side having raving fans ready to defend their favorite smartphone over any criticism. The truth is that it doesn’t really matter which smartphone you get these days. They’re all nearly the same, featuring various versions of “all-screen” designs, and offer fast access to the same sort of apps, games, and entertainment. And it’s all possible thanks to the increased competition between Apple and Google when it comes to the operating system, and between all smartphone vendors when it comes to hardware and design improvements. But there’s no denying that it’s the iPhone that started the smartphone revolution more than a decade ago and that Google was the first to realize what was happening and adapted Android to compete against the iPhone long before other rivals did. And the following images will show you exactly how Android phones looked like before iPhone saved them.

The first Nokia 5G phone is affordable, but it’s not a Galaxy S20 contender
- HMD Global unveiled its first 5G phone, the Nokia 8.3 5G, which will cost just €599 when it hits stores this summer.
- The handset, however, isn’t a flagship like Samsung’s Galaxy S20, but a high-end device sporting a few design and specs compromises.
- HMD also unveiled a trio of affordable phones, including the new Nokia 5310 “Original.”
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
HMD Global is the latest handset maker to unveil a 5G handset, the company’s first Nokia 5G phone. Most vendors will probably have at least one 5G phone in stores this year, just as carriers will improve coverage. These 5G phones will be more affordable than last year’s models, but some flagships will still cost more than you’d expect, with the Galaxy S20 series being a prime example of that. HMD, however, is doing things differently, as the Nokia 8.3 is a 5G phone that won’t burn a hole in your pocket. That means, however, that you’ll have to accept several compromises.

Ancient ‘Wonderchicken’ fossil is oldest of modern birds
- Oldest-ever modern bird fossil found in Europe has been nicknamed the “Wonderchicken” due to its similarities between present-day chickens and ducks.
- It’s believed that the species roamed the region as far back as one million years before the asteroid strike that triggered the death of most dinosaur species.
- The fossil is helping scientists paint a clearer picture of the evolution of birds as we know them today.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
An ancient bird species has just been identified by a group of scientists led by the University of Cambridge. It’s thought to be the oldest example of a modern bird ever discovered, and it’s older than the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs by a full million years.
The discovery, which was published in the journal Nature, is helping scientists to better understand when the first examples of modern birds emerged. It’s also aiding in explaining why birds managed to persist even after the catastrophic dinosaur-killing asteroid came crashing down.

Stuck at home, Conan O’Brien to film episodes of ‘CONAN’ on his iPhone
- Conan O’Brien announced that his show CONAN will resume production next week, albeit at the comedian’s home.
- O’Brien noted on Twitter that he will film the show by himself using an iPhone and that guests will be interviewed via Skype.
- O’Brien isn’t the only host adjusting to an environment where nearly every production is on hold. In recent weeks, late-night hosts have continued to record shows in-studio, only without a live studio audience.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The coronavirus is forcing many in the entertainment industry to improvise and come up with novel ways to keep that sweet content flowing. While some comics started releasing video clips on Twitter and Instagram to help satiate the masses, late-night hosts like Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon started recording episodes without a live studio audience.
In a similar vein, Conan O’Brien is planning to bring his popular TBS show CONAN back to the air, albeit with a coronavirus-inspired twist. As first detailed via a tweet from O’Brien himself, the former host of The Tonight Show said that he plans to shoot new episodes of CONAN from his house using a trusty iPhone.

Nokia handset maker launches global data-roaming service
- Nokia handset maker HMD Global quietly announced a global roaming data-only service called HMD Connect.
- The SIM card comes with 1GB of bonus data, after which you pay for the data you need while roaming in chunks of up to 1GB, depending on the country you’re in.
- The service can be managed from an app that’s already available in the Play Store, but doesn’t include voice minutes or regular texting.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
HMD Global should be a known commodity to Android fans by now, as it’s the company that now makes Nokia-branded smartphones. It turns out the company has more ambitious plans in mind than just selling phones, as it has quietly launched a brand new service that will benefit frequent travelers.
Called HMD Connect, the service is a pay-as-you-go global roaming internet service that works in more than 120 countries. The launch couldn’t have occurred at a worse time, however, as the “hassle-free data SIM” isn’t of much use in a world that’s currently preventing any unnecessary travel. Travel between Europe and the US is halted at this time, and several countries have instituted travel bans of their own to fight the COVID-19 outbreak.

‘Friends’ reunion show on HBO Max delayed due to the coronavirus
- HBO Max is a new streaming service set to launch in May of 2020.
- Amidst a slew of streaming services, HBO Max was hoping that a highly-anticipated ‘Friends’ reunion show would help it make a big splash and hit the ground running.
- The ‘Friends’ reunion show has since been delayed on account of the coronavirus. With the U.S. still working hard to contain the virus and prevent it from spreading, every Hollywood production is effectively on an indefinite hiatus.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
While you can make a strong case arguing that the last thing we need is yet another streaming service, AT&T’s HBO Max actually sounds compelling. Aside from offering users the expected stable of HBO content, HBO Max will also offer up original programming and shows from the likes of Warner Bros., New Line, DC Entertainment, TNT, TBS, truTV, the Cartoon Network, and more.
Beyond that HBO Max will also be the place where subscribers can enjoy all six seasons (148 episodes worth!) of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, a classic 90s comedy that has been conspicuously absent from streaming platforms. Still, there’s no question that the biggest show coming to HBO Max is Friends, the popular NBC show that enjoyed renewed popularity when it was on Netflix for a couple of years.

We’re all going to be stuck indoors for a while. It’s not clear exactly how long, but if you’re expecting things to go back to normal within the next few weeks, chances are that you’re going to be disappointed. The coronavirus pandemic is an unprecedented crisis, and the only way that most of us can fight it is by simply doing nothing. If you don’t catch COVID-19, you can’t spread it, and if you don’t spread it, you’re part of the solution.
That’s all well and good, but if government officials and medical professionals expect us to stay cooped up for weeks on end, we are going to need plenty of ways to pass the time. Thankfully, game developers from around the world are stepping up by either putting their games on sale or giving them away in order to give us more reasons to stay parked in front of our PCs or TVs. The latest example is a collection of 64 free and cheap games on Itch.io.

Uber ride volume is down 70% because of the coronavirus
- Uber’s business has been impacted significantly by the coronavirus, with the ride sharing giant noting that ride volume is down by nearly 70% in some areas.
- The company has enough cash on hand to survive the current coronavirus crisis, according to CEO Dara Khosrowshahi.
- Uber has temporarily suspended Uber Pool rides to help stop the virus from spreading.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
In a call with investors today, Uber had some good news and bad news to share. The bad news is that the volume of people taking Ubers has fallen drastically, with CEO Dara Khosrowshahi noting that ride volume is down nearly 70% in some cities. This, of course, shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given that many people are quarantined and, if we’re being honest, there’s not really anywhere to go given that restaurants, bars, gyms, and movie theaters are all closed for the time being.
The good news, though, is that the sky isn’t falling for Uber. According to Khosrowshahi, Uber has more than enough cash to help the company withstand and get through the current coronavirus crisis. Even in a worst-case scenario that would see ride volume drop by as much as 80%, Uber maintains that it will be able to persevere.
