SpaceX will launch its first crewed mission as early as May
- SpaceX and NASA are planning the launch of the first crewed flight of Crew Dragon to the International Space Station as early as May.
- The mission will see two NASA astronauts travel to the ISS after being launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
- A delay in the mission is possible, especially given the current pandemic and slowdowns as NASA urges much of its workforce to work from home.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
NASA and SpaceX are targeting the launch of the first crewed mission in a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft for mid-to-late May, according to the US space agency. The launch will be the first crewed mission into space launched from US soil since the last launch of the Space Shuttle way back in 2011.
The launch, which will take place from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, will see a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket fire the Crew Dragon to the International Space Station. Onboard the spacecraft will be NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley. The mission follows a successful uncrewed test flight of the Crew Dragon to the ISS months earlier.

There is no COVID-19 vaccine. Don’t fall for scams.
- Scammers are calling or texting people, offering COVID-19 vaccine reservations in return for credit card details and social security numbers.
- There’s no such thing as a coronavirus vaccine, although plenty of countries have them in development.
- There’s no specific COVID-19 treatment either, even though some existing drugs have shown promise on some patients.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Several countries are working on fast-tracking a COVID-19 vaccine that could prevent the disease from spreading, assuming the virus doesn’t mutate by the time a vaccine is ready. However, the vaccine won’t be available until next year, according to most estimates, as these new drugs will have to go through the same regulatory hurdles as any other type of vaccine, no matter how dire the situation might be.
Trials and studies will need to be conducted to demonstrate the efficiency and safety of the vaccines before they become available to the general public. In other words, hang up immediately if anybody calls you promising immediate access to a COVID-19 vaccine.

This site tells you how long you’ve got until you’re out of toilet paper
- Retailers are still having trouble keeping household essentials like hand sanitizer and toilet paper stocked on the shelves as the COVID-19 coronavirus panic shows no signs of slowing down.
- To help stop all the panic-buying so that there will be more supplies to go around, a new website has been built that calculates how long your current stash of toilet paper should last.
- Simply input how many rolls you currently have on hand and how many trips to the bathroom you make daily, and the calculator estimates how many days before your supply runs out.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
One of the defining images associated with the coronavirus crisis that’s got the US and much of the rest of the world locked in the grips of a catastrophic panic is that of empty store shelves. Almost as soon as the crisis began to take hold and people learned more and more about the deadly virus, shoppers around the world raced to stock up (and in many cases, hoard) household essentials like hand sanitizer and toilet paper.
That’s still the case in many places around the country, with retailers struggling to keep the shelves stocked and resorting to measures like cutting store hours to give themselves more breathing room to get a handle on their inventory. Which is why it shouldn’t come as a surprise that someone has now built a toilet paper calculator — a website that you can use to input how many rolls you have on hand, and how often you make trips to the toilet each day, to make an estimate of how long your stash should last you.

Everything new coming to Disney+ in April 2020
- New shows and movies streaming on Disney+ in April 2020 have been revealed.
- In celebration of Earth Month, Disney is adding a collection of documentaries, series, and films from National Geographic and Disneynature to Disney+.
- Some other highlights in April include National Treasure, Doctor Doolittle, and Clone Wars.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Of all the months for the release schedule on Disney+ to slow to a crawl, this certainly wasn’t the best choice. If there is one streaming service that has been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic most noticeably, it’s got to be Disney+, as virtually all of the big shows set to arrive on the service in the coming months have had to stop production due to the virus. That includes every Marvel show currently in development.
Unfortunately, Disney+ doesn’t have much to make up for the missing shows in the meantime. The only real highlights this month (at least in terms of what I recognize) are National Treasure and several new episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It’s fairly barren otherwise, though the Earth Month collection looks intriguing.

Marvel insider says ‘Black Widow’ delay won’t ruin MCU Phase 4
- Disney delayed several movie premieres because of the coronavirus, including Black Widow, the introduction to Phase 4 of the MCU.
- Unlike standalone movies, Black Widow is tied to a much bigger universe of intertwined adventures, and its delay might affect the MCU timeline.
- An insider now says that postponing Black Widow won’t ruin the MCU timeline, though.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Disney confirmed that Black Widow will be delayed due to the coronavirus a few days ago, which wasn’t necessarily a surprise, considering that other studios had been doing the same. Sony’s No Time to Die and Universal’s Fast and Furious 9 are two such examples. And Black Widow wasn’t even Disney’s first cancelation, as the premieres of both Mulan and The New Mutants were pushed back days earlier.
But Black Widow, unlike many of those other movies, is part of a much bigger universe, being the first movie of Marvel’s MCU Phase 4. A Black Widow delay might ruin Marvel and Disney’s schedule, which we explained a few weeks ago. Now an insider says that’s not going to be the case.

A drug called losartan might help us beat coronavirus
- Scientists from the University of Minnesota are testing the blood pressure drug losartan to see if it can prevent COVID-19 infection or reduce symptoms.
- The drug, which is a widely-available generic medication, may help by blocking a site on cells that is used by the virus.
- Doctors are also testing the malaria medication hydroxychloroquine to see if it can help stem the tide of the pandemic.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
A generic blood pressure medication may ultimately help doctors fight back against the spread of the novel coronavirus and COVID-19, the disease that results from an infection. As Reuters reports, scientists at the University of Minnesota are attempting to determine whether the drug can prevent the virus from causing severe symptoms and perhaps even prevent the rapid multiplication of the virus within the body.
Losartan, also sold under the brand name Cozaar, blocks a specific receptor on cells that the virus may exploit. Preventing the virus from binding to cells could dramatically alter the recovery time of a patient with the virus or even curb the spread of the pandemic as a whole. First, however, we need to know that it works.

EU wants Netflix to downgrade its streaming quality, and that’s fantastic news
- The European Union has asked Netflix to downgrade the quality of its video streams to SD to reduce the strain on networks.
- More people in the EU are staying at home because of the coronavirus, and they’re consuming more content online whether it’s due to working from home, schoolwork, or entertainment.
- Netflix isn’t the only service seeing a surge in activity, with Facebook’s WhatsApp and Messenger seeing more than double their usual levels of traffic.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
UPDATE: Netflix has agreed to reduce the quality of its streaming content in Europe to help reduce the strain on networks in the region. “Following the discussions between Commissioner Thierry Breton and Reed Hastings — and given the extraordinary challenges raised by the coronavirus — Netflix has decided to begin reducing bit rates across all our streams in Europe for 30 days,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement.
EARLIER: Governments around the world have been declaring national emergencies and instituting various types of measures meant to enforce social distancing because medical systems need time to deal with the potentially massive influx of COVID-19 patients. Treatment is possible but might require intensive care for some patients, including access to ventilators to help with breathing. It turns out that having too many people isolating themselves at home may have an unexpected side effect, at least in the European Union. Authorities have already asked Netflix to reduce movie streaming quality because networks are under increased strain. While you may be annoyed to see your 4K or Full HD streams downgraded to SD quality, the EU’s request has a silver lining in it that might not be immediately obvious.

Trust me, if you own an Apple Watch you need this $19 accessory
- The Apple Watch has the opposite problem as Apple’s iPhones: It comes with a cable that’s way too long instead of way too short.
- It can also be annoying to have yet another cable you need to remember to pack when you travel.
- The MQOUNY Portable Apple Watch Charger solves the problem — it’s a wonderfully compact portable Apple Watch charger that’s on sale right now for just $18.99.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
There are some products that have such a meaningful impact on your routine that once you start using them, you really can’t imagine life without them. It doesn’t have to be something big or even something expensive. It just has to be something that meets a need and makes your life easier, and such is the case with the MQOUNY Portable Apple Watch Charger.
This awesome little gadget — which, by the way, is on sale right now on Amazon for just $18.99 — is a real lifesaver. There are so many times when I forget to take my Apple Watch off at night to charge it on my bed-side table. Since it barely lasts for one day on a charge, getting through a second day without recharging it is impossible. That’s why I now always carry the MQOUNY portable charger with me in my bag.
It has a wireless charging disc just like the regular Apple Watch charger, plus it has a USB plug right on the side so you can connect it to any laptop or USB wall adapter to charge. But the best part is you don’t even need to plug it in to charge your Apple watch because it has a built-in battery that lasts for two or three full Apple Watch charges before it needs to be recharged itself!
MQOUNY for Apple Watch Wireless Charger,Portable iWatch Charger Magnetic Wireless Charger 1000m…: $18.99
All you have to do to appreciate how great it is to carry this little portable charger on you is to read the reviews on Amazon — like this one:
I always forget to charge my Apple Watch for some reason and when I get to work, I end up with a dead watch halfway through my day. This has come in so extremely handy to keep my watch charged on the days that it’s dying. And I don’t have to travel with my cable watch charger. It is also very compact and the cap for the USB is attached so I’ll never lose it!
Or this one:
Finally a portable Apple Watch Charger! I’ve been so sick of using the cord and a power bank. This combines the two. The Apple Watch is about 250 Mah and this boasts a 1000mah so theoretically 4 charges which should get you a total of one week’s use if you charge every other day. It can be plugged in and used as a standard charger or for traveling. It has an indicator light as well as a tether to the cap so it won’t get lost. Great little addition!
And this one:
I love this charger. So much I bought one for my boss for his birthday last week. It’s so small and lightweight I keep it in my purse. I’ll wake up many mornings and discover my watch didn’t charge. I can’t stand a day without my watch working. Especially because I track my exercise and it’s important to me. This little gadget is great. And a great gift. What a fun find.
Plus, this one:
I love having this charger, it has definitely come in handy. It’s nice and compact for a great travel charger. I usually carry it around my pocket around because it is nice and small and my watch seems to always die because I forget to charge it. I had my watch a year before I got this charger and this charger seems like it should have been a must have! I would definitely recommend this!
There are plenty more where those came from, but you get the idea. It’s so awesome to be able to completely stop worrying about forgetting to charge your Apple Watch. It’s also awesome to not have to worry about traveling with Apple’s crazy-long charging cable. For just $18.99, you really can’t go wrong — it’s a game-changer! Of note, there are a bunch of other great Apple Watch accessories on sale today on Amazon, so definitely check them out.
