SpaceX just set a new record by launching the same rocket five times
- SpaceX set a record this morning with the launch of a Falcon 9 booster that had already flown four times before.
- The booster failed to land on the platform for a fifth time, but the launch still set a record for the company.
- The rocket’s fairing halves were also recovered.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
SpaceX’s busy schedule of rocket launches continued this morning with the launch of a Falcon 9 rocket delivering yet another bundle of the company’s Starlink satellites into orbit. The launch, which was originally scheduled for Sunday, but was called off after an automatic abort was triggered.
The launch is just a tiny part of the larger Starlink mission, which will eventually see thousands and thousands of tiny satellites sent into orbit. However, this morning’s launch was special for an entirely different reason. It was the first time a Falcon 9 rocket has been reused five times, and the record-setting mission shows just how powerful SpaceX’s reusable rocket business model can be.

The Trump administration wants to send every American up to $2,000
- The Trump administration is proposing a $1 trillion stimulus package to deal with the economic impact of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
- Among its components, the plan calls for sending out as much as $2,000 to Americans in the form of two checks — one sent out on April 6 and the other on May 18.
- Not everyone would get the full $2,000. The final amount would be based on income level and family size.
- This follows some of the worst stock market drops on record, as panic and fear continue to follow the spread of the deadly virus that shows no sign of slowing down yet.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
As much as $2,000 could be coming to most Americans as emergency cash — in the form of two $1,000 checks — if the Trump administration gets its wish as part of a newly proposed $1 trillion stimulus package to deal with the economic effects of the coronavirus.
This package, which far dwarfs what the government spent to bail out the banking industry in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, would include as its largest component half a trillion dollars in direct aid to individual Americans in the form of the emergency cash payouts. The plan is still not final yet, however, and the amounts could change as the Trump administration hammers out the details with congressional leaders.

Pretty much no one is buying Samsung’s new Galaxy S20, according to Korean media
- Early sales figures are starting to trickle in for Samsung’s new Galaxy S20 line, and at least when it comes to the S20 itself, the numbers aren’t looking good so far.
- Samsung has reportedly “radically” cut demand for S20 parts, and the handset itself is apparently selling worse than last year’s Galaxy S10. Of course, the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis has proven to be highly detrimental to sales, since the current global pandemic means consumers aren’t exactly in the mood to splurge on pricey electronics and are instead more focused on buying food and essentials right now.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Can we go ahead and dub Samsung’s new Galaxy S20 flagship one of the unluckiest handsets in history? Korean media has begun reporting that inventory is piling up and that sales of the newly-released handset are shaping up to be worse than last year’s Galaxy S10.
Obviously, most people aren’t exactly in the mood to buy new electronic goods right now given that there’s, you know, a global pandemic that’s still raging at the moment. And even if they were in the mood, the fact that most people are hunkered down at home and practicing social distancing isn’t exactly conducive to participating in consumerism.

PS5 vs. Xbox Series X: Comparing the specs of the next-gen consoles
- Microsoft and Sony both pulled back the curtain on the internal specifications of their next-gen consoles this week following months of anticipation.
- We can now at least partially compare the performance of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, although we have yet to see either running a next-generation video game.
- While the PS5’s raw numbers pale in comparison to those of the Xbox Series X, both will be incredibly powerful and should run current-gen games at lightning speeds.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
By the time we actually get our hands on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X this holiday season (providing the virus doesn’t ruin everything), many of us will have forgotten all about the teraflops and gigahertz.
No matter how powerful a new video game console is, what really matters is the quality of the games available on the console, and how well it plays those games. Unfortunately, it will be quite some time before we can see either the PS5 or the Xbox Series X running next-gen games, so in the meantime, there’s only one way to compare the two.
This week, both Sony and Microsoft divulged the full specifications of their upcoming consoles, and while there are a number of similarities, there are a few key differences that will have fans arguing for months.

New report says iPhone 12 release could be delayed
- Apple’s iPhone 12 release may be delayed in a worst-case scenario as the world is still looking to get a handle on the coronavirus.
- The iPhone 12 was poised to be a huge release, complete with new and advanced hardware and, at long last, the inclusion of 5G support.
- The worldwide impact of the coronavirus is unprecedented in the modern era and there’s no telling the extent to which Apple’s bottom line will suffer as a result.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
With the iPhone 12 release presumably about six months away, one feature that was all but guaranteed was the inclusion of 5G support. Indeed, Apple’s insistence on rolling out a next-gen iPhone with 5G connectivity was the driving force behind the company’s decision to settle their bitter legal dispute with Qualcomm over iPhone royalties. Qualcomm, of course, is the biggest supplier of 5G chipsets and Apple, we would later found out, came to the conclusion that Intel would not be able to meet Apple’s 5G needs with respect to both performance and shipment volume.
The coronavirus, however, may ultimately throw Apple’s 5G plans on the back burner. A new investor note from Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives relays that the iPhone 12 with 5G may not hit store shelves this fall given that “the global lockdown-like conditions with the supply chain in Asia [is] still on a path to normalization.”

Why pay $50 for Apple Watch Sport Bands when these lookalikes are $6?
- The Apple Watch is the most popular smartwatch in the world. In fact, it’s the best-selling watch model period, not just among smartwatches.
- One of the best things about the Apple Watch is how flexible and versatile it is since Apple makes a wide range of interchangeable bands that you can swap out as often as you’d like.
- As great as it is to be able to customize the look of your Apple Watch on a whim, Apple’s bands are very expensive — but there’s an alternative called the VATI Sport Band that’s available in even more colors for a fraction of what Apple charges.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
I don’t care how much money you have, if you have an Apple Watch and you buy Sport Bands from Apple, you’re crazy. The company charges $50 a pop for two little pieces of rubber, and that’s not okay — especially not when other companies sell the exact same thing at a small fraction of that price. Case in point: the VATI Sport Band for Apple Watch on Amazon is identical to Apple’s official Sport Band, it comes in about a million different colors, and prices start at just $5 and change!
Okay fine, so there aren’t actually a million different colors, but there are more than two dozen colors available and that’s a whole lot more than you’ll find at your local Apple store. And it’s important to note that despite the incredibly low prices, these Sport Bands are just as good as the ones Apple charges $50 for. In fact, you won’t even be able to tell the difference since they’re made out of the same material and have the exact same design.
VATI Sport Band Compatible for Apple Watch Band 42mm 44mm, Soft Silicone Sport Strap Replacemen…: $5.99+
Here’s a review on Amazon about how great these bands are and how close they are to Apple’s Sport Bands:
This band looks and feels as good as the one the Apple Watch came with. It’s smooth and almost velvety feeling. The price is unbeatable and the color choices are great! I bought a yellow one and just looking at it makes me happy! It’s bright, cheerful, and summery – a true yellow. The band also has the same type of closure as the Apple brand. I’ll be ordering more!
There are plenty more where that came from because the VATI Sport Bands for Apple Watch is just about indistinguishable from Apple’s official Apple Watch bands. Head over to Amazon now and you’ll find more than two dozen color options in stock with prices that start at just $5.99. There are also different bundles available with multiple colors in one pack, and that drops the per-band price to as little as $4.62.

PS5 reveal: Here’s everything Sony didn’t announce
- Sony’s big PS5 announcement turned out to be a boring affair for the hundreds of thousands of fans who flocked to YouTube in hope of seeing the console for the first time.
- The PlayStation 5 announcements seemed to target developers more than gamers who are looking to buy the console, as Sony didn’t reveal anything juicy about the device.
- The PS5 specs will match the Xbox Series X for the most part, and the tech Sony developed for the console is fascinating, if you’re into that. Otherwise, you’re back to waiting for an actual PS5 reveal and there’s no telling when that might happen.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
You only needed a few minutes of watching Sony’s big PlayStation 5 event on Wednesday to realize that Sony was about to ruin its huge PS5 reveal for all its gamers. Don’t get me wrong, Sony’s revelations about the various technologies that go into the development of the PS5 are certainly interesting. But what Sony’s lead PS5 system architect Mark Cerny gave a presentation that can only cater to a particular type of audience: developers. Sony’s PS5 announcement would have been fine had Sony wanted to reach the boredom levels that Google and Microsoft aim for with certain sections of their I/O and Build events. Then again, those events also contain plenty of announcements for consumers, not just for the developers in the audience who will use those software innovations to provide new experiences for those Google and Microsoft devices. Sony’s event on Wednesday was even more annoying than that, as the entire PS5 presentation felt like an internal presentation for game developers. That’s because it was the GDC keynote Sony had planned but never got the chance to host because the coronavirus pandemic caused the event to be canceled.
Sony fans in the audience did not expect that, however. If you followed the pre-recorded event live of YouTube, you’ve probably noticed that more than 600,000 fans sat through it. You’ve probably seen the comments section too, rolling up in real-time and asking for Sony to actually reveal PS5 details that matter to gamers. And you’ve probably noticed the massive amount of hate the clip got — the video had over 25,000 dislikes when Cerny finished the keynote, and that number went up to 55,000 as of the time of this writing.

Add Alexa to your car for $35, Amazon’s lowest price of 2020
- Amazon’s virtual personal assistant Alexa is definitely one of the retail giant’s greatest creations, and so many people can’t imagine life without it.
- People love Alexa so much in their homes, but then they lose access to Alexa when they go out since Echo speakers can’t travel with them.
- Amazon is well aware of that limitation, and that’s exactly why the company created the Echo Auto, which makes Alexa accessible in your car while you drive.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
If you’re like me, you no longer view Alexa as a luxury. No, Amazon’s virtual personal assistant is definitely a necessity these days, and I can’t even remember what life was like before I had Alexa to do my bidding. Alexa turns the lights on and off for me, it shows me who’s at my front door on my Echo Show, it makes my coffee in the morning, and it even arms my alarm system at night. I’m so used to having the ability to speak commands to Alexa that I have definitely caught myself doing it once or twice when I wasn’t even in range of an Echo speaker. Oops!
The only complaint I might have about Alexa is that it’s not easily accessible once I leave my house. Or at least, that used to be the case before I got my hands on one of Amazon’s newest Alexa smart devices. It’s called the Echo Auto, and it’s basically an Echo Dot for your car. It gives you hands-free access to all the Alexa skills you love, and it plays Alexa’s voice or streaming music through your car’s speakers. It’s fantastic, and it’s on sale right now for just $34.99 instead of $50.
Here’s some of the important info from the Amazon page:
- Your voice is in the driver’s seat: Just ask Alexa to play music, continue your Audible audiobook, check your calendar, find nearby businesses, or make calls. With 8 microphones, Echo Auto even hears you over road noise. Echo Auto starts up in seconds, works through your car speakers, and uses your existing smartphone plan.
- How does Echo Aut work? Echo Auto connects to Alexa through your phone’s Alexa app and plays through your car’s speakers via auxiliary input or your smartphone’s Bluetooth connection. Each time you start your car make sure your phone’s volume is up and set your car stereo to the correct input. Then say “Alexa”—wait for the chime—and ask.
- Hands-free news and entertainment: Echo Auto uses the Alexa app to access your favorite content. Just ask Alexa to play a song, genre, artist, or station from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, SiriusXM, and more. With TuneIn and iHeartRadio, listen to local radio stations or thousands more from around the world. With Audible, listen to the world’s largest library of audiobooks. Plus, stream podcasts, listen to the news, or keep the whole car entertained with games like Jeopardy!, 20 Questions, and more.
- Make the most of your drive: Update to-do lists, set reminders, or check calendars while your eyes stay on the road. Just ask for directions and Alexa connects to supported apps like Google Maps, Apple Maps, or Waze on your phone. Alexa can even help you make calls, drop In on compatible Echo devices at home, or send an Announcement that you’re on your way.
- Alexa has skills: With tens of thousands of skills and counting, Alexa is always getting smarter. Skills are like apps and let you play road trip games like HeadsUp!, find the cheapest gas with GasBuddy, get help parking with ParkWhiz or ParkBob, or even get roadside assistance with Nationwide or Urgent.ly.

Clues for key iPhone 12 specs might be hidden inside the new iPad Pro
- Apple just announced brand new 2020 iPad Pro models, which feature several upgrades over their predecessors like a new LiDAR camera system and a more powerful processor.
- The iPad Pro hardware contains other clues for the specs of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 12 series, with built-in storage being the biggest surprise.
- The cheapest versions of the new iPads come with twice the storage of their predecessors for the same price, a trend that could carry over to APple’s next iPhones.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Apple on Wednesday unveiled new hardware, as was previously rumored, including the 2020 MacBook Air, and the brand new iPad Pro models. The iPads offer a variety of improvements over the 2018 iPad Pro generations, including a dual-lens camera system that features a third depth-sensing LiDAR sensor, trackpad support, as well as a brand new Magic Keyboard with an interesting floating design and an additional USB-C port for battery charging. But there’s even more to the 2020 iPad Pro story, as the new tablet’s specs might contain key clues for what’s coming to the iPhone 12 series later this year.

One of Dyson’s most powerful vacuums is only $175 in Amazon’s one-day deal
- Dyson is the most recognizable name in the vacuum industry and the company’s various cordless and corded vacuum models outperform almost everything else on the market.
- Unfortunately, the best always comes at a cost and Dyson’ vacuums are also among the most expensive options out there.
- Amazon is running a one-day Gold Box deal on the renewed Dyson Ball Multi Floor 2 Upright Vacuum, dropping it to just $174.99 until the end of the day on Wednesday.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Dyson makes some of the best cordless and corded vacuums in the world right now, and we doubt anyone would argue with that. Dyson models offer incredibly strong suction and great designs that people love, but there’s a downside to Dyson as well: The company’s various vacuum models are all very expensive.
Not everyone wants to spend $300, $500, or even $700 or more on a vacuum, so thankfully there are a bunch of other great options out there. If you want a cordless vacuum, we strongly recommend the $350 BISSELL ICONpet Cordless Vacuum, which is on sale right now at Amazon for just $199. If you want a corded vacuum for those tough messes that a stick vacuum simply can’t handle, there’s a fantastic opportunity on Wednesday to pick up a Dyson model with a deep discount.
