  • Apple announced a brand new iPad Pro model via a press release on its website on Wednesday.
  • The 2020 iPad Pro features a faster A12Z Bionic chip, an Ultra Wide rear camera, studio-quality mics, a LiDAR Scanner, and trackpad support.
  • The new iPad Pro is available to order today on apple.com and in the Apple Store app, starting at $799 for the 11-inch model and $999 for the 12.9-inch model.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Apple was once rumored to be holding a media event this spring to unveil new hardware, but the coronavirus made short work of those plans. There was no way Apple was going to invite hundreds of journalists inside the Steve Jobs Theater in the middle of March, so instead, the company dropped two press releases on Wednesday morning. One was to announce the new MacBook Air, and the other revealed a brand new iPad Pro model.

There are a host of upgrades present on the 2020 iPad Pro, including the new A12Z Bionic chip, which gives the iPad Pro the highest performance in any iPad to date. Apple says the battery lasts up to 10 hours, the Wi-Fi connectivity is faster than ever, and the gigabit-class LTE is 60% faster than before.

Fire TV Stick is just $23 in Amazon’s surprise sale

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The Fire TV Stick and Echo Dot are Amazon’s two best-selling hardware devices of all time, which makes sense since they’re each the most affordable option in their respective product lines.
  • At just $40, the Fire TV Stick is already one of the most affordable ways to stream all of your favorite content to any TV.
  • Despite how affordable the device already is, Amazon just kicked off a surprise sale on its site that slashes the price all the way down to $22.99 — but there’s a catch.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

There are so many different options out there for people who want to add a streaming media player to their TV. Even “smart TVs” with built-in apps almost always need a separate streaming media player, since proprietary smart TV platforms rarely support all the different streaming services people want to use. Sure you can stream movies and shows from big services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu, but what about all the other great services out there like Apple TV+, Disney+, and more? What about all the free streaming services we recently told you about? And what about upcoming new services like HBO Max?

All those services and more are available on devices like the Fire TV Stick from Amazon, and now is the perfect time to buy one if you’re a Prime member. Anyone else will have to pay the normal price of $40, though that’s already a pretty fantastic deal considering how much some rival devices cost. But if you subscribe to Amazon Prime, you can pick up a brand new Fire TV Stick right now for just $22.99! It’s a surprise sale that no one saw coming, and there’s no telling how long it’s going to last.

Fire TV Stick streaming media player with Alexa built in, includes Alexa Voice Remote, HD, easy…: $22.99

There’s no question that Amazon’s deal on the Fire TV Stick is the best streaming media player deal you’ll find anywhere on Wednesday, but as we said, it’s only available to Prime subscribers. And even if you do pay for Prime, what happens if you want a device that supports 4K resolution and HDR content?

The upgraded Fire TV Stick 4K isn’t included in Amazon’s surprise sale on Wednesday, but there is a way that anyone can save a few bucks on it. Amazon rarely has refurbished models in stock, but it just so happens that they’re available right now for $44.99 while supplies last. Remember, Amazon’s certified refurbished products are guaranteed to look and work like new or you can return them for a full refund.

Facebook fixed the bug that blocked genuine coronavirus pandemic articles

  • Facebook’s anti-misinformation measures for coronavirus news already backfired, with a bug in the system blocking genuine information from getting through.
  • Facebook acknowledged the issue, said the legitimate articles that were blocked before would be brought back, and fixed the issue.
  • Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube will continue to fight COVID-19 fake news during the pandemic.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg told The New York Times that his company will “take a much harder line” on coronavirus misinformation. If there’s anyone out there that should have an idea of how bad the fake news problem is on social networks, that’s Facebook. The company faced huge criticism following the 2016 presidential elections when armies of trolls spread misinformation that went viral. It turns out Zuckerberg really meant it when he said Facebook will have measures in place to combat coronavirus pandemic news, but those measures backfired spectacularly. A bug in the algorithm had an unexpected side-effect, blocking genuine articles from appearing on Facebook right alongside fake news.

PlayStation 5 is the ‘most exciting hardware in 20 years’

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Earlier this week, Microsoft scored another point in its console marketing war with Sony. After unveiling the Xbox Series X name and design in mid-December, and announcing most of the gaming rig’s specs in mid-February, Microsoft on Monday came out swinging with a flurry of announcements. Almost everything about the Series X was revealed, including details that were kept secret a month ago. We got the entire specs sheet and new Xbox demos that highlight some of the console’s key features. We learned the console will have an excellent feature to help with storage needs beyond the built-in 1TB super-fast SSD, and Microsoft revealed the new Wireless Controller in full.

We’ve been saying for weeks that Sony has to match Microsoft’s console announcements, and Sony, on Tuesday, finally announced the date for the full PS5 event. It’s on March 18th that PS5 to lead system architect Mark Cerny “will provide a deep dive into PS5’s system architecture, and how it will shape the future of games.”

Archaeologists have unearthed a bizarre monument built by ancient humans in Russia. It’s a large circular structure built using the bones of a creature that no living human has ever seen: a mammoth. The best part? Nobody has any idea what it was used for why it exists in the first place.

Other mammoth bone monuments have been found in Russia in the past, though this particular location has the others beat in terms of size. At a whopping 41 feet across, it’s quite large, but figuring out who made it and why are proving difficult.

We could all use some joy right now, so Jimmy Fallon is doing his show from home on YouTube

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Much of America is stuck at home right now, hunkering down in the wake of the continued spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus that’s wreaking havoc across the globe.
  • All of the late-night TV shows have halted their productions in favor of promoting social distancing, which experts have said is one of and maybe the only surefire way to get the spread of the virus under control.
  • Jimmy Fallon decided to start a YouTube version of his show, posting daily short episodes to YouTube that are shot by his wife and filmed at his home in New York. The first episode was posted on Tuesday.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The news has been pretty bleak these last few days, as the COVID-19 coronavirus continues to spur a once-in-a-generation crisis across the US and much of the rest of the world. So many of our public spaces are closing or drastically reducing their operations, while everyone hunkers down at home to ride out the spread of the deadly virus. If you pay too close attention to the news and to your Twitter feed, it can get easy to feel overwhelmed and a sense of helpless anxiety, which is why entertainers are starting to do what they can to spread a little good cheer at the moment. John Legend, for example, went live on Instagram Tuesday to perform an in-home concert.

All of the late-night TV hosts, meanwhile, have shuttered production of their respective shows as social distancing has become the order of the day, which is why Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday decided to debut a “home edition” of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He put a homespun, 10-minute version of the show together, complete with a “monologue” that basically consisted of dad-jokes, crude drawings from his kids, and a musical number in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

  • UEFA just announced that the Euro 2020 competition has been postponed to next summer over coronavirus concerns — Euro 2021 will take place during June 11-July 11, 2021.
  • The popular soccer competition is the latest sporting event to be postponed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The most important soccer competitions in Europe came to a halt over the past few weeks due to coronavirus fears, with many speculating this year’s Euro 2020 event would be delayed or even canceled. UEFA, the governing body over all soccer events, including the European Football Championship that takes over the continent and the world every four years, confirmed those fears on Tuesday.

Euro 2020 hasn’t been canceled, but it’s now postponed to 2021. It’s an unprecedented move for the sport and this particular competition and goes to show how severe the COVID-19 threat really is.

NASA needs your help to build a Moon digging robot

A new era of lunar exploration and science is about to begin, but in order for NASA to make the most of it, it has to have all the right technology ready to roll. One of the gadgets NASA wants to send to the Moon is a digging robot. The agency has already made plenty of progress on this front, building the RASSOR (Regolith Advanced Surface Systems Operations Robot) bot and testing various versions of its hardware.

But NASA can’t do it alone, and it has issued a call for help in designing one very important component of the RASSOR robot: its collection drum.

After calling coronavirus panic ‘dumb,’ Elon Musk now says it’s harmful in leaked memo

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Tesla CEO Elon Musk thinks the coronavirus panic is more harmful than the virus itself.
  • In a newly leaked memo to employees, Musk said that employees can opt to stay home if they’re slightly ill or uncomfortable at the prospect of contracting the virus.
  • Tesla’s Fremont factory will remain open as it has been deemed an “essential business.”
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

As the coronavirus continues to spread worldwide, a number of high-profile companies, from Apple to Nike, recently decided to close the majority of their stores to help limit the virus from spreading even further. What’s more, a number of major U.S. cities have enacted bans which essentially prevent bars, restaurants, and a number of other public establishments, from operating in any capacity. Without question, the coronavirus has impacted and will continue to impact the way most people go about their day-to-day lives. And underscoring the severity of the virus, it’s worth noting that the World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared the coronavirus a pandemic six days ago.

As the entire world continues to worry about the coronavirus, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, interestingly enough, remains convinced that the worldwide response to the coronavirus is a bit over the top.
