iPhone 11 Pro Max vs. Galaxy S20 Ultra speed test results are shocking
- Samsung’s top of the line Galaxy S20 Ultra packs 16GB of RAM and goes head to head with Apple’s flagship iPhone 11 Pro Max in an old-fashioned speed test.
- Apple’s top of the line iPhone typically trounces Android competitors, but the S20 Ultra delivers performance that can actually stand up to Apple’s industry-leading A13 Bionic processor.
- The Galaxy S20 Ultra just barely bests Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro Max, but the tides will undoubtedly shift once Apple releases the iPhone 12 later this year.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Given that the modern-day smartphone market is nearly 13 years old at this point, It’s a bit funny that we’re still conducting speed tests with the top smartphones on the market. After all, whether you’re a hardened Android user or partial to the iPhone, the reality is that any flagship you buy today offers up performance that was simply unheard of even a few years ago. Suffice it to say, it’s hard to imagine a scenario where someone plunks down money for a new iPhone or Android device and subsequently complains about sluggish performance.
Still, there can only be one king and, perhaps out of sheer curiosity alone, the public often demands to know which smartphone stands out above all the rest. In light of that, the PhoneBuff YouTube channel recently decided to pit an iPhone 11 Pro Max armed with Apple’s A13 Bionic against a Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra armed with a Snapdragon 865 from Qualcomm. It’s an old-fashioned speed test and we’re here to see which flagship takes the crown this year.

All eyes have been on Sony and Microsoft over the past several months as the two companies gear up to launch new home consoles this holiday season, but as quiet as Sony has been in regards to the PlayStation 5, we’ve heard even less from Nintendo about its Switch lineup for the rest of 2020. In fact, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which is out this Friday, is the last game published by Nintendo with a set release date this year.
It’s been over six months since the last Nintendo Direct livestream (not counting the Directs focused on Pokemon and Animal Crossing in January and February), but Nintendo finally emerged from the shadows on Tuesday for an all-new Indie World Showcase, with 20 minutes of information about indie games coming soon to the Switch. Below, we’ve rounded up every Switch game and release date revealed during the stream.

Now that we are officially in the midst of a worldwide pandemic, we have to start coming to terms with our new reality. For many of us, that means working from home, taking kids out of school, washing our hands and cleaning everything vigorously, and understanding that daily life will be disrupted for weeks and months to come.
Part of that disruption will directly affect countless workers all around the country and the world, as many businesses have no choice but to shut down their brick-and-mortar locations for the safety of the general populace. This will be a difficult storm for many of the stores to weather, especially if the federal government does not take drastic steps to assist, but it’s an important move to help ensure that the coronavirus spreads less rapidly.
You’ve probably heard about some of the closures via the news or on social media, but Business Insider put together a helpful list of every major US retailer that has closed its doors to help fight the coronavirus.

The coronavirus outbreak has no end in sight, and the situation is getting worse all the time. With each day that goes by, governments around the world announce new measures meant to curb the risk of infection, with social distancing being one of the top ways to protect the population. As a result, several events have been canceled in the past few weeks, including major trade shows and sporting events, but also movie premieres. Basically, gatherings of people are banned around the world, which makes it impossible to hold such events in the first place. Not that anyone in their right mind would want to attend them.
As a result, several industries have been hit, including the movie business. Some studios have already announced delays, just as theater chains revealed their theaters will stay closed for weeks to come. Following a series of rumors, Black Widow now joins the ranks of major blockbusters that have been delayed. The film is easily one of the most anticipated movies of the first half of 2020, as it’s the first title in Marvel’s next phase of superhero media.

Amazon’s Echo Show smart displays are up to $30 off right now
- The Echo started as a single smart smartphone that acted as a vessel for Amazon’s virtual personal assistant Alexa, but now it’s an ever-expanding line of all different sorts of products.
- Among the most popular are the new Echo Show 5 and Echo Show 8, which were both best-sellers last year ahead of the holidays.
- Amazon had only discounted them once so far in 2020, but now both models are back on sale for a limited time with discounts up to $30.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Remember when the Amazon Echo smart speaker first came out? A few people knew right away that it was going to be a hit, but most people just wondered why they would need access to a voice assistant at home when they could just use a smartphone, tablet, or computer instead. Once the Echo started selling, however, people quickly began to understand how great it was to have hands-free access to the virtual assistant known as Alexa.
Fast-forward to 2020 and it seems like anything and everything is compatible with Alexa. People can’t imagine life without being able to ask Alexa questions, place orders on Amazon using only their voices, and control all the smart home gadgets in and around their houses and apartments. If you’re still only using Echo smart speakers though, you’re missing out on a ton of awesome functionality. That’s why you need to get yourself an Echo Show smart display, and the two best models out there are both on sale right now for just the second time in 2020.
The Echo Show 5 is the most compact smart display Amazon makes, taking up barely any space on your counter, table, or desk. Then there’s the Echo Show 8 with a much larger screen that can fit even more content. With either one, you can ask Alexa to show you things like recipes, YouTube videos, and so much more. For example, if you have a Ring Video Doorbell you can even ask Alexa to show you who’s at the door. On top of that, they support all the great features that a normal Echo speaker would, such as the ability to answer your questions and control your smart home gadgets.
Echo Show 5 – Compact smart display with Alexa – Charcoal: $69.99
Amazon’s Echo Show 5 is on sale right now for $69.99 instead of $90, which is even cheaper than a certified refurbished model which happens to be the single best-selling Amazon device on the company’s entire site right now. If you want a bigger screen that can fit more content, you can also just snag the Echo Show 8 instead, which is on sale today for $99.99 instead of $130.

Apple’s stores around the world will be closed much longer than we thought
- Apple CEO Tim Cook sent out a letter over the weekend announcing that the company would close its stores until March 27 as a result of the continued spread of the coronavirus. “All of our hourly workers will continue to receive pay in alignment with business as usual operations,” Cook added in his original announcement, which was sent out in the early morning hours on Saturday.
- Now, however, it seems the company may be preparing to keep its stores closed for even longer than originally planned. A message at the top of Apple.com now reads that the company’s stores “are closed until further notice.”
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Apple CEO Tim Cook’s original announcement over the weekend was one more dramatic development that signaled how serious the coronavirus outbreak has gotten around the world. All Apple Stores outside of China, Cook declared, would immediately close for two weeks, reopening on March 27.
With news changing almost by the minute now as a result of the deadly virus’ spread, though, Apple seems to have made a subtle change to the wording around its store closures that now suggests the company is prepped for an even longer closure than originally planned: “Our retail stores,” reads a banner at the top of Apple.com, “are closed until further notice.”

We’re all probably going to get emergency cash from the Trump administration soon
- The Trump administration is considering another in a series of dramatic movies to combat the spread of the coronavirus: Giving all Americans emergency cash from the government.
- The US Treasury secretary signaled that the government is preparing to move on this issue very soon, as the economy continues to crater thanks to the shockwaves caused by the deadly virus.
- Meanwhile, the number of US cases of the coronavirus has shot up quickly over the past week, now surpassing 5,000. That’s a fivefold spike compared to where we were about a week ago.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Trump administration officials on Tuesday announced another in a series of escalating and dramatic steps to combat not only the spread of the coronavirus but to try and blunt the destructive impact it’s having on the US economy.
Per US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, the federal government is now all but promising to make good on what many people, including prominent political figures like Utah Republican Sen. Mitt Romney, to send out emergency checks to all Americans as a kind of emergency financial stimulus. Romney himself has proposed the idea of giving every American $1,000, and while there’s been no indication of the size of the amount yet, Mnuchin today signaled the Trump administration is on board with the idea and what’s to get it done soon.

Researchers discovered how the body kills the coronavirus
- Research from Australia determined that the immune system’s response to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that causes the COVID-19 disease is similar to a reaction to the flu in mild-to-moderate cases.
- Their findings can be used to accelerate the development of a vaccine and treatments, as well as novel tests that might be able to determine the severity of a coronavirus infection from the onset.
- The research proves the human body can become immune to the virus, but it’s still not clear how long the immunity lasts.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The coronavirus pandemic is far from being contained, with countries all over the world reporting more and more cases. It’s up to everyone to step up and do their part to flatten the curve — social distancing and handwashing will help do the trick — so that medical systems around the world aren’t overwhelmed. Doctors need time to treat severe cases while some of their peers attempt to develop vaccines or new drugs that will speed up the healing process. The good news for people who catch the new COVID-19 virus is that most people will recover, and that’s because of the body’s immune system. Researchers in Australia have already figured out how the body kills the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and their early results will help others develop new treatments that could extend immunity, and maybe even eradicate the disease.

This is the Xbox Series X’s most exciting innovation
- Xbox Series X’s specs include fast SSD storage thanks to a 1TB custom NVME solid-state drive that offers better performance than most laptop SSDs.
- Given the increasingly larger size of new games, 1TB might not be enough for many gamers so Microsoft is offering buyers two ways to expand storage.
- The Expansion Card is easily one of the Series X’s highlights, given that it’s an external SSD that can match the performance of the built-in disk.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Microsoft on Monday surprised Xbox fans for the third time in a matter of months with a massive Xbox Series X announcement. And unlike in mid-February, when certain key specs were left out of Microsoft’s announcement, the company has now revealed almost everything there is to know about its 2020 console. All we need now is an actual release date and a price, and the Xbox Series X is good to go. The coronavirus pandemic is expected to hurt the actual launch though, and we could see delays or at least stock shortages, of course. Now that we know all of the Series X’s secrets, we can safely say that one of the most exciting new Xbox innovation is a device we didn’t see coming, and it’s probably not what you think.
