As the threat of coronavirus looms and virtually every major event has been canceled or suspended, there has never been a better time to hunker down at home and catch up on the shows and movies you’ve been meaning to watch. I’ll admit that as I scrolled through Netflix last night, everything began to look far more interesting than it did when I could go outside. And as is always the case with Netflix, there’s even more content hitting the streaming service this week, including a few returning favorites and some major, award-winning blockbuster movies.

None of the all-time Netflix series are coming back this week, but if you’re an Altered Carbon fan, you might want to check out the Resleeved anime, which sees Takeshi Kovacs going on a much different adventure than what we saw in the live-action series. There’s also a brand new show called The Letter for the King, and although it’s targeted at a younger audience, the trailer looks great. It can’t be worse than Game of Thrones season 8, anyway.

PS5 and Xbox Series X releases likely to be delayed

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are two of the most anticipated products of the year, next-gen console upgrades that have been seven years in the making.
  • Expected to be released this holiday season, the PS5 and new Xbox might be delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
  • The worldwide response to the COVID-19 outbreak will have a tremendous impact on the economy in the coming months, and the production of non-essential goods, like the 2020 consoles, might suffer as well.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X are expected to be released ahead of the holidays this year, according to Sony and Microsoft’s official announcements. However, those tentative launch windows haven’t been updated since before the novel coronavirus outbreak started in China, and the actual launches of the PS5 and Xbox Series X may be severely affected by the pandemic. As the outbreak crippled China earlier this year, several reports emerged revealing that factory closures might hurt the production of several popular products, including the latest iPhones and the Nintendo Switch consoles. Analysts said that the PS5 and Xbox launches may see delays and stock issues as a result.

Sony and Microsoft partner AMD recently suggested that both consoles will be released on schedule, and that may still be accurate. Both companies could always go forward with announcements, and they may still ship the PS5 and Xbox on time. But don’t expect a smooth launch for either video game console given what’s happening around the world right now.

Coronavirus infection may be worsened by a common household drug

  • France, one of the European countries seeing the biggest surge in novel coronavirus cases in the past few weeks, has taken additional measures to increase social distancing in an effort to curb the rate of COVID-19 infections.
  • Doctors treating coronavirus cases have suggested that using a particular type of anti-inflammatory drug sold without a prescription can aggravate the illness in patients who are treating the symptoms of an undiagnosed COVID-19 infection.
  • France is urging its citizens to use paracetamol (Tylenol, etc.) to treat fever rather than Ibuprofen (Advil, etc.) and to seek medical guidance if they’re already on NSAIDs.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

France is one of the top four European countries battling the novel coronavirus outbreak, with Italy, Spain, and Germany leading the pack — there are more than 37,000 confirmed cases between them, of which more than 1,700 have been fatal. France has reported nearly 4,500 cases so far, with the death toll sitting at 79.

The French government on Saturday announced more restrictions meant to increase social distancing. Schools were closed on Thursday. Now, restaurants, movie theaters, shops, tourist attractions, and other non-essential stores are shuttered. French health officials also made a stunning discovery as they’ve been battling the local epidemic: Common drugs you have around the house may worsen your condition if you have an unconfirmed COVID-19 infection.

YouTube’s app just got a big change that you might have missed

  • Google made a huge change to the YouTube app’s user interface meant to address criticism from some independent content creators.
  • The Trending section is now called Explore and features a Trending menu of its own. If you haven’t been using it before, chances are you won’t even notice the menu alteration.
  • The move is meant to make content discovery easier and help creators get noticed easier than before.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Google this week made a huge change to the user interface of its mobile app for Android and iPhone, but the move won’t really affect your experience. Some people might not even notice that the Trending tab on the bottom — that’s the second menu button from the left — morphed into a tab that’s called Explore. If you did spot the change on Thursday when Google started rolling it out, you’ve probably figured out that you can still find trending videos, if that’s what you’re using the mobile YouTube app for every day.

A JetBlue passenger who flew with the coronavirus got slapped with a lifetime ban

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • We are going to see a lot more of this kind of thing in the coming days, as the US and the rest of the world continues coming to grips with the spread of the coronavirus: JetBlue has given a lifetime ban to a passenger who flew with the virus.
  • An important caveat: The passenger did not know about the diagnosis before takeoff. The passenger got a text confirming a positive diagnosis while in-flight and notified the crew once the plane landed.
  • Social distancing remains the two-word mantra that officials keep repeating as the US tries to “flatten the curve” of the coronavirus outbreak. Meantime, expect to see more of this kind of thing around the ethics of the disease. Twitter is also full of instances right now of people desperately trying not to cough in public or sneeze, for fear of bringing down the swift wrath on themselves from everyone around them.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Imagine this scenario: In just a few moments from now, you’re about to get into an Uber or a cab. You’re not feeling well, and — just for the sake of argument, because, hopefully, you all are practicing good hygiene and staying safe — you think you might have the coronavirus. In fact, you’ve already been tested and are waiting to get the results back before you know for sure.

Do you proactively tell the driver? “Hey man, by the way, just so you know …”

This exact scenario played out earlier this week. Instead of a cab ride, though, it was a JetBlue flight. A passenger, according to news reports, wasn’t feeling well and took a coronavirus test before boarding a flight. He boarded the flight (while not knowing the results). This passenger got a text during the flight informing him that the diagnosis was positive.

Astronomers spot 139 new ‘minor planets’ in our own solar system

  • Astronomers spotted 139 new objects in our solar system in orbit beyond Neptune.
  • Many of these new trans-Neptunian objects reside in the same area of our system that Pluto does, but some are much further away from the Sun.
  • The new discoveries make up 10 percent of confirmed trans-Neptunian objects on record.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

A massive treasure trove of newly-discovered solar system objects was just revealed by astronomers in a new research paper published in The Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series. The team of researchers from the University of Pennsylvania made their discoveries using observations from the Dark Energy Survey, or DES, a six-year project that led to the detection of over 300 objects lurking beyond Neptune.

Of those hundreds of detected objects, 139 of them are new to science. The data that the team had to comb through included millions of possible objects that were detected during the survey. By cross-referencing scans and cataloging the objects that wee consistently observable, the team was able to determine which parts of the data revealed actual trans-Neptunian objects, or TNOs.

Google’s newest Chrome feature is geared towards power users

  • Google constantly adds new features to its popular Chrome browser that make it more attractive to both average users and power users.
  • Google’s latest Chrome addition allows users to make the browser open in Guest mode by default.
  • You can read the instructions for turning on Chrome’s “Default to Guest mode” feature below.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

It seems like every week Google brings a useful and intuitive new feature to one of its many apps and services, and this week is no different. On Wednesday, Craig Tumblison, Chrome Support Manager, revealed a brand new feature that might not serve a purpose for the average user, but could be incredibly helpful for enterprise administrators and power users who want to turn Google’s Chrome browser into a blank slate every time it’s opened.

As of this week, Google has introduced a new feature called Default to Guest mode for Chrome Desktop. As the name suggests, this new feature will allow users to configure Chrome so that it always opens in Guest mode, which provides a stateless browsing experience where the user can’t see or change another Chrome profile’s information and all of the browsing history is deleted as soon as the browsing session ends.

‘Black Widow’ and all the new trailers you need to watch

  • Several blockbusters have already been delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic, including No Time to Die, Fast and Furious 9, Mulan, The New Mutants, and A Quiet Place Part II.
  • Watching movies in theaters isn’t advised right now, as the number of infections has been surging in several countries, including all of Europe and the US.
  • Several trailers for upcoming attractions have been released this week, but some of the movies they promote might end up being delayed as well. Black Widow might be one of them, according to rumors.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

No Time to Die, Fast and Furious 9, Mulan, The New Mutants, and A Quiet Place Part II are just a few of the blockbuster movies that were delayed because of the coronavirus, and we’re just getting started. Depending on how the world deals with COVID-19 in the coming weeks, we might see more film delays.

It’s not just because these companies want to make money at the box office, but also because gatherings of people aren’t advised right now. That’s the best way to prevent infection — that, and washing your hands often. Even Black Widow is rumored to be delayed, and if Disney goes through with it, it’ll be forced to delay other MCU titles as well.
