Google just banned an Indian app that helps remove Chinese apps from your phone
- Remove China Apps, a popular app made in India was just pulled from the Google Play Store for violating Google’s Deceptive Behavior Policy.
- The move is the latest episode in the escalating China vs. India conflict that included skirmishes at the Himalayan border a few weeks ago.
- The novel coronavirus health crises also helped increase tensions between the two most populous countries in the world.
The bizarreness of 2020 continues with a new episode in the ongoing China vs. India conflict that’s been exacerbated but the novel coronavirus pandemic. The two nations found themselves at odds again in the heights of Himalaya in early May, where soldiers on both sides fought each other using rocks and wooden clubs as weapons. No shots were fired, but there were injuries on both sides, just as more troops were brought in to reinforce the mountainous border that’s seen numerous similar fights in the past years. Tensions escalated against the backdrop of COVID-19 and might worsen. The battle isn’t only fought with clubs in the Himalayans. Indian and Chinese smartphone users and app makers have been having a fight of their own in recent weeks, including the TikTok protest and, more recently, the Remove China Apps (RCA) controversy. Google was forced to act in both accounts, removing negative reviews for TikTok a few days ago. Now, Google pulled the RCA app from Google Play for violating its Deceptive Behavior Policy.

Insider says Marvel and Sony are working on a new Spider-Man deal
- Will Marvel movies beyond Spider-Man 3 and a future Avengers film feature Peter Parker? An MCU insider has good news for fans wondering about Spidey’s future.
- The current Sony-Disney deal covers two MCU movies, several reports said last summer, when the companies announced a new partnership.
- But a new Sony-Disney deal might be in the works, according to a person who revealed several Endgame plot details long before the film’s premiere last year.
Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, theaters have not been allowed to operate, and it will be a while until moviegoers are ready to risk exposure to COVID-19 in a packed room. On top of that, production for several movies and TV shows was stopped indefinitely to prevent infections.
One of the companies most affected by lockdowns and travel bans is Disney, and many of its revenue streams are now on pause. Marvel is one of Disney’s big money makers, and the health crisis impacted its plans severely. All the upcoming MCU Phase 4 films were postponed, as Disney doesn’t want to squander potential profits by launching movies like Black Widow on Disney+. Some of the Marvel TV series set to hit the streaming service might still be on track for a late 2020 release, but they could also be impacted by the movie delays. After all, everything has to happen in a specific order in the MCU. It’s not all bad news for Marvel, though, especially if this following rumor is to be believed. Apparently, Disney and Sony are close to solving their Spider-Man problem once and for all.

Scientists found the cleanest air on Earth, and it’s nowhere near you
- Scientists found the cleanest air on Earth, and it’s far away from any human activity.
- Researchers sampled air over the Southern Ocean which surrounds Antarctica, finding it to be free of traces of human chemicals or waste.
- The remote location contributes to the air remaining clean for as long as it has.
You might think that stepping out of your front door every morning and swallowing a couple of lungfuls of fresh morning air is just about as good as it can get — especially during the pandemic. Sure, it’s refreshing, but according to scientists from Colorado State University, the cleanest air on Earth is nowhere near your house or any area where humans have settled down.
The research, which was published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, reveals that the Southern Ocean around Antarctica is really where it’s at if you want some seriously fresh air. Thanks to some quirks of the global climate and weather patterns, the clouds over the Southern Ocean are pristine.

Looters find that iPhones stolen from Apple Stores are bricked
- Looters over the past few days have hit a number of Apple retail stores.
- iPhones and iPads stolen from Apple Stores have a kill-switch and are essentially bricked once leaving Apple’s Wi-Fi network.
The senseless killing of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police has sparked a wave of nationwide protests against racial inequality and police violence. In the wake of these protests, some cities have experienced a rash of looting and vandalism. Incidentally, there’s been a decent amount of evidence which suggests that much of the looting has been spurred on by opportunists looking to score free stuff and stir up trouble as opposed to peaceful protestors.
Amidst all the turmoil, some Apple retail stores over the past few days have been targeted and hit by looters. Some of the impacted locations include retail stores in New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia. What’s worth noting, however, is that looters who manage to abscond with items like stolen iPhones and iPads quickly find out that their haul is worth next to nothing.

- Apple will introduce iOS 14 at WWDC on June 22.
- Some recently unearthed iOS 14 features include a new translator tool and enhanced Apple Pencil support.
- WWDC 2020 will be an online-only event on account of the coronavirus.
When Apple unveils iOS 14 at WWDC later this month, the company’s next-gen mobile operating system will include a new translator tool along with enhanced Apple Pencil functionality. The news comes courtesy of 9to5Mac which, according to previous reports, got its hands on an early developmental build of iOS 14 a few months back.

Fascinating study reveals which country has the best Netflix content
- June will add plenty of new additions to the already long list of titles on Netflix.
- In all, Netflix is adding 46 original movies and shows this month.
- One study has attempted to quantify which part of the world has the best Netflix catalog.
June is going to be another typically huge month for Netflix on the original movie front, with the streamer having teed up new Netflix original films from superstars like Spike Lee and Will Ferrell. As a matter of fact, in all, Netflix is releasing 46 original movies and shows this month, a typically jam-packed month for the service that also doesn’t take into account the massive amount of licensed content available to Netflix subscribers — in addition to previously released Netflix original shows and movies.
We faithfully cover Netflix’s cadence of new releases, in addition to the titles people are most looking forward to (as well as what they end up watching the most of once it actually debuts). Meanwhile, here’s a fun exercise that poses an intriguing question, based on Netflix’s sprawling global user base that touches pretty much every major country in the world: We keep getting this slew of content week-in, week-out, but is there someplace in the world that actually has the best Netflix content? The “best” encompassing both the highest volume as well as the highest-quality content on the service?

Leak reveals Google’s Android TV streaming device and its remote
- Google is reportedly developing a video streaming device that will ship with a dedicated remote and Android TV software, unlike the Chromecast devices.
- A new leak has revealed the design of the Android TV streamer, codenamed Sabrina.
- We also got a glimpse of the new UI and the remote that Google is designing.
While Roku, Apple, and Amazon have released dongles for streaming video with their own built-in user interfaces and operating systems, Google has been content to let people pair their phones, tablets, and computers with Chromecast devices that lack a UI of their own. After all these years, it looks like Google is finally ready to compete more directly with those rivals, and a new leak has given us our best look yet at the unannounced device.
For some time now, we have been hearing rumors about a streaming device being developed by Google that would ship with a remote and Android TV software onboard. On Tuesday, XDA Developers shared purported renders of the dongle, which is codenamed Sabrina, has an oblong shape, and will ship in white, black, and pink.

Blood bank offers free coronavirus antibody testing for blood donors
- A national blood bank is offering blood donors free coronavirus antibody testing.
- The test will inform donors if they were exposed to the coronavirus at some point, even if they never showed any symptoms.
- Blood with coronavirus antibodies is being used for research to help come up with an effective COVID-19 treatment.
In an effort to encourage volunteers to donate blood, Vitalant — a non-profit organization that helps distributes blood to hospitals — said that it will start informing blood donors if they have coronavirus antibodies. The antibody test Vitalant is using has already been approved by the FDA and will help individuals determine if they were exposed to the coronavirus, regardless of whether or not they ever exhibited symptoms.
The impetus for the program is that blood for various surgeries and medical treatment plans is in short supply because blood drives have effectively been on hiatus on account of COVID-19.
