Huawei’s next flagship phone might have the same problem as the Galaxy S20
- The Huawei P40 launch event will go forward on March 26, although the Chinese smartphone vendor will unveil the phone via an online-only presentation because of the coronavirus outbreak.
- The new phones will likely launch in Europe in the weeks following the event, with the P40 Pro model being Huawei’s best answer to Samsung’s Galaxy S20 Ultra.
- A new rumor from China claims that the P40 series might be even more expensive than previous flagships, in spite of the phone’s huge software problem — the P40 will not have any Google apps preinstalled.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
There was no Mobile World Congress event this year, as coronavirus prompted its sudden cancelation last month. But several smartphone makers have unveiled plenty of new devices in the past few weeks, including several interesting Galaxy S20 challengers from Sony, LG, Oppo, and Vivo. Samsung can be considered the unexpected winner of these extraordinary circumstances, having scheduled its Galaxy S20 event a few weeks before MWC was canceled.
But the most significant Android-based Galaxy S20 rival wasn’t even expected at the trade show. We’re talking about the Huawei P40, which should have been unveiled during a press conference in Paris, France, on March 26th. But the COVID-19 outbreak changed that. The reveal event will still happen on the same day, but Huawei will deliver its keynote online, where it will be streamed on YouTube and other social networks instead. And a brand new rumor suggests the Huawei P40 might have the same problem as the Galaxy S20.

NASA employee tests positive for coronavirus, prompting lockdown
- A NASA employee at the Ames Research Center in California tested positive for coronavirus.
- NASA has issued a mandatory work-from-home policy for all employees of the facility.
- The space agency will continue to monitor employees for symptoms to track the potential spread of the infection.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
With new coronavirus cases popping up with troubling regularity across the United States, it was really only a matter of time before someone at NASA came down with the virus. That person happens to be an employee at the Ames Researcher Center in Silicon Valley, and the positive diagnosis has prompted NASA to take appropriate measures to keep its staff safe.
The agency issued a mandatory work-from-home policy for employees of the facility for the time being. Right now, the top priority for the research center is to determine whether or not anyone else may have been exposed to the virus, and ensure that those individuals remain home to prevent the continued spread of the illness.

Even a coronavirus conference has now been canceled because of coronavirus
- The World Health Organization on Wednesday finally declared the novel coronavirus a global pandemic. The COVID-19 virus has infected more than 100,000 people around the world, and it’s now affecting everything from small businesses to big tech giants like Apple and Google that are telling employees to work from home — to even political rallies, since we’re in a presidential election year, after all.
- Ironically, a conference on the virus was set to have been held in New York this week. The Council on Foreign Relations had planned a roundtable on “Doing Business Under Coronavirus” — a conference about the virus that the virus is now responsible for canceling.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The coronavirus is continuing to drive relentless news coverage around the world and here at home in the US, where the virus is now the reason that scores of events have been canceled, the music festival Coachella and the E3 gaming conference being among the latest. Meanwhile, corporate giants like Google and Apple are encouraging as many employees as possible to work from home, and small businesses are also taking their own precautions. I just got back from a vacation to Charleston, and my favorite restaurant there is now scheduling an extra employee each shift whose sole task will be to disinfect the restaurant and make sure things stay clean. In light of all this and more, including the scores of deaths around the world, the World Health Organization on Wednesday finally declared the virus a pandemic.
Meantime, The Daily Beast has shed light on a sobering private briefing that members of Congress were given in recent days about COVID-19, the official name of the coronavirus (which has killed at least two dozen Americans as of the time of this writing). Most Americans, congressional leaders were told, are going to be exposed to this thing eventually, even though many people won’t show symptoms or be infected. Indeed, the influence of the virus is proving to be inexorable and seemingly impossible to contain — and it’s even having ironic consequences. To wit: Even a coronavirus conference that was supposed to have taken place this week in New York has been shelved because of, what else, the virus.

Microsoft Edge may be fast, but it has some glaring privacy issues
- Microsoft released a revamped Edge browser last month as it looks to take some users away from Google Chrome.
- Early benchmarks of Microsoft Edge found the new browser was quite impressive with respect to overall performance.
- A new security study, however, finds that Microsoft Edge may have some glaring privacy issues.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
In a testament to how fast the landscape in technology can shift, there was a time — though it feels like ancient history now — when Microsoft’s Internet Explorer was the most popular web browser in the world. Internet Explorer, however, would soon see its share of the market shrink drastically as Google Chrome — which was released in 2008 — started to pick up steam.
Fast forward to 2020 and Google’s Chrome browser is without question the leading web browser. As of last month, Chrome held a 67% browser market share. Meanwhile, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Edge have 9%, 7.4%, and 5.6% of the browser market, respectively.

One of the most exciting MCU Phase 4 TV series finally has a launch window
- Marvel’s MCU Phase 4 includes 10 TV series that will hit Disney+ by the end of 2021, and they’ll be directly connected to the six movies announced for the same period.
- Loki is easily the most exciting Marvel TV show so far, given what happened with the character in Infinity War and Endgame, and Disney just revealed launch details for the series.
- The show will premiere on Disney+ in early 2021, Bob Iger said, without committing to an actual release date.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Disney has a few aces up its sleeve to keep people subscribed to its streaming service, and Marvel happens to be one of the best of them. Marvel has announced 14 titles for the fourth phase of its Cinematic Universe, and only six are movies. Everything else will hit Disney+ starting this August with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
While Falcon will pick up the action right after Avengers: Endgame, it’s hardly the most exciting of the upcoming Marvel TV shows. That award goes to Loki for several reasons — and Disney just confirmed that the God of Mischief is coming to its streaming service roughly a year from now.

Uber will suspend riders and drivers exposed to coronavirus
- Uber announced that it will temporarily suspend accounts of riders and drivers who have been infected with COVID-19 or are at risk of being infected.
- Uber will provide financial assistance to drivers and delivery people who are asked to self-isolate.
- You can visit Uber’s coronavirus hub on its website to learn more.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
As the infection rates of COVID-19 spike around the globe, private businesses are starting to take the outbreak more seriously. For example, on Wednesday morning, Uber updated its website and sent emails to users in order to inform them about the measures it is taking to keep people safe. Those measures include the temporary suspension of “the accounts of riders or drivers confirmed to have contracted or been exposed to COVID-19.”
This may sound drastic, but think about just how quickly an infected driver could spark an outbreak. Being locked up in a tight space for an extended period of time with someone who has contracted COVID-19 and then jumping out of the car to head into a crowded restaurant or bar sounds like possibly the most effective way to spread the virus, and so it’s no surprise that Uber is doing what it can to be part of the solution rather than the problem.

Everything Apple has done so far to combat the coronavirus pandemic
- The coronavirus continues to spread across the globe as W.H.O. is now calling it a global pandemic.
- The coronavirus has impacted Apple’s business in many ways, including a slowdown in iPhone sales and the cancellation of an upcoming special event in March where Apple was set to introduce the iPhone 9, new iPad Pro models, and more.
- WWDC is still on as scheduled for June, but Apple may cancel the event if the coronavirus continues to spread in the coming weeks.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
As the coronavirus continues to spread all across the globe, it almost seems that we’re on the verge of a full-blown global panic. In addition to consumers making a run on items like hand sanitizer and toilet paper, any number of large conferences and other events that typically attract large groups of people have been cancelled. In addition to tech conferences and expos like MWC and Google’s I/O being cancelled, we’ve even seen some cities like Boston and Chicago cancel their iconic St. Patrick’s Day Parades.
In light of the above, it wouldn’t be surprising in the slightest to see Apple cancel WWDC this year. In the interim, though, Apple has certainly been impacted by the coronavirus in a number of other ways.

Top 10 shows everyone is binge-watching this week on Netflix and TV (March 2020, week 2)
- This week’s list of the top 10 TV series everyone is binge-watching has a few key surprises along with several shows in the top 10 that won’t surprise anyone.
- Netflix is once again the best-represented platform on the list with four out of the top 10 titles, including I Am Not Okay With This in the #1 spot for the second consecutive week.
- The CW’s Riverdale rocketed up the chart from #9 last week to #2 this week, and the original Netflix series Locke & Key has made the top 10 list yet again for the fourth consecutive week since debuting more than a month ago on February 7th.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Are teens taking over Netflix? Hardly, but there’s a ton of great content right now that falls squarely in the young adult (YA) category. That said, we’re not talking about the type of YA shows that networks like CW have become known for, with low-budget special effects and writing that can often border on being laughable. We’re talking about high-quality, gripping series that have captured the minds of millions upon millions of viewers spanning all ages.
Of the four different Netflix original titles that managed to make this week’s list of the top 10 most binge-watched shows on TV and streaming services this week, two of them fall squarely into the teen category. The first is Locke & Key, which is now enjoying its fourth consecutive week as one of the most binged shows in America. It’s the thrilling story of three Locke siblings who move with their mother to their father’s family home across the country following his untimely death. The children soon discover that their new home, dubbed “Key House” by locals, is filled with magic keys that unlock all manner of magical capabilities. They also discover that they’re not the only ones in search of the keys.

There’s one original Avenger whose fate is unclear after Endgame – now we know he’ll be back
- Marvel’s MCU Phase 4 will deliver new stories featuring new and existing characters from Marvel comics.
- Some of the original Avengers will be replaced by other superheroes as soon as Phase 4, so new characters will continue to appear in upcoming MCU adventures.
- A new report says that Mark Ruffalo has already agreed to appear in an MCU Phase 4 TV series, reprising the Hulk role he played for the better part of the past decade.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The first Marvel Cinematic Universe film of Phase 4 hits theaters in a few weeks, and it’s going to be an MCU adventure of the prequel variety. Black Widow is almost an origin story for Natasha Romanoff, with most of the action happening between 2016 and 2018, therefore at least five years before the events of Avengers: Endgame. This isn’t the first time we get a prequel story in the MCU, but Black Widow will be the first such film for a hero who is already dead. Nat sacrificed her life in Endgame in exchange for the Soul Stone, and there’s little hope of seeing her beyond 2023. Endgame also robbed us of two other Avengers from the original six, including Iron Man, who died, and Captain America, who retired. The MCU Phase 4’s upcoming TV series and films are also supposed to retire Hawkeye and Thor, which leaves just one original Avenger whose fate is still up in the air in the aftermath of Endgame.
