The Super Bowl is on Sunday and, unlike the majority of my fellow Americans, I will be rooting for the New England Patriots. As a native Bostonian, the Patriots are in my blood, although I fully admit that if I weren’t from New England I would probably hate them as much as the rest of the country does.

Apple had a record Christmas quarter after crushing all expectations and setting a new world record for the most profitable quarter ever in the history of any company. While iPhone sales — specifically the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus versions — brought in a significant chunk of revenue and profit, Apple also sold plenty of iPads and Macs during the period. In fact, the company keeps selling lots of OS X computers each quarter, with Apple constantly tweaking their design and performance.

Now James Tyrwhitt-Drake has given us yet another jewel in the form of NASA footage that’s been edited into a timelapse movie that shows the Earth in infrared light and really gives you a good view of how water vapor moves in its atmosphere.

Why the hell are Scandinavians insanely good at making addictive mobile games?
It used to be that Scandinavians had a reputation for being fierce viking warriors — now the only time most of them dress up with horned helmets and bear pelts is if they’re LARPing or playing Skyrim. Google Earth’s premium features are now free for everyone
Google Earth probably isn’t your go-to Google app on a day-to-day basis, but it’s a fun tool to mess with when you want to explore a foreign country or take a virtual road trip across the Midwest. What you might not know is that Google has maintained a premium version of the app called Google Earth Pro for years, but as of today, the paid features are now free for everyone.

Comcast just got a major ego boost from the FCC
On Thursday, the Federal Communications Commission voted in favor of a new standard for broadband Internet. From now on, anything less than 25Mbps downstream and 1Mbps upstream is no longer considered broadband — but there has been one unexpected (and perhaps unwanted) victor as result.
As of January 29th, Comcast’s broadband market share is now greater than 50%.

OnePlus One to ditch its old Android OS for a fresh breath of Oxygen
Android fans were certainly excited to hear that one of the most interesting flagship handsets of 2014 ran one of the most popular custom Android ROMs out of the box, but the partnership between OnePlus and Cyanogen doesn’t seem to be working out anymore. The OnePlus One maker has decided to build its own Android-based operating system for its phones, and on Friday it announced the official name for the new OS: OxygenOS.

Prepare for the Battlefield Hardline open beta with this 5-minute video
Many of the year’s most anticipated games won’t start dropping for another couple of months, but in this console generation, we don’t have to wait for release dates to try out new games. Starting on February 3rd, EA and Visceral Games will launch an open beta for Battlefield Hardline, allowing players to see everything they’ve tweaked since the last beta about seven months ago.
