The coronavirus is here to stay for a while longer, now that several hot zones have been established out of China. The past two weeks saw an abrupt increase in new cases in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and even the US, and it might not slow down anytime soon. Italy is the best example of what the COVID-19 epidemic can do. The country went from 0 to nearly 10,000 cases in just over two weeks, and it’s now under lockdown, with northern Italy having been quarantined over the weekend. Things aren’t as bad in other countries, but we’re not out of the woods. Everyone should play their part when it comes to fighting this disease, by avoiding crowded events and traveling to high-risk countries, employing good personal hygiene measures, and stay in isolation whenever that’s necessary. If you’re healthy, you still need to go to work if working from home isn’t a possibility, and you still need to go out for food and supplies. Thankfully, technology can help with planning your fight against the virus, and Google Maps is one of the apps that could provide additional assistance.

What happens with your iPhone during the coronavirus epidemic?
- The coronavirus outbreak is bad news, but standard hygiene measures will reduce the risk of infection — that includes cleaning your iPhone, and other portable electronics.
- Official iPhone cleaning instructions already exist, and they apply to other Apple products and other electronics.
- The Covid-19 epidemic has also impacted the iPhone supply chain, which means repairs and replacements might take longer than usual, according to a new leak.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The coronavirus epidemic might be slowing down in China, where it all started a few months ago, but it’s really just beginning everywhere else. Italy is the best example of things going wrong when it comes to Covid-19 infections. In just over two weeks, Italy reached over 9,100 infections, and 463 deaths, according to recent numbers. The government initially quarantined the north of the country and then locked the entirety of Italy down. In other words, there’s still no reason to panic, as it looks like the coronavirus won’t go away soon, and might become a seasonal flu-like disease to be aware of. But you should still make sure you take some protections to reduce the risk of catching and transmitting Covid-19. Increased awareness of personal hygiene is something that can help a great deal with preventing infections. You should wash your hands correctly as often as possible, use hand sanitizer, and avoid touching your face — you must have heard this advice everywhere. But you know what else you should do? Clean your phone too.

Reggie Fils-Aime made people fall in love with Nintendo. Can he do it again at GameStop?
- GameStop announced something of a Hail Mary play late Monday — the addition of some retail industry heavyweights to its board of directors, including former Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aimé.
- Fils-Aimé led Nintendo during a time of dramatic change throughout the gaming industry, and he did it quite well. Under his leadership, the company’s revenue quadrupled from 2005 to 2010. He launched products that defined big moments in the industry, from the Nintendo DS to the WII, 3DS, and the Nintendo Switch.
- Some of those products helped people who wouldn’t have otherwise considered themselves gamers become fans of and quite attached to the Nintendo brand. The thinking is that perhaps he can bring those same skills to the ongoing turnaround effort at GameStop.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
GameStop’s business has fallen off a cliff over the past year or so, with the video game retail chain facing considerable challenges not unlike those seen elsewhere across the retail landscape — like at bookstores, which got hollowed out by Amazon and e-readers. The thing that’s killing both of those is really the power of convenience, with digital distribution pretty much rendering a trip to a physical location of any kind of retail operation mostly obsolete now. That’s why when you visit your local Barnes & Noble, for example, what do you see — a massive selection of books, yes, but also everything from vinyl to bottled water to all kinds of other tchotchkes like desktop calendars and other pointless crap that the store is hoping, if you won’t walk out having spent money on a book, maybe we can at least pry some money out of your wallet some other way. It can leave the smell of desperation wafting from a retailer, and GameStop has been pursuing its own version of this same approach as customer traffic to its physical stores drops off and people do more gaming online.
Up to this point, GameStop has been throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks (and almost nothing has). When you visit a location, you’re often accosted about pre-ordering the latest hit game. Used titles have famously been marked up so much it leaves a bad taste in many shoppers mouths, and when you couple all that with the length of time it’s been since new consoles have launched and driven a wave of new business, the chain is in something of a vicious downward spiral right now. Which brings us to Monday, and specifically to some new additions GameStop announced to its board of directors.

No, cocaine doesn’t cure coronavirus, you big dummy
- A bizarre rumor that cocaine can cure or prevent a coronavirus infection began to gain traction online.
- The false claims were accompanied by fake news stories, further fueling the spread.
- Eventually, the rumor gained enough momentum that French officials had to address it, explaining that the claims were indeed false.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Coronavirus infection COVID-19 has no available vaccine or cure. Like the flu, once you have it, managing symptoms is the best thing you can do. However, that hasn’t stopped some from falsely claiming to know the “cure” for the infection and taking to social media to spread false claims. One particularly odd claim recently gained enough attention that it forced authorities in France to address it.
As Business Insider notes, the claim that cocaine could cure a person of a COVID-19 infection was shot down by the French government. As strange as it seems, the alleged “cure” gained a lot of traction on sites like Twitter, with images of fake or Photoshopped news reports tallying many thousands of likes and comments.

Amazon Prime Video is available free of charge in Italy’s quarantined coronavirus hot zones
- Italy is one of the four major coronavirus hot zones in addition to China, Iran, and South Korea, and the government decided to quarantine parts of Northern Italy to prevent further infections.
- More than 16 million people will be stopped from traveling, although thousands have escaped the quarantine fleeing to neighboring counties or the southern provinces.
- Those forced to stay indoors for the following weeks will be able to access Amazon Prime Video free of charge on their devices.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
With 366 dead out of the nearly 7,400 infected, Italy is one of the worst places to be when it comes to avoiding the coronavirus infection. The northern part of the country has been hit the hardest, and it all started some two weeks ago when the first cases were reported in the region.
The number of infections surged rapidly, and it got worse with each passing day. The Italian hot zone likely contributed to the spread of the disease in central Europe, with neighboring countries reporting increased coronavirus figures in the days that followed the outbreak in Italy. The country on Sunday shut down Northern Lombardy, including Milan and 14 nearby provinces, with the quarantine set to stay in place until April 3rd.
UPDATE: Since the writing of this article, the entire country of Italy has been put on lockdown.

Big Tesla Model Y leak reveals key specs
- Tesla’s Model Y is set to be a crossover version of Tesla’s popular Model 3.
- The dimensions for Tesla’s Model Y recently leaked for the first time, as part of a major specs leak.
- If all goes according to plan, Model Y deliveries will begin later this year.

2020 is poised to be an incredibly busy year for Tesla. That, of course, shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given that the company seemingly becomes more ambitious with each passing year. While the company’s initial master plan — as laid out by Elon Musk — was set to conclude with a mass market EV we now know as the Model 3, the company’s product roadmap today is impressively expansive.
Aside from ongoing Model 3, Model S, and Model X production, Tesla in the near future is preparing to introduce the Model Y, a next-gen version of the Roadster, the Tesla Semi, and last but not least, the Cybertruck. The first new Tesla vehicle of 2020, however, will be the Model Y, a vehicle that is essentially a crossover version of the wildly popular Model 3.

Google location data turns innocent cyclist into burglary suspect
- Google collects location history on Android devices, and that data can be accessed by law enforcement agencies with the help of so-called “geofence warrants”.
- That’s what happened to an Android user who was at the wrong place at the wrong time, which was enough for police to consider him the prime suspect in a burglary in the neighborhood where he’s been biking for months.
- He was eventually cleared, but that involved having a lawyer contest the warrant in court and ensure the police were convinced he wasn’t the perpetrator.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Google collects a treasure trove of information about all Google services users to serve better ads. Many appreciate the trade-off. In return for personal data that can be monetized with online ads, they get excellent Google services that work more effectively the more Google learns about your life. Google Assistant is one such example. Maps is another service that’s directly dependent on Google’s ability to collect data.
But it turns out that Google’s oft-criticized data collection policies have an unexpected side effect: Location history data might just turn you into the prime suspect for a crime you didn’t commit.

iPhone sales in China dropped by more than 50% due to the coronavirus
- iPhone sales in China plummeted in February as the coronavirus kept demand low.
- Apple anticipated a slowdown in sales and last month adjusted its revenue guidance for the quarter.
- As the coronavirus continues to spread, there’s no telling when iPhone demand and production will return to normal levels.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Apple’s iPhone sales in China last month were markedly lower on account of the coronavirus, according to a new report from the South China Morning Post. This, of course, shouldn’t come as much of a surprise for two reasons. For starters, iPhone production was limited on account of factory slowdowns. Secondly, Apple retail stores in China last month were closed for long stretches of time.
Coupled with the fact that many individuals in China are still avoiding going out to public places whenever possible, iPhone sales in China last month were unusually low.
