Oppo’s Apple Watch is a blatant ripoff, but it has one feature Apple should steal
- Oppo’s first smartwatch looks very familiar, and that’s because it looks just like an Apple Watch.
- The Oppo Watch has many of the same features as the Apple Watch, but runs Android, and it’s a lot more affordable.
- It even has a couple of features that aren’t available on the Apple Watch, including super-fast charging.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
We saw the new Oppo Watch weeks ago when it first leaked, and it was clear from the start that we were looking at a blatant Apple Watch ripoff. It’s like Oppo didn’t even try to come up with something unique. The Oppo Watch is so similar to the Apple Watch that you might not believe it’s real. But it is. Oppo unveiled it on Friday, and the device looks exactly how we thought it would. With that in mind, there is one Oppo Watch feature that the device it copied could benefit from. And it’s not the curved display.

PS5 game developers ‘will strive for photorealism’ with the power of the next-gen console
- An indie developer talks about how significant the power increase from the PS4 to the PS5 will be.
- He says the studio’s upcoming psychological horror game, Martha Is Dead, “will strive for photorealism.”
- He also talked about the PS5’s solid-state drive and how raytracing will push graphics forward.

PlayStation 5 news has been incredibly hard to come by in recent months. The last official word we got directly from Sony was a post on the PlayStation Blog in which the company talked about the new controller for the PS5, which we expect to be called DualShock 5. That was October of 2019. It is now a week into March of 2020, and while Microsoft has given us a lot to chew on in regards to the Xbox Series X, we still know next to nothing about the PS5. Therefore, even vague quotes from third-party developers are enough to make headlines.

Intel’s unfixable chip flaw could give hackers access to encrypted data
- Intel chips released in the last five years contain a severe hardware security flaw that would allow hackers to bypass encryption.
- A software patch will not suffice to permanently fix the problem. Instead, an upgrade to a next-gen Intel chip and an audit of existing hardware are advised.
- This kind of vulnerability can be likened with a backdoor in encryption.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Intelligence agencies and the tech sector have been debating encryption for a few years now. Spy agencies and cops want to be able to break encryption with the help of big tech companies to access sensitive data from devices belonging to suspects. At the same time, some of them fear hacks, especially those coming from other nation-states, and agree that encryption is needed both at the hardware and software level. But officials from several governments around the world would want secret keys that can access encrypted chats, emails, and calls. And they’d want those keys to be safe to handle. That’s an impossible dream at this point, and Intel’s newest chip flaw is proof of that.
Researchers discovered a flaw in Intel’s chips that opens encrypted data to hackers. It’s a brand new security issue, different from the vulnerabilities discovered a few years ago that affected chips from Intel, AMD, and ARM — those flaws were fixed via software updates, by the way.

How to kill coronavirus, according to the EPA
- The EPA just released an approved list of products that kill coronavirus.
- Clorox, Purell, and Lysol products all make the cut.
- These products are great for sanitizing surfaces, but can’t protect you from person-to-person transmission of the coronavirus.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency just released a new list of products that it says are approved for killing coronavirus. The list is packed with products you’ll quickly recognize, from Clorox bleach to Purell hand sanitizer, but there’s also plenty of products that may not already be on your virus-killing radar.
The products on the list are labeled as either wipes, dilutable chemicals that can be mixed with water at home, or “RTU” for “ready to use,” which includes spray bottles and other consumer-level sanitizing agents. The EPA’s list is similar to other lists from groups like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but it’s not a perfect overlap. USA Today put together a brief summary of the more popular products on the list:
- Clorox Disinfecting Wipes
- Clorox Commercial Solutions
- Clorox Disinfecting Spray
- Clorox Multi-Surface Cleaner + Bleach
- Klercide 70/30
- Lonza Formulation
- Lysol Clean & Fresh Multi-Surface Cleaner
- Lysol Disinfectant Max Cover Mist
- Lysol Heavy-Duty Cleaner Disinfectant Concentrate
- Oxycide Daily Disinfectant Cleaner
- Peak Disinfectant Wipes
- Peroxide Multi Surface Cleaner and Disinfectant
- Peroxide Disinfectant and Glass Cleaner
- Purell Professional Surface Disinfectant Wipes
- Sani-Prime Germicidal Disposable Wipe
- Sani-Prime Germicidal Spray
Killing a virus when it’s on a surface isn’t difficult if you have the right tools. Sanitizing chemicals like the ones on this list have been around for a long time, and they work great. Still, it’s important to manage your expectations here and not turn into a Clorox hoarder. Keeping your home clean is a great step for your overall health, but spraying your countertop with a virus-killing chemical isn’t going to prevent you from getting sick if you come into contact with someone who actually has the coronavirus (or any contagious illness, for that matter).
Thus far, health officials believe that the virus is spread mostly via droplets expelled by infected individuals. If someone with the virus sneezes or coughs, droplets may be produced, and those droplets can make you sick if they enter your nose, mouth, or eyes. Because of this, keeping your hands clean is hugely important (this is where the Purell and other sanitizing wipes come in handy), since transmission via hand contact is a common avenue by which viruses spread.
Having one or more of these products on hand is probably wise, especially as the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread in many areas. The United States has gotten pretty lucky so far, with relatively few confirmed infections and very few deaths. However, that doesn’t mean that things can’t take a turn for the worse. Again, hoarding these products won’t do you any good, but if you want to be on top of your virus-fighting game, grabbing a bottle of Purell and using it liberally isn’t a terrible idea.

SXSW cancelled: Austin city officials decide to pull the plug because of coronavirus
- South by Southwest is one of the biggest tech and entertainment industry conferences held annually in the US.
- Tens of thousands of people come to Austin, Texas, to participate — to listen to panel discussions, hear guest speakers, and much more.
- Because of coronavirus, though, Austin city officials have decided to cancel this year’s SXSW that was set to run from March 13-22.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
South by Southwest — the tech, music, and film conference held every year in Austin, Texas, and which drew more than 73,000 people last year — is officially canceled.
The reason that the event, which was set to take place from March 13-22, has been nixed this year should come as no surprise. Austin city officials remain concerned about the spread of coronavirus, and a lengthy statement has been issued explaining the decision, which you can read below.

PS5 and Xbox Series X release won’t be delayed by coronavirus outbreak
- PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are still on track to launch in holiday 2020, chipset provider AMD confirmed during a recent meeting with analysts.
- The coronavirus outbreak isn’t expected to delay the launch of the PS5 or Xbox Series X into 2021, despite factories shutting down all over the world.
- Supply issues may still arise if the outbreak isn’t contained by the time production ramps up.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Although nothing trumps the health and safety concerns that have sprung up in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, it’s impossible to ignore how substantial the impact has been on the tech industry as well. From canceled conferences and gatherings to potential delays of upcoming products, we won’t know the extent of the damage that has been done until the virus has been contained, which could take months. Therefore, it’s no real surprise that some have wondered whether or not the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will actually ship on time.
Both the PS5 and Xbox Series X are slated to launch this holiday season, but with all of the closures and quarantines around the world due to the spread of COVID-19, it seems possible that the production of the new consoles could be affected. Thankfully, we now have at least some evidence that the consoles are still on schedule.

‘Beauty and the Beast’ prequel series coming to Disney+
- The live-action Beauty and the Beast movie is getting a prequel series on Disney+.
- The series will star Josh Gad and Luke Evans, who will reprise their roles as Gaston and LeFou.
- The Beauty and the Beast prequel series doesn’t have a name or a release date yet, but it will consist of six episodes and will be a musical, just like the movie.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The Mandalorian was a big winner for the Disney+ streaming service in the weeks after it launched, but ever since the first season of the Star Wars spin-off series concluded, some subscribers have been asking if the service is worth the $6.99 per month cost of admission. That’s not to say that Disney+ doesn’t have an incredibly deep library, because it clearly does, and there are new episodes of original shows dropping every week, but many of those are unscripted. Thankfully, it’s only a matter of time before the scripted content begins to release at a quicker rate.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, the creators of the ABC series Once Upon a Time, are teaming up with Josh Gad and Luke Evans to bring a Beauty and the Beast prequel TV series to Disney+. Evans and Gad starred as Gaston and LeFou, respectively, in the 2017 live-action remake.

Quibi is offering 90 days of free TV streaming – here’s what you can watch
- Quibi is a new ‘Quick Bites’ TV streaming service launches on April 6th and will focus on short-form storytelling.
- A 90-day free trial is available to anyone who preorders on Quibi.com before the service launches.
- Quibi will launch with plenty of content catered to mobile users, including full-fledged movies that are called Lighthouse productions.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
What is Quibi? It’s a brand new streaming service, of course. You’re probably having a hard time keeping up with all the separate streaming services you’ve subscribed to. Netflix and HBO have plenty of good shows that are must-watch, and Disney+ is so cheap. Apple TV+ is free for a year, and you’ve already got Prime Video with your Amazon Prime subscription. Throw in a service that gets you live TV and sports, and you should have plenty of entertainment at home — and that can all come in handy in case you’ve been just told not to get out of the house for two weeks because of coronavirus. You’d think there’s no place for more streaming services, but tell that to Peacock or HBO Max, and yes, Quibi. Only the last one isn’t quite your regular video streaming service. It’s got a completely unique take on the matter, one that might suit your needs while you’re on the go.
