A dog tested positive for coronavirus, but nobody knows what that means yet

As the coronavirus COVID-19 continues to keep the world’s health experts on edge, with new cases popping up in many different countries on a daily basis, a new report out of China suggests that the virus may also affect man’s best friend. The South China Morning Post reports that animal welfare officials in Hong Kong made the declaration that a COVID-19 patient’s dog had tested positive for the virus.

The report leaves many questions to be answered, and the agency’s claims have already been met with criticism. The results were reported as a “weak positive” confirmation of COVID-19 infection, but were based strictly on swabs from the animal’s mouth and nose.

Leaked Motorola Edge+ looks like it could compete with the Galaxy S20

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Motorola has rocketed back into the spotlight in recent months with the promotion and release of the foldable Razr, but that’s not all the Lenovo-owned company is bringing to the market in 2020. In the coming weeks, we expect to see the official reveal of the Motorola Edge+, which would be Motorola’s first true flagship smartphone since the release of the Moto Z3 in 2018. And on Thursday, we might have gotten our first look at the phone’s final design.

Pricebaba once again teamed up with prolific leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer, this time to share renders of the Edge+. While neither the Moto Z3 or Moto Z4 looked especially modern in comparison to the top Android flagships, the Edge+ looks like it will fit right in with its stunning waterfall display and almost invisible hole-punch selfie camera cutout. If the renders are accurate, this might be the smallest cutout ever to appear on the front of a phone.

You can now install Android on your iPhone

If you’ve ever wanted to run Android on an iPhone, we’re about to make your dream come true. Sort of. Well, it’s not easy. And just because iOS runs smoothly on the iPhone doesn’t mean you’ll get the same mobile experience after switching operating systems. Apple is in a unique position to fine-tune the software to the hardware, and even then, we’re not getting a perfect iOS experience. Google has been attempting to do the same thing with its Nexus and Pixel phones, but has yet to see even a fraction of the success Apple has seen.

Unlike Apple, Google doesn’t control everything when it comes to its hardware. There’s a huge exception though: The processor, which isn’t a custom chip made for the Pixel phone and its OS. What I’m saying is that even Google would have a hard time getting Android to work perfectly on an iPhone.

Some mobile apps have found a brilliant way to sneak malware onto your phone

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Developers of malicious mobile apps are arguably some of the most creative people you’ll find — they have to be in order to keep finding ways to sneak their wares past the guardrails of app marketplaces like the Google Play Store and to trick unsuspecting users into downloading them. Meanwhile, a new report about the mobile app malware landscape points to a rising threat that’s among the most creative approaches of all — it’s less of a hassle to convince people your app is legit when you just straight up hide it from appearing on the phone at all, right?

TCL made a ridiculous 10-inch smartphone that folds over on itself twice

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

While it’s still unclear if folding-screen smartphones will ever truly catch on, it’s obvious that plenty of companies are willing to try their hand at cramming massive, flexible displays into their mobile lineups. The latest company to offer its own take on this trend is TCL, which managed to take the idea and crank it up to 11.

Its newest concept device boasts a massive 10-inch touchscreen. That’s huge, even for a folding smartphone, but TCL pulled it off with not one, but two folds. This thing looks absolutely ridiculous, in both good and bad ways.

There has been a seemingly endless stream of reports about the iPhone 9, and whether or not it will be delayed, in recent weeks, but new iPhone models aren’t the only hardware Apple is going to release this year. We’ve also heard that Apple plans to launch a cheaper model of the AirPods Pro — which some reports are referring to as AirPods Pro Lite — and now we might know when the new model will enter production.

Another hidden Google Maps trick you definitely need to know about

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

You might only use Google Maps just for navigation, but Google’s top mobile app has plenty of hidden tricks up its sleeves — features that may not be immediately clear to the user. That’s because Google keeps updating the app and adding new features that can improve daily commutes and make exploring new places easier than ever. And Google is also looking at keeping you inside Maps for longer sessions by providing additional features that you might not expect from an app that has the word “maps” in its name.

We showed you one such trick a few days ago, a feature that helps you teach Google Maps what kind of food you enjoy, so its restaurant recommendations only provide relevant results. That’s a handy thing to take advantage of inside the app, but hardly the only hidden Maps feature you should be aware of.

Apple decided to let apps start sending you ads with push notifications

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple updates its App Store Review Guidelines on a regular basis, and while most of these changes won’t noticeably affect the way you use the App Store, there are some that will, including one that 9to5Mac spotted this week. As of the latest update to the guidelines on Wednesday, March 4th, Apple is now allowing developers to use push notifications for advertising purposes, as long as the user explicitly agrees to receive the ads.

This is the Marvel show that’ll finally answer our questions after ‘Endgame’

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Avengers: Endgame may have given us an awesome end to the Infinity War saga, but the film hardly explored what the whole thing meant for the regular humans of this world who aren’t Avengers. Let’s not forget that five years passed before the Avengers figured out how to undo the snap. Life went on during that time, and people learned how to cope with the losses and carry on with their new lives only to be shocked by the unexpected return of all the snapped humans. Endgame‘s conclusion wasn’t the perfect happy end you might have wanted, and that’s not just because the Avengers lost three heroes. The entire planet is left in some disarray, having to deal with plenty of new problems now that all the people who were snapped away returned to life.

Spider-Man: Far From Home did little to show what life on Earth was like after Endgame. We saw the point of view of high-schoolers, and the film had a much happier tone than Endgame. That was a welcome change of pace from the heartbreaking brutality of Infinity War and Endgame, but I’d still have preferred more context about the world following Smart Hulk’s snap. Now, a leak suggests that’s exactly what we’ll get from one upcoming MCU Phase 4 adventure.

Here are the top 10 shows everyone is binge-watching this week on Netflix and TV

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Netflix finished 2019 so strong, but it somehow seems like it has managed to start off 2020 even stronger. December in particular was a monster month for the streaming media giant, with high-profile releases that included a new season of Lost In Space, the shocking documentary Don’t F**k With Cats, the Oscar-nominated movie Marriage Story, and of course the premiere season of The Witcher, which has turned out to be one of Netflix’s most popular shows ever. You should definitely look through all of Netflix’s original releases from December because there’s a good chance you missed something huge… but then January started just as strong with releases like Messiah, Ragnarok, a new season of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and the second half of BoJack Horseman’s final season. And as for Netflix’s February lineup of original shows and movies, all you need to know is that a series that premiered on February 7th is still one of the most-watched shows out there right now, nearly a month later. That’s right, the epic new fantasy show Locke & Key is #3 on this week’s list of the 10 most popular shows people are binge-watching right now, and another new Netflix original has stolen the #1 spot at the top of the list.
