No matter how good your mobile app is, there will always be at least one person who will trash it with a one-star rating on the App Store, just because some people can’t help hating on things. App developer Todd Ransom, who has developed an app that maps out the areas surrounding the gorgeous waterfalls of western North Carolina, explains on Twitter that his app has gotten a one-star review for the most ridiculous possible reason: The reviewer got stung by yellow jackets while using the app.

‘Dirtbox’ planes masquerade as cell towers to collect smartphone data in sophisticated spying ops
It’s no secret anymore that governmental agencies in the U.S. and other countries have access to sophisticated tools that allow them to track and collect data from smartphones and other devices without users knowing anything is happening, and The Wall Street Journal has uncovered yet another such operation which uses a special “dirtbox” technology installed in special planes that can mimic cell phone towers and fool smartphones into believing they’re connecting to a genuine carrier tower.

Apple Pay is poised to make a huge impact on Black Friday shopping
Walmart may not like it but Apple Pay looks like it’s about to have a big impact on 2014’s Black Friday shopping season. A new survey conducted by Stratos, the makers of the Bluetooth Connected Card Platform, estimates that 30% of American smartphone owners plan to use either Apple Pay or Google Wallet to buy things this holiday shopping season. What’s more, 17% of smartphone users surveyed said having the option to buy things with Apple Pay or Google Wallet would cause them to spend more money than they normally would.

Scientists landed a probe on a comet this week – here are the first amazing pictures
In case you missed it, the European Space Agency’s Rosetta spacecraft successfully landed a probe onto the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko earlier this week, marking the first time we’ve ever successfully put a manmade device onto a comet. Wired has snagged several images taken by both the Rosetta and the probe of the comet’s surface and they give us an amazing first-hand look at the what it’s like to be on a giant rock that’s hurtling through space.
