Samsung’s 100x Zoom camera gets put to the test by a private investigator

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

One of the more intriguing features Samsung included on its S20 lineup is something the company calls Space Zoom. Though the name itself is admittedly a bit gimmicky, I have a sneaking suspicion Apple is a bit perturbed it didn’t come with it first.

The name aside, Space Zoom looks pretty darn cool and offers up an astounding ability to zoom in on a subject while taking a photo. The S20 Ultra in particular, which will set you back about $1400, takes zoom technology to the next level.

OnePlus is about to launch a brand new product, but it’s not the OnePlus 8 Pro

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

OnePlus usually launches a brand new phone — or phone series — every six months or so, with recent reports suggesting that the OnePlus 8 series might drop a few months earlier than expected. Some speculated that the new flagship phone will be unveiled in March, given an increase in OnePlus 8 leaks lately. Not to mention that OnePlus has already confirmed one of the signature features of the upcoming flagship, which is a clear sign that an announcement may be imminent.

The coronavirus outbreak, which prompted the GSMA to cancel Mobile World Congress last month, may have impacted OnePlus’s own product launch plans, even though the company had nothing planned for MWC. But OnePlus is now teasing a surprise announcement for March 3rd, and the mystery product doesn’t seem to be a smartphone.

AT&T can’t stop bleeding pay TV subscribers, so now it’s trying to lock them into 2-year contracts

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It’s easier than ever to watch live TV on any device you own. There are multiple services that charge a flat monthly rate for access to dozens of stations and a variety of perks, such as recording and video-on-demand. AT&T is one of the many companies that offer live TV, but one service apparently is not enough for the mobile carrier, as AT&T TV is rolling out nationwide today. Unlike AT&T TV Now, AT&T TV is contract-based, so once you sign up, you’re locked in for at least a year. This is a big change from other internet TV services, which are mostly month-to-month.

This is going to be your new favorite Fire TV accessory, and it’s only $22

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Last year, Amazon released an updated version of the Alexa voice remote that comes with devices like the Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick 4K. It was a terrific update and it was long overdue. All Amazon did was add two little buttons, but it’s the functionality they added that matters, of course. One was a volume toggle that lets you adjust the volume on your TV up and down, and the second was a mute button. That’s it, and yet this simple change meant that many people would now be able to ditch their TV remote and use a single device to control their Fire TV player and their TV.

It’s a nifty update indeed, and you can actually buy the new 2nd-Gen Alexa Voice Remote on Amazon if your Fire TV predates the newer models that ship with one. That said, it’s a $30 upgrade and we don’t recommend getting it. Instead, allow us to introduce you to your new favorite Fire TV accessory. It’s called the SofaBaton F2 Universal Remote Attachment for Amazon Fire TV, and it turbocharges your Alexa remote. In fact, you should definitely get one even if you already have the newer Amazon remote with volume controls for your TV.

SofaBaton F2 Universal Remote Attachment for Amazon Fire TV Streaming Player with Power Volume…: $21.99

The SofaBaton F2 attaches to your Fire TV remote and extends the length at the top, adding a bunch of universal remote buttons above the Alexa button on your main remote. You’ll find volume buttons and a mute button, sure, but you’ll also get two power buttons, channel up and down buttons, an input button, and three additional buttons that are entirely user-configurable. In other words, adding this attachment means you can control your entire setup with a single remote, truly allowing you to ditch your other remotes. The 2nd-gen Alexa remote is really only good for people who only watch content on a Fire TV device. This accessory, on the other hand, lets you switch input sources and even control other devices.

SofaButon’s F2 normally sells for $40 on Amazon, but a discount and an extra coupon you can clip on the product page cut the price down to just $21.99. Definitely grab one while it’s on sale.

Daniel Radcliffe address potential Harry Potter return – and kills a major Marvel rumor in the process

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

No matter what Daniel Radcliffe does over the course of the remainder of his career, he’ll always be Harry Potter to me, and the actor I’d most want to reprise the role. I’ve definitely enjoyed the eight movies so far, and I do rewatch them from time to time. I also can’t help but wonder what would happen next to my favorite wizards. What would Potter’s adult life be like? It’s too early to say if we’ll ever see Radcliffe as Potter again, but the actor has just Avada Kedavra’d reports that he may reprise the role. Unless it’s all a clever Confundo, of course.

If you have no idea what Avada Kedavra or Confundo are, then you’re in luck: you have eight Harry Potter movies to look forward to, which is eight more than most of us who have already seen them. The entire eight-film Harry Potter collection happens to be on sale right now on DVD for just $39.99, so you’ve got your work cut out for you.

The single greatest accessory any Apple fan can get is only $11 at Amazon

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Being a big Apple fan is definitely a blessing and a curse. On the positive side, you get to use some of the best consumer electronics products on the planet in terms of both hardware design and software user experience. On the other side, Apple products are really expensive and then you have to pay even more money on accessories for all those devices. That’s why we always try to share great deals on best-selling accessories like iPhone cases, Apple Watch accessories, and more. For example, check out this awesome portable Apple Watch charger that’s on sale right now for just $21.99.

Portable Charger for Apple Watch-1000mah Battery Magnetic Wireless Charger Stand Power Bank Com…: $21.99

But there’s another Apple accessory on sale right now on Amazon that we definitely need to focus on because it might just be the single greatest Apple accessory you can get.

If you have an iPhone, you need to use a wireless charger or a Lightning charger to recharge it each day. If you also have an Apple Watch, you know you need a totally different type of proprietary charger. It’s a nifty magnetic wireless charging disc that pumps power into your Apple Watch without the need to plug anything in. Nifty, yes. But it’s also annoying to have to use two different types of chargers when both products are made by the same company. What happened to simplicity and continuity?

That’s why the Zahemes 2 in 1 Charging Cable for iPhone and Apple Watch is genius. Seriously, why doesn’t Apple make a cable like this? It’s a single cable that plugs into any USB wall adapter, and then it branches off into two different connectors. You’ll have a Lightning plug so you can charge your iPhone as well as a wireless charging disc for the Apple Watch. On top of that, it supports iPhone charging speeds up to 12W, which means it’s more than twice as fast as the regular Apple wall adapter that comes in the box with every iPhone model other than the newest iPhone 11 series phones. It’s definitely a must-have for anyone with an Apple Watch and an iPhone, and it’s on sale right now for $11.

Scientists caught a deep-sea sponge ‘sneezing’ on camera, and it’s so weird

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

You probably don’t think you have much in common with the creatures that inhabit the floor of the deep sea. Most of the animals that endure the intense pressure and lack of sunlight are, well, downright strange. Sea sponges are one such creature, and they come in many shapes and sizes. As surprising as it seems, one particular variety of sea sponge, called a glass sponge, shares something in common with humans and many terrestrial animals: It sneezes.

An observation campaign by scientists from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute captured time-lapse footage of the seafloor off of California. Researchers studying the footage spotted the peculiar behavior, and you can watch it for yourself.

You only have one day to get smart light switches on Amazon for $9 each

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

I have six recessed lights in my living room and another seven in the kitchen right next to it. That’s a total of 13 lights in those two rooms alone, and I bought Philips Hue smart bulbs for all of them. I didn’t get the color bulbs that are $50 a piece because, let’s be honest here, who wants crazy colored lights in his or her kitchen or living room. But the white bulbs I did buy cost me $24 each, which adds up to $312. Philips Hue is great and all, but that’s such a waste of money — especially considering the fact that I could’ve accomplished the same thing by keeping the regular LED bulbs I was using and buying two simple smart light switches.

If you don’t care about colors and all that craziness, you should definitely consider picking up a smart light switch instead of individual smart light bulbs. You get the same smart features at a fraction of the price — especially if you take advantage of the one-day sale happening right now on Amazon.

There are two different kinds of top-rated Aoycocr smart light switches on sale today, and both are down to all-time low prices. The coupon code 40UFV4EG saves you 40% on either a single Aoycocr Smart Light Switch or a 2-pack of Aoycocr Smart Light Switches, which means your per-switch cost is as little as $9. Smart light switches from big brands can costs as much as $60+ each, so that’s a crazy deal!

It has been nearly three years since Apple released its first smartphone with a notch at the top of the display, and it wasn’t even the first company to launch a smartphone with a notch in the screen. That honor goes to LG, which released a smartphone called the V10 all the way back in 2015 that had a notch cut out of the top-left corner of the screen. With that in mind, the notch has now been a part of smartphone design language for almost five years, and yet some people still can’t seem to accept it. Anyone who has used a smartphone with a notch knows that it’s really not a big deal at all. You might focus on it at first, but after a short while it just becomes part of the user experience and you don’t even really notice it at all. Nothing of any importance is ever really displayed on the very top edge of the screen anyway, aside from any icons or indicators that might appear in the status bar. Needless to say, those items are all moved to either side of the notch on phones with notches, so nothing of any importance is ever lost.

We’ve already discussed that the hole-punch design really isn’t any better than a notch in terms of user experience, but many people seem to prefer it because it removes less physical space from the screen. Now, one of the most hotly anticipated flagship Android phones of the year just leaked, and it has one of the biggest holes we’ve ever seen. Is it really any better than the notch that Apple will reuse again on its upcoming iPhone 12 series smartphones? Let’s take a look.
