Why Coronavirus might actually be great news for Netflix
There’s no question that the spreading coronavirus is hurting the global economy. Whether it’s the manufacturing of goods in China, tourism in Italy, or trade shows that are a critical part of marketing products, they’re all affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. This week’s Wall Street sell-off is proof of that, as investors are panicking.
But the coronavirus isn’t bad news for everyone, and analysts have already identified the businesses that might thrive during a prolonged flu season: It’s video streaming, the kind of entertainment available to anyone, anywhere, with Netflix being one of the companies expected to remain profitable during the outbreak.

The hottest movies that streaming fans can’t get enough of right now
It’s been a few weeks now since the foreign-language blockbuster Parasite stunned Hollywood by taking home a handful of major awards at this year’s Oscars ceremony — including a Best Picture win for the critically acclaimed film, the first time a foreign title has done so in the 92-year history of the awards. And the buzz surrounding the movie, which will have an exclusive streaming home soon, has yet to die down. In fact, it may even be continuing to grow.
To coincide with the one-year anniversary of Parasite premiering at the prestigious Cannes film festival, Grand Central Publishing is planning to soon release director Bong Joon Ho’s storyboards for the film in the form of a 304-page graphic novel. Set for a May 19 publication date (and available for pre-order here), it will include a forward that’s penned by the director, and the dialogue and camera directions will be translated into English. Meanwhile, not only will the book no doubt prove something of a hot commodity among the film’s legion of fans in the US — Hulu has announced that it will stream the movie starting on April 8. To say nothing of the fact that there are still plenty of viewers who don’t want to wait that long, and who’ve already taken advantage of movie rental services like Amazon and iTunes to make Parasite the top streaming movie once again this week.

Watch vets yank an entire beach towel out of this snake, and be glad you chew your food
Bite, chew, swallow. It’s a boring routine, but it works for many animals, including humans. Many snake species, including pythons, have streamlined their eating habits a bit, with jaws that unhinge and allow them to swallow their food whole. It works pretty well… as long as the thing you’re swallowing is actually food, that is.
For one unfortunate python in Australia, mistaking a decidedly inedible item for lunch landed it in the hands of veterinarians, and the procedure it had to endure was no doubt uncomfortable. That’s just what happens when you swallow an entire beach towel.

We talk with Xbox co-founder Ed Fries about the future of gaming and this year’s new consoles
You might expect the guy who co-founded the Xbox project for Microsoft years ago to fly his alma mater’s flag high and proud ahead of the coming face-off later this year between Microsoft’s and Sony’s next-generation consoles, the Xbox Series X and the PS5, respectively. Ed Fries, who during his time with Microsoft was one of the early developers of Excel and Word in addition to serving as the company’s original VP of games, has certainly been watching with more than mere passing interest as the rival gaming giants lay the groundwork for what promises to be an exciting holiday season this year for gamers.
The leaks and hints about what’s to come for both of this year’s most exciting new consoles have certainly been stacking up way ahead of time. Microsoft, for example, in recent days confirmed that with a 12 teraflop GPU, the new Xbox will be twice as powerful as the Xbox One X. Similarly, Sony will be offering another high-powered console as it tries to maintain the lead that even Fries said it’s enjoyed in the current console generation — even as he thinks new console generations will, ironically, be less important over time.

You’re playing with fire if you download Android apps from this sketchy app store
Google’s Play Store has come under fire in recent weeks over reports that keep stacking up about malicious apps that have snuck past the security checks of Google’s app marketplace only to be identified later and summarily booted from the Play Store — but not before amassing what are in many cases millions of downloads and no doubt causing significant damage behind the scenes. Still, there are far sketchier places where users are downloading Android apps, and a new report identifies what may be the most dangerous yet.
RiskIQ has published its 2019 Mobile App Threat Landscape report, which pegs 9Game.com — a mobile app store offering free Android game — as the most dangerous such store, and, in fact, the home of the most malicious apps for all of 2019. According to the report, there were almost 62,000 new malicious apps uploaded to the store in 2019, putting 9Game at the top of the list of stores with the most new malicious apps but also at the top of the overall list of stores with the most sketchy apps in total. There are also hundreds of other less-than-reputable app stores like this one, the report warns, which “represent a murky mobile underworld that exists outside of the relative safety of reputable stores. With many of these apps found in stores hosted in countries known for cybercrime, such as China, or outside of stores altogether on the open web (often referred to as feral apps), it’s no wonder CISOs can’t keep tabs on them.”

? AirPods Pro are somehow back down to Amazon’s lowest price ever ?
It’s a Leap Day miracle! We have no idea how it’s possible, but Amazon just shocked us all on Saturday with one of the rarest deals on any popular Apple product. That’s right boys and girls, Apple’s best-selling AirPods Pro noise-canceling true wireless earbuds are on sale today at their lowest price ever!
AirPods Pro went on sale for the first time ever ahead of the holidays last year on Black Friday. Most retailers were still selling them at full retail since AirPods were the hottest gift of the season, but Amazon chopped them down to an all-time low price of $234.98. We’ve seen them drop back down to that sale price a few times since then, but each of those deals had one thing in common: AirPods Pro were out of stock at the time, so people had to wait around for them to be delivered.
On Saturday, we hit the mother lode. AirPods Pro are back down to Amazon’s all-time low price, AND they’re back in stock right now — or at least, they were at the time of this writing. Now that the cat’s out of the bag, there’s really no telling how long they’ll stay in stock. Keep in mind as shipping times start to slip that Amazon always ships orders sooner than the quote says. We ordered AirPods Pro last year when shipping said 1-2 months, and ours were delivered in less than a week.
Apple AirPods Pro: $234.98
If you’re looking for high-quality true wireless earbuds but you don’t need noise cancellation or you don’t want to spend quite that much money, we’ve got a few more options for you today. First, you can pick up AirPods 2 with Wireless Charging Case for under $120 if you buy them renewed on Amazon. They retail for $200, so that’s a crazy deal.
Apple AirPods 2 with Wireless Charging Case – White (Renewed): $119.95
On top of that, three popular SoundPEATS true wireless earbuds are on sale right now at their lowest prices. $36 SoundPEATS TrueCapsule Wireless Earbuds are on sale for just $24.64 with coupon code 8PK6E688, $40 SoundPEATS TrueAir earbuds are $29.19 with the promo code 9PG5KTQO, and $46 SoundPEATS TrueWings are just $33.99 thanks to an on-site coupon and the promo code B8YGM798.

‘Candyman’ and all the new movie trailers you need to watch from this past week
The Invisible Man is this week’s top new movie at the box office, starring Elisabeth Moss. She plays a woman whose abusive husband killed himself, leaving her a fortune. The trick is, she has to be mentally sane to get it, and we already know from the trailers that things will start happening to her that will drive her insane, or make everyone around her think that’s the case. Her husband, of course, isn’t dead, he’s just invisible. This isn’t a spoiler, by the way, it’s all over the trailers we’ve been watching. How will Moss’s character get out of it?
Over on streaming, we have a new season of Altered Carbon over on Netflix, with Anthony Mackie playing the hero this time around. I’ll also tell you that The Last Thing He Wanted premieres on the same service, but this Anne Hathaway-Ben Affleck drama isn’t exactly getting the best reviews.
