Apple unveils ‘the best tablet in the world’: Meet the iPad Air 2
Apple’s iPad event is well underway and the company has just announced its next-generation flagship tablet, the iPad Air 2. As you might expect, the new device is the thinnest iPad Air yet released and measures in at 6.1 millimeters thin, or 18% thinner than the original iPad Air. The new tablet will also be the first device to run on the A8x chip, a new chipset with 3 billion transistors that will deliver an even better performance than the A8 chip found on the iPhone 6. The device also boasts 10 hours of battery life and features an M8 chip with support for a barometer and motion tracking sensors.

BREAKING: Apple announces release details for OS X Yosemite
New iPads are great and new Mac computers are nice, but truth be told, we’re far more excited about upgrading the Apple gear we already have with the latest and greatest software. Apple has been travelling a somewhat bumpy road lately with iOS, but the brand new version of its desktop platform OS X should be plenty stable after three different Gold Master releases in recent weeks. And now, we know exactly when we can finally get our hands on OS X Yosemite.

Apple’s big fall event is now underway: First up, Apple Pay launch info
Are you ready, Apple fans? It’s finally here… the last big Apple event of the year, which just so happens to take place right ahead of the holiday shopping season. What a coincidence! Apple doesn’t like to beat around the bush, and things started strong during Thursday’s press conference as CEO Tim Cook announced that Apple has signed more than 500 partners for Apple Pay’s launch, and the service will become available to Apple customers starting this Monday.

APPLE’S HUGE EVENT IS ABOUT TO START – here’s how to watch live!
It’s no mystery that there is far less hype leading up to today’s Apple event than there was leading up the its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus unveiling back in September, but today’s special press conference is still one of the biggest events of the year for consumer tech. We won’t see any sleek new smartphones unveiled, of course, but Apple has plenty more up its sleeve for Apple fans in 2014, and the company is finally about to lay its card on the table.

This is one way the Nexus 6 beats the iPhone 6 Plus
Just like Apple, Google embraced phablets this year, deciding to launch a Nexus 6 smartphone so huge that not all potential buyers will be interested in it. The device has a 6-inch quad HD display that’s half an inch bigger than the iPhone 6 Plus Full HD screen, but that doesn’t mean the Motorola-made phablet is actually bigger than the iPhone 6 phablet.

It’s official: Apple announces iOS 8.1, release coming Monday
New iPads and Macs might be the stars of the show during Apple’s big press conference on Thursday, but eager Apple fans had much more on their minds than just hardware. New Apple software was arguably even more hotly anticipated than the company’s new iPads, and while OS X Yosemite certainly features far more changes, iOS 8.1 will be Apple’s most widely used software platform in no time at all.
And now, we know what’s coming next.

THIS IS NUTS: New benchmark suggests the Nexus 9 is almost as powerful as a 2012 Mac Pro
Not only does the new Nexus 9 tablet look terrific but it also apparently performs terrifically as well. Geekbench developer and Primate Labs founder John Poole has just posted the Geekbench results for the Nexus 9 and the results are positively incredible for an Android tablet. The new device’s single-core score on Geekbench totals 1903, which Poole notes is only slightly less than what “an entry-level Mac Pro (2012) scores” at 1925. Poole also says that such a single-core score for a Nexus tablet is flat-out “insane.”

This is how the real Apple TV will let you ditch your cable provider
Well, this is interesting: Over the past couple of days both HBO and CBS have announced different standalone streaming services that won’t require a cable bundle… and this is all right before a big Apple event in which the company may or may not talk about the future of its Apple TV set-top box. What is clear, however, is that over-the-top content is the future while pricey cable bundles are the past, and Apple and other big tech companies are likely going to lead the way with their own streaming services, set-top boxes and perhaps even television sets that will let you watch your favorite shows online.

NYT: iPad Pro ‘not yet finished,’ not even considered ‘official’ at Apple
For most of the year, reports detailing a bigger 12.9-inch iPad, often referred to as the “iPad Pro,” offered contradicting views on Apple’s tablet plans. Some said Apple is indeed working on a bigger tablet, but others said the project has been shelved. While more and more reports have recently suggested that the iPad Pro will make its debut next year, The New York Times has learned the product isn’t even considered official within Apple yet.

Will.i.am is a stupid person with stupid ideas
“You were thinking it!”
“Yeah, but you said it!”
I think we all need to have a little talk. Everyone is thinking it, so I’m going to come out and say it… will.i.am is so stupid. He’s talented in some ways, namely music, and I don’t know him personally but friends who know him say he’s an arrogant asshole. That doesn’t matter, though. What matters is how ridiculous will.i.am’s entire foray into the tech world is, and has been.
Shall we take a trip down memory lane together and remember how when everyone knew BlackBerry was dead in the water, this idiot was launching a failed social network and being trotted out by BlackBerry at the company’s conferences? Or how his iPhone camera attachment took the world by storm?
