If all your iPhone apps suddenly need updates, you’re not alone
- Apple released iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 to the public last week, but users have already discovered two bugs that seem to have something to do with app certificates.
- First, iOS 13.5 users were running into an error that made some apps inaccessible. The only way to get the app back up and running was to delete it or offload it and reinstall it.
- Second, iOS 13.5 users were being asked to install dozens of app updates that they had already installed, and it seems likely that these two issues are related.
Last Wednesday, Apple released the final versions of iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 to the public. The updates contained the Exposure Notification API that developers can use to create contact tracing apps for the novel coronavirus as well as a simplified unlock process for Face ID for users wearing face masks.
iOS 13.5 was the first major public software release for the iPhone since March, but it wouldn’t be a software launch without a hiccup or two. MacRumors reported last Friday that some iOS users were experiencing a bug which made it impossible to open certain apps. The following error message began appearing on the screen for affected users: “This app is no longer shared with you.” Now, a potentially related bug is rearing its ugly head.

CDC says even rats are going crazy from coronavirus lockdowns
- The CDC warns of coronavirus rat aggression in the wake of COVID-19 lockdowns across the country.
- Rats and mice that typically feast on our food scraps in or near restaurants and other food establishments have suddenly found themselves struggling to find something to eat.
- Rodents aren’t believed to carry the novel coronavirus, so the risk that they will spread it is essentially zero, but residents of larger cities may begin to see the creatures acting more bold and aggressive as they struggle to find new food sources.
The coronavirus pandemic has affected our day-to-day lives in some dramatic ways, but we’re hardly the only species that has been forced to adapt to life in this new reality. Rodents that we often consider pests are struggling, too, and the Centers for Disease Control just issued a warning that stressed-out, hungry, desperate mice and rats may exhibit “unusual or aggressive rodent behavior.”
You may like to think your favorite restaurant is rat-free, and perhaps it is, but it’s equally likely that the food scraps and debris left behind by visitors and tossed into heaping garbage cans sustain a whole rodent empire that you never actually see. Now, with restaurants largely closed or severely restricted, those rodents have been forced to be bolder in their search for food.

The device that can warn you of a coronavirus infection is on sale for one more day
- Everyone has been told that monitoring your temperature for a fever is the best way to be on the lookout out for a potential novel coronavirus infection, and Amazon’s best-selling infrared thermometer is finally back in stock.
- As it turns out, however, there may be an even better and more accurate way to determine if you might be sick with COVID-19.
- A pulse oximeter is a device that measures blood oxygen levels and we came across a terrific deal on Amazon that will save you $134 on one of the best models out there.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
What’s the one thing experts have been saying we should watch out for as an early warning sign of a potential coronavirus infection? That’s right, a fever. We’ve been told this over and over again, and some businesses are even performing temperature checks at entry as they begin to reopen. As it turns out, however, a fever might not be as common a coronavirus symptom as we all thought. Some more recent studies have suggested that fewer than half of patients who are infected with COVID-19 get a fever.
This is fairly startling news since elevated temperature is the one thing we’ve been told to be on the lookout for first and foremost. Thankfully though, there’s something else that might be a much better indicator of a novel coronavirus infection. Since the virus attacks the lungs, people who catch COVID-19 can often tell by checking their blood oxygen level. Normal blood oxygen readings are between 95% and 100% according to the Mayo clinic, but coronavirus patients have been found with readings as low as 50%. Anything under 90% is considered unhealthy.
Today, we have a great deal to share with our readers on one of the niftiest pulse oximeters we know of. It’s called the Wellue Oxygen Saturation Tracker and it’s different from most of the blood oxygen level meters you’ve seen. Whereas most of them clip to the end of your pointer finger to give a reading, this model is a ring that you can wear all the time for continuous readings. What’s more, it alerts you if your blood oxygen level drops too low and it even connects to an app on your iPhone or Android device.
The Wellue Oxygen Saturation Tracker is a terrific tool and it lasts for 14 hours per charge so you can wear it all day or all night. You can also just use it periodically to check your blood oxygen level since constant monitoring isn’t always necessary. This model carries a hefty retail price of $260, but an Amazon discount plus the special coupon code WSSIKXYR slash it down to an all-time low of just $125.99. This huge discount is only available for one more day, so definitely take advantage of this sale while you can.
Wellue Overnight Oxygen Saturation Tracker with Notification for Low O2 Level and Heart Rate, F…: $125.99 (use code WSSIKXYR by 5/26)
Here are some of the key details from the product page:
- Peace of mind on your finger, adjustable vibration feedback for low oxygen level and irregular heart rate.
- The lightest, smallest, most comfortable ring sensor for overnight continuous monitoring, durable, and adaptable to most fingers.
- Free professional APP and PC report shows the graphic sleep report and trends of blood oxygen level condition, heart rate and motion
- Rechargeable: 2 hours charging for up to 14 hours of usage. The device runs automatically when you wear it
- You will get: A 12-month Worry-Free Warranty, lifetime technical support, top-grade customer service, and fast responses within 12 hours.
Wellue Overnight Oxygen Saturation Tracker with Notification for Low O2 Level and Heart Rate, F…: $125.99 (use code WSSIKXYR by 5/26)

Amazon’s first big Fire TV Stick sale in months has prices starting at $29.99
- Amazon is running a big Fire TV Stick sale for Memorial Day 2020, slashing several best-selling Fire TV products to their lowest prices of 2020 so far.
- The stars of the show on Monday are definitely the Fire TV Stick at $29.99 and the Fire TV Stick 4K, which is on sale right now for $39.99 for a limited time.
- Other Fire TV devices are also on sale at deep discounts for Memorial Day, including flat-screen TVs with built-in Fire TV software starting at just $119.99.
Memorial Day is known for big sales and great deals, but Memorial Day 2020 is obviously much different from what we’ve used to. While it’s true that many regions across the United States are beginning to reopen their economies, people are still being advised by most experts only to leave their homes if absolutely necessary. That obviously means we won’t see big crowds lining up outside stores for Memorial Day sales, but it hardly means you’re going to miss out on great deals. Doesn’t everyone shop online these days anyway?
Amazon has plenty of great deals lined up for Memorial Day today, and we’re going to be sharing the best of the best all day long. If there’s one sale that will be of particular interest to our readers though, it’s Amazon’s big Fire TV blowout.
Various Amazon devices have been going on sale for limited periods of time over the past few months despite Amazon’s shift away from nonessential products during the coronavirus outbreak. One device line that has for the most part been left out of Amazon’s sales, however, is the Fire TV lineup. That changes today though because Amazon is offering deep discounts up to 29% off Fire TV streaming media players and flat-screen televisions with built-in Fire TV software.
The stars of the show are definitely the Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick 4K, which get their first big discounts in months. The Fire TV Stick is down to $29.99 for a limited time, matching its lowest price of 2020 so far, and the upgraded Fire TV Stick 4K with support for 4K resolution and HDR content is on sale right now for $39.99. You definitely can’t go wrong with either device.
Fire TV Stick streaming media player with Alexa built in, includes Alexa Voice Remote, HD, easy…: $29.99
Fire TV Stick 4K streaming device with Alexa built in, Dolby Vision, includes Alexa Voice Remot…: $39.99
If you’re looking for something a bit more comprehensive, the Fire TV Cube is basically a Fire TV Stick 4K and an Echo Dot mixed into a single device. It normally sells for $120 but grab one right now and you’ll pay just $99.99.
Fire TV Cube, hands-free with Alexa built in, 4K Ultra HD, streaming media player, released 201…: $99.99
Those of you looking for an all-inclusive option will also find two fantastic deals on flat-screen televisions that have Fire TV software built right in. The $170 Insignia NS-32DF310NA19 32-inch Smart HD TV – Fire TV Edition is on sale at an all-time low of just $119.99, and the new $350 Insignia NS-50DF711SE21 50-inch Smart 4K UHD TV – Fire TV Edition is down to $289.99 if you hurry.
Insignia NS-32DF310NA19 32-inch Smart HD TV – Fire TV Edition: $119.99

- Want to stream movies online for free? No, Netflix isn’t running some kind of crazy promotion — Tubi is a fantastic Netflix alternative that lets you stream movies and TV shows for free.

Netflix recently announced its full slate of June 2020 releases and there is plenty to be excited about next month if you’re a Netflix subscriber. Of course, Netflix’s original movies and shows are always more hotly anticipated than anything else on the service, and there are some huge releases taking place in June. Highlights include the final seasons of Fuller House and 13 Reasons Why, Queer Eye season 5, F is for Family season 4, Marcella season 3, The Order season 2, and the second season of the hit show The Politician.
There are plenty of movies set to hit the streaming service next month as well, and you can see all of them in our earlier coverage. Of course with 15% of the workforce in America currently unemployed, temporarily cancelling Netflix is an easy way for people to cut costs until they get back on their feet. Back in March, we shared a list of 10 completely free movie and TV show streaming services that can serve as fantastic alternatives for those who want to temporarily cancel Netflix or anyone looking for some great content that might not be available on Netflix. Now, our favorite service among them just announced some terrific new additions that are coming to its catalog in June 2020.

Even more coronavirus face masks are in stock on this special Amazon page
- Coronavirus face masks must be work at all times whenever you leave your house for any reason, according to the CDC.
- While it’s true that any face covering will help to some degree, multi-ply face masks that are specifically made to block particles from entering your airways do a much better job than simple face coverings like bandanas and scarves.
- Amazon now has a special page on its website dedicated to face masks and there are several new options for sale.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Go check out the coronavirus page on the CDC’s website and you’ll see the following recommendation, which is so very imp: “cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others.” In other words, you need to protect your face with a mask anytime you leave your house for any reason, whether it’s to do something high-risk like go grocery shopping or low-risk like take a walk in the park. Also of note, there’s one more line from the CDC’s coronavirus page that everyone should take note of: “Do NOT use a face mask meant for a healthcare worker.”
Any cloth face covering will help protect you from the novel coronavirus as long as you also practice strict social distancing and good hygiene, which means using soap or hand sanitizer (which is back in stock at Amazon) to clean your hands anytime to touch a surface in public. Beyond that, it will protect other people around you in case you’re infected with COVID-19. This is crucial, but it doesn’t mean you should go buying up N95 face masks meant for healthcare workers and first responders. There’s a huge shortage of medical-grade masks right now, and using masks that are meant for people who are constantly at risk is shameful and selfish. That’s especially true since there are so many different options right now on Amazon that are in stock and ready to ship soon.
Face Masks and Protective Face Covers On Amazon: $8.99+
Amazon now has a special face mask page on its site that is dedicated solely to face masks and other protective covers. You’ll find plenty of different options there that range from surgical-style masks to various cloth covers. If you’d rather not browse through them all, we totally understand and we’re here to help. That’s why we’ve rounded up the three best-selling face masks on Amazon right now.
First, 3-Layer Face Masks From Jointown are the single best selling masks on Amazon right now. These are great three-layer masks that do a much better job of protecting you and those around you than a bandana or most homemade masks. They’re available right now for $34.99 per box of 50, which works out to just $0.70 per mask.
Face Mask, Pack of 50: $34.99 ($0.70 / mask)
Next up, we have similar Basic Resources 3-Ply Face Masks. These are also top-sellers on Amazon right now and they do just as good a job as Jointown’s masks. 50-packs are available for $34.99, which works out to $0.70 per mask just like the Jointown face coverings. They’re a fantastic option if Jointown’s masks sell out or if you just want to try a new brand.
Single Use Disposable Face Mask (Pack of 50), Blue: $34.99 ($0.70 / mask)
Last but certainly not least, we have the Athphy KN95 4-Ply Face Masks. These masks are much thicker than the first two options and they filter smaller particles as well. They’re also more expensive, but it’s not a bad idea to keep a few around for special circumstances like if you have to go to the hospital or a doctor’s office. I even use KN95 masks when I’m grocery shopping because you can never be too careful.

Android is finally copying one of the best things about iMessage on the iPhone
- Google Messages end-to-end encryption support might be coming soon, leaked code from an internal build of the RCS instant messaging app indicates.
- Google’s iMessage rival supports many of the same rich messaging features available in iMessage and many other chat apps, but end-to-end encryption isn’t one of them.
- Google is currently testing an app update to its newest Messages app that would bring the security functionality over to Android default texting.
A single iPhone app is important that it might keep you hooked to iOS forever, and that’s iMessage. It’s an SMS alternative that Apple devised many years ago, the one that brought over the blue message bubbles to mobile, which become a key identifier for iPhone users. iMessage works on iPad and Mac, offering the same set of rich texting features, and all communication is protected by end-to-end encryption. Apple never made an iMessage app for Android or any other platform, and Google has been struggling to come up with a similar alternative for many years. The latest attempt is called RCS (rich communication services), and it’s not available to Android users everywhere. Moreover, Google Messages is less secure than iMessage, as it doesn’t support end-to-end encryption, which is a key feature for messaging apps. Google is finally going to fix it, as it’s already testing full encryption on an internal build of Google Messages.

Brand new jailbreak can ‘unlock’ any iPhone or iPad
- The iPhone jailbreak community has a new tool at its disposal that will unlock any iPhone or iPad running any iOS version from iOS 11 to iOS 13.5.
- Called Unc0ver, the iOS jailbreak uses a 0-day vulnerability issue that could be patched soon. But it can currently offer unrestricted access to the software of iPhone 11, iPhone SE, and the latest iPad Pros.
Jailbreaking or rooting refers to unlocking a phone from the manufacturer’s software protections allows users to sideload apps, and gives them more control of the device. That’s not to be confused with unlocking a phone which was purchased from a carrier and which might be locked to that operator’s network out of the box. Some iPhone users have relied on jailbreaks to run software that never made it to the App Store or to study the security of iOS, and jailbreaking has been around for almost as long as iOS. Hackers who discovered hardware or software security issues that allowed them to unlock access to the iPhone operating system have been playing a cat-and-mouse game with Apple for years. As soon as they’d find some new vulnerabilities ta attack, Apple would patch them. It’s now 2020 and jailbreaking a phone or tablet is probably not what most people want to do, or have to. But a hacker group just released the most important jailbreak software in years, a tool that can break not just old devices, but also the latest iPhone 11, 2020 iPad Pro, and iPhone SE. Even better, Pwn20wnd’s Unc0ver tool works on the newest iOS release, which came out just a few days ago.
