Beloved Apple blogger shares iPhone 6’s ‘most disappointing aspect’
Among the thousands of bloggers around the world covering the Apple beat, John Gruber is likely the most beloved and respected by Apple fans. His analyses are often sharp and insightful, and we always enjoy his frank style — even when he’s launching attacks aimed at us. So, when Gruber takes to his blog Daring Fireball and reviews Apple’s brand new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, it’s safe to assume that his is one of the few reviews out there that is actually worth reading. And an equally safe assumption is that we should take note when he shares his thoughts on “the single-most disappointing aspect of the new phones.”

iOS 8 vs iOS 7: This is how your favorite mobile platform changed overnight
Apple’s recently released iOS 8 is very similar to iOS 7, at least when looking at it from a distance. But the new mobile operating system has a bunch of significant new features ready to be used right away, or arriving at some point next month following a software update. In fact, even though iOS 8 appears to be identical to iOS 7, there are many UI tweaks that make it even more user-friendly than its predecessor, one site put together a detailed guide, complete with images showing some of the critical differences between the two iOS versions that’ll completely change the way you interact with your iOS devices.

No one understands the Apple Watch strategy, and it’s totally a winner
Not much is known about Apple’s upcoming Apple Watch pricing besides the fact that, what assume is the Sport edition, will start at $349. Whether this even includes bands, we do not know. It is likely there are going to be different storage capacities for the less expensive models, so it’s not inconceivable to think that $349 is going to get you the Sport Watch with something like 16GB of storage, and then another $100 for 32GB and another $100 for 64GB.

ANDROID USERS, CHECK THIS OUT! How to get iOS 8’s best new features on Android even before iPhone users get them
When CEO Tim Cook and his fellow Apple executives unveils iOS 8’s great new features on stage during their WWDC 2014 keynote presentation back in June, the most dramatic audience response might have come when the crew unveiled iOS 8’s new Continuity features. With this great new functionality, iOS devices and Mac computers will be more closely connected than ever, able to quickly and easily exchange files and other data. Better still, iOS device notifications appear on a user’s connected Mac, and messages can even be sent and received right from within OS X.
But there’s a catch: despite the fact that Apple released iOS 8 to the public on Wednesday, none of this awesome new functionality is available to iPhone and iPad users yet. If you have an Android smartphone or tablet, however, all of these great features and more are already available thanks to a single fantastic app.

These are the most amazing reactions to iOS 8
Some of the reactions to Apple’s iOS 7 were pretty amazing when it was first release last year. It was a brand new operating system with a brand new look and people either loved it or hated it.
Another year and another update are now upon us, and here are some of the most amazing reactions we have come across. They range from rage to excitement, to joy, to heartbreak. One of the popular themes seems to be the 5GB of free space required to install iOS 8 over the air, which could be pretty tight on a 16GB iPhone. One trick if you haven’t updated yet is to use iTunes, which requires much less free space.

The funniest thing you’ll see today: Tweets composed entirely with iOS 8 autopredict
It hasn’t taken long for iPhone users to start having fun with some of iOS 8’s new features. One iPhone user decided to experiment with composing entire tweets based on iOS 8’s autopredict feature that gives you suggestions for what words you’re likely to use next in a sentence. The user started out with just one word and picked autopredict suggestions about where to go from there and the results were about as ridiculous as you’d expect.

Study Suggests a Large Majority of Mobile Apps Fail Basic Security Tests
In general, we shouldn’t consider mobile apps particularly secure for the foreseeable future. That is if Gartner is correct in its latest analysis.
The firm said this week that over 75% of mobile apps will fail basic security tests through 2015. This is not particularly comforting for businesses.
Gartner notes that enterprise employees download from app stores, and use mobile apps that can access enterprise assets or perform business functions, and that the apps have “little to no security assurances”.
“Enterprises that embrace mobile computing and bring your own device (BYOD) strategies are vulnerable to security breaches unless they adopt methods and technologies for mobile application security testing and risk assurance,” said Dionisio Zumerle, principal research analyst at Gartner. “Most enterprises are inexperienced in mobile application security. Even when application security testing is undertaken, it is often done casually by developers who are mostly concerned with the functionality of applications, not their security.”
“Today, more than 90 percent of enterprises use third-party commercial applications for their mobile BYOD strategies, and this is where current major application security testing efforts should be applied,” said Zumerle. “App stores are filled with applications that mostly prove their advertised usefulness. Nevertheless, enterprises and individuals should not use them without paying attention to their security. They should download and use only those applications that have successfully passed security tests conducted by specialized application security testing vendors.”
Gartner looks even further into the future, and says that by 2017, the focus of endpoint breaches will shift to tablets and smartphones. Through that year, it predicts, over 75% of mobile security breaches will be the result of mobile app misconfigurations as opposed to “deeply technical” attacks.

BREAKING: Galaxy Note 4 launches October 10th, preorders start tomorrow
Samsung managed to beat Apple to the punch by unveiling its flagship phablet for 2014 before Apple made its new iPhone 6 Plus official, but unfortunately announcing a phone and launching a phone are two very different things. Android fans know exactly what they have to look forward to when the Galaxy Note 4 finally hits store shelves, but they won’t be able to get one in their hands until nearly a month from now; Samsung announced on Thursday that it will begin taking preorders for the new Galaxy Note 4 on Friday, September 19th — which also just happens to be iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launch day — ahead of an October 17th release.
