A closer look at Apple’s stunning leaked iPhone 12 design
Does Apple’s iPhone 12 design really matter? As a hardware company first and foremost, Apple has built a reputation for designing some of the most iconic and visually stunning devices ever. From the iMac and MacBook laptops to iPhones, iPads, and the Apple Watch, the company has yet to meet its match. There’s no question that Apple’s designs continue to add to the appeal of its various product lines, but we’re seeing an increasing amount of evidence that the look of the company’s iPhones isn’t as big a factor as many people believe it to be. Remember how upset many diehard Apple fans were when Apple moved from refreshing the iPhone’s design every two years to every three years? Apple fans made it seem like the world was coming to an end back in 2016 when Apple released the iPhone 7 series that looked just like the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6, and yet sales continued to soar. More recently, we saw plenty of complaints about the iPhone 11 series, which looks just like last year’s iPhone XR/XS and the iPhone X from 2017. Lo and behold, Apple set a quarterly sales record in the December quarter on the back of incredibly strong iPhone 11 sales. If not for the coronavirus outbreak, the company might have continued setting records.
It is indeed becoming crystal clear that typical consumers don’t put quite as much emphasis on an iPhone’s design as hardcore Apple fans do, and that makes sense. While avid tech enthusiasts tend to upgrade to a new iPhone model every year, typical consumers are holding onto their smartphones longer than ever. Who cares if the iPhone looks the same for three years if you keep your iPhone for four years or even five? Still, 2020 is exciting because Apple will finally give the iPhone its first major design overhaul since 2017, including the first new case shape since even further back in 2014. Now, it’s time to take a closer look at the leaked iPhone 12 design that has Apple fans buzzing.

The crazy wireless ‘snake camera’ that lets your smartphone see anywhere is down to $29
The Depstech WF010 Wireless Borescope Snake Camera is the sort of thing that you’ve probably never heard of before. Once you get one though and you see how incredibly useful it can be in so many different situations, you won’t be able to imagine ever being without one again.
In a nutshell, this little gadget has three main components. First, there’s a small box that houses a battery and circuitry, as well as a Wi-Fi radio. Next comes the 11.5-foot-long “snake” part of the device, which is a semi-rigid tube that can be extended and shaped however you want. Finally, there’s a camera on the end of the tube that captures live video as you snake the device into anything and everything you want.
DEPSTECH Wireless Endoscope, IP67 Waterproof WiFi Borescope Inspection 2.0 Megapixels HD Snake…: $28.79
There are so many great uses for this device that it’s difficult to know where to begin, so let’s first cover exactly what it does. The WF010 connects wirelessly to your iPhone, iPad, or Android device and turns it into a remote viewfinder and controller. You can see exactly what the camera sees as you snake it into something, and you can also use the phone to record video or capture still photos.
Here’s a quick blurb from a 5-star review on Amazon that explains one of the countless use cases for it:
I had a water leak in my wall. I didn’t know where it was and the Endoscope enabled me to find it by drilling 1/2 inch holes in the wall. I was amazed when I found the water pipe with the hole in it (see image). Hiring a plumber could have cost me over $500, but I was able to isolate the problem and fix the leak for less than $100 (including the cost of the scope).
It’s waterproof, by the way, so that reviewer didn’t have to worry about getting the borescope wet. Here’s another Amazon review:
Worked perfectly to help me get a gas can protector cap out of my tractor gas tank. Handled a half hour deep in diesel gas, no problems!
That second one is of particular interest because it touches upon something else you can do with this Depstech borescope. It comes with a few attachments that clip to the end and add all sorts of functionality. Once cool one is a mirror that lets you see around corners as you work the camera into a tight space. Then there’s a hook attachment that lets you fish things like keys and jewelry out of places you might otherwise never reach. That’s the attachment the reviewer above used to retrieve the cap from his gas can.
There’s a reason the Depstech WF010 Wireless Borescope Snake Camera is one of the most popular smartphone accessories we’ve ever covered: it’s awesome. It’s also on sale right now at its lowest price of the year right now if you clip the 20% coupon on the Amazon page — just $28.79. Definitely pick one up while it’s on sale at a deep discount and email us to let us know how you used it. Maybe we’ll feature your story next time it goes on sale!

Apple’s newest MacBook Air is down to its lowest price on Amazon, today only
We can still recall the exact moment that Steve Jobs pulled the first-generation MacBook Air out of that manila envelope on stage during his Macworld keynote presentation back in 2008. People couldn’t believe it. This sleek new Apple laptop was impossibly slim, and that gorgeous silver aluminum made everything else on the market look boring and cheap. It was a sight to behold, and it would end up reshaping the entire laptop market and spawning a new category of ultra-slim laptops.
In order to get the MacBook Air that slim back then, Apple had to make several big compromises where performance is concerned. Of course, we have come a very long way over the past 12 years and Apple doesn’t have to sacrifice performance anymore to get its MacBook Air laptops so thin. Take the current-generation model, for example.
The newest MacBook Air packs a dual-core 8th-Generation Intel Core i5 processor, Intel UHD Graphics 617, 8GB of RAM, up to 256GB of lightning-fast SSD storage, Touch ID security, two Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports, stereo speakers, and Apple’s stunning signature Retina display with True Tone. Best of all, perhaps, is the fact that the MacBook Air costs so much less now than it did back in 2008 when you had to spend nearly $3,000 to get a build with an SSD! That’s especially true today because Amazon is running a killer one-day deal on the newest MacBook Air with 256GB of SSD storage. You’ll pay $1,299 for this build in an Apple store, but it’s only $999 right now on Amazon — that’s a new all-time low!
New Apple MacBook Air (13-inch, 8GB RAM, 256GB Storage) – Silver: $999.00
That’s an absolute steal for this fantastic laptop, and it’s a huge $300 discount compared to what you’d pay elsewhere. But there’s one more deal you need to know about as well. If you don’t need quite that much power and performance, you can pick up the previous-generation MacBook Air right now on Amazon for even less. The model with a 1.8 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, Intel HD Graphics 6000, 128GB of SSD storage, and 8GB of RAM still sells for $999, but Amazon’s offering a $249 discount today so you can pick one up for only $749.99.
Apple MacBook Air (13-inch, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD Storage) – Silver: $749.99
You really can’t go wrong with either one of these excellent deals. The $300 discount on the newest MacBook Air model is obviously the more rare deal, and we seriously doubt we’ll see it priced this low again anytime soon. The previous-generation model is still powerful and nearly $250 less though, so buyers on a budget should definitely consider it.

How coronavirus might lead to major iPhone 12 leaks
Apple is the best when it comes to keeping smartphone secrets, but every new iPhone leaks in some capacity. It’s not as bad as Google’s Pixel 3 and 4, or every Galaxy S and Note phone that launched in the past few years, but the newest iPhone is featured in plenty of reports in the months leading to its announcement — and who can forget the whole iPhone 4 leak from a few years ago, when Apple lost a prototype of the handset? Still, Apple can keep plenty of new iPhone details under wraps for a longer time thanks to an entire culture of secrecy, as well as a security team that enforces it. This year, however, things may go a little differently than usual, a new report says, and it’s all because of an unforeseen 2020 event.

Galaxy S20’s best feature is a big drain on the battery, but it’s totally worth it
The Galaxy S20 series is available for preorder in several markets, and you can already test it out in stores, if you need hands-on experience with a new phone before buying it. That means you can feel for yourself the new design, test the cameras, and check out the 120Hz refresh rate, a signature Galaxy S20 feature that should make improve your entire Android experience. What you won’t be able to see in stores is battery life, and, specifically, whether the 120Hz screen will have a significant impact on it. Others, however, were able to put the S20 through battery tests, and the first Galaxy S20 Ultra battery tests are already here. Yes, the 120Hz screen will consume a lot of battery juice, but you shouldn’t even worry about it.

The great thing about these credit cards is you can make money just by using them
BGR has partnered with The Points Guy for our coverage of credit card products. BGR and The Points Guy may receive a commission from card issuers.
Please note: the offers mentioned below are subject to change at any time and some may no longer be available.
One of the things that might stand out to the average reader when checking out all the various credit card products we cover here from time to time are the often byzantine-sounding rules and features associated with the cards. It’s not usually stressed amid the coverage here and elsewhere of these kinds of rewards credit cards, but the terms and features can certainly seem downright daunting to a lot of people who don’t have the time or patience to sit down and study all the different ways they can use and get value out of the most feature-rich rewards cards. Keeping track of points and miles, remembering all the specific perks you can enjoy on flights, understanding the travel protections and so much more that come with a card — who has time for it?
Luckily, plenty of card issuers offer at least one benefit that’s much simpler and easier to understand. Today, we’re going to take a look at some of the top cash-back credit cards on the market today. They include:
- Wells Fargo Propel American Express® card: Perfect for travel
- Citi® Double Cash Card: Best for flat-rate cash back

Apple won’t let the bad guy in movies use an iPhone, director reveals
Here’s one of those bits of news that’s going to make a rock-ribbed portion of you out there shake your head in disgust and wag your finger as a result of once again having deeply-held beliefs confirmed. The other half of you will no doubt read this and greet it with a barely enthused shrug of the shoulders. Are you ready? Here goes:
Apple is apparently so conscious of how its brand is portrayed in pop culture, that it has an actual agreement for movie directors stipulating that, no, you may not allow the bad guy in your production to use an iPhone. Give him an Android, whatever other handset you want — but, by god, one of our immaculate, sleek phones better not come anywhere near his evil fingers in your movie.

Supernova dreams crushed as Betelgeuse starts brightening again
For a couple of months now, the nearby star known as Betelgeuse has been acting rather strange. At first, the star appeared to be getting very dim, hinting at the possibility that the Red Giant may soon collapse and explode into a supernova. Not everyone believed the star was nearing its final act, but its strange behavior had plenty of scientists questioning how things would pan out.
The next chapter came earlier this month when observations of the star revealed that only part of it was actually dimming. The star’s glow was taking on a sort of crescent shape, raising the possibility that its surface was just acting weird and that the star wasn’t actually approaching a supernova event. Now, new observations are pushing the supernova theory even farther out the window, and it now appears the star isn’t actually at risk of going supernova.

‘The Matrix 4’ filming winds down in San Francisco with explosions, wrecked cars, and melted lamps
It’s been a pretty surreal, vaguely dystopian scene in downtown San Francisco over the past couple of weeks as filming continues on the set of Matrix 4, with area residents routinely greeted to terrifying sights that have by now become commonplace. Things like low-flying helicopters, simulated gunfire, heart-pounding explosions, movie stars visible amid the rubble, and so much more.
As filming winds down in San Francisco before the crews and actors prepare to move on to new locations in the coming days, some of the most dramatic set footage yet has emerged from fans and area residents pretty gobsmacked by what they’re seeing. Indeed, recent days have included the sight of ominous-looking helicopters hovering low to the ground, explosions that have flipped and wrecked cars, and even heat from those explosions that have melted nearby street lamps. “We just saw the plastic that was all melted, so we didn’t know what was going on,” Encar Orozco of JCDecaux street furniture told one local news outlet. “We called our manager and we found out that it was some explosion for the movie.”

This animal doesn’t breathe, and it’s a first for science
Earth has an incredible diversity of animal life. It comes in all shapes and sizes, and lives in just about every type of environment our planet has to offer. There are, however, a number of things that all animal life has in common. Now, according to a new paper published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, there’s one fewer thing on that list: breathing.
In the paper, an international team of scientists reveals the discovery of a microscopic animal that has no mitochondrial DNA, which means it doesn’t need to breathe in order to stay alive. Woah.
