Galaxy Note Edge hands-on: Samsung’s newest phablet packs a huge twist
Samsung has proven time and time again that it is not afraid at all to experiment with new ideas. Sometimes, those ideas lead to huge new product segments — imagine Samsung hadn’t pushed so hard with supersized smartphone screens. Other times, the company falls flat on its face. Of course, Samsung has enough money in the bank that it can afford to fall down while it searches for “the next big thing.”
Is the brand new Galaxy Note Edge an aha moment featuring meaningful innovation or another instance of Samsung throwing spaghetti at the wall to see if it sticks? We’ll let you be the judge.

Galaxy Note 4 hands-on: Does Apple’s iPhone 6 phablet stand a chance?
Samsung wasn’t the first handset vendor to launch a smartphone with an oversized display, but there’s no question that Samsung single-handedly popularized the new “phablet” category. The company laughed in the face of neighsayers — myself included — and proved that consumers were indeed looking for phones with supersized screens. In fact, devices that would have been considered phablets back when Samsung helped pioneer the category are now the norm, and top rival Apple has been forced to finally increase the display size on its iPhone lineup.
Now, the king of phablets is back with the fourth version of its groundbreaking Galaxy Note lineup, the Galaxy Note 4.

Automatic trip tracker adds Web Dashboard for easier trip sorting, exporting
We’re pretty big fans of Automatic’s savvy trip tracker ‘round these parts, but one of our primary gripes when reviewing it late last year was the dearth of accessible data. For those just catching up, Automatic plugs into your vehicle’s OBD-II port — a port that you may not even be aware of unless you’re mechanically inclined. From there, it syncs with your iPhone or Android handset via Bluetooth each time you take a trip, collecting data on mileage, fuel economy, hard braking, etc. It gathers oodles of useful information, but didn’t really go so far as to make a ton of it available to the motorist.
That’s changing somewhat with today’s introduction of Web Dashboard.

The fastest keyboard in the world is available on Samsung’s curvy Gear S
The Tizen-powered, SIM-enabled, curvy Gear S is Samsung’s latest addition to its smartwatch portfolio, and may be its best wearable computer yet. Sporting a large, flexible display, the Gear S looks nothing like its predecessors, although the device’s biggest flaw may be Tizen, a platform that’s yet to receive any love from developers. Luckily for Gear S buyers that plan to use the device without connecting it to a phone, Fleksy is here to help, at least when it comes to quickly typing messages on the tiny display.

Windows XP is enjoying a very strong life after death
When Windows 8 launched in 2012, Microsoft struggled to convince users that they should make the switch. The new UI was unfamiliar and unresponsive, the critical reaction was skeptical at best and most importantly, there wasn’t really anything wrong with Windows 7. In fact, two years later, Windows 7 still has an enormous lead over Windows 8, but with the latest software update, Microsoft has finally started turning users around on the new OS.

It looks like the iWatch still isn’t close to being ready for mass production
So it looks like we’re going to get our first glimpse of the iWatch (or at least some kind of Apple wearable computer) on September 9th. However, it’s also looking more and more like we’re going to be in for a long wait before we’ll actually have a chance to buy the device. Digitimes‘ sources now say that the iWatch “is still under engineering verification testing (EVT) stage and has to still go through production verification testing (PVT),” which means there’s almost no chance that the device will release before the end of the year.
