A recent report has revealed that the Windows app store filled with crappy apps and deceitful wannabe software that can trick the user into paying for an application that looks like the real thing. It also said Microsoft may be well aware of the situation, as the company both encouraged app developers to deliver Windows Store apps in bulk, and manually approved them. It appears Microsoft is well aware of its Windows Store problem indeed, and the company said on its Windows blog that it will finally restore order to its Windows Store.

Have you ever watched a James Bond or Mission Impossible movie and wondered if any of those absurd gadgets could actually be put to use in the real world? Well as it so happens, the spies on the silver screen aren’t too different from our own Central Intelligence Agency of the mid-1900s. CNET has cobbled together a slideshow of some of the most fascinating pieces of spy tech in the history of the CIA — some of them need to be seen to be believed.

It’s tough to remember an iPhone without third-party apps, but sure enough, the ability to download from the App Store didn’t arrive until iOS 2.0 in the summer of 2008. Though the iPhone 3G wasn’t nearly the global phenomenon that the iPhone brand as a whole is today, it was still quite clear that what Apple had just opened was the modern-day gold rush. Curious users flocked to the App Store on a daily basis — back in my time at Engadget, a few editors even pored through every single app release on a given day to see what was worth downloading. Now, with thousands being published every 24 hours, that same tactic is simply untenable.

Apple cofounder and all around geek legend Steve Wozniak is not a fan of most smartwatches he’s seen so far. In fact, Wozniak revealed earlier this year that he so hated Samsung’s first-generation Galaxy Gear that he decided to sell the device on eBay after less than a day. In a new interview with CNET, the man affectionately known as Woz reveals what he thinks Apple should do to bring get people to buy its first-ever wearable device.
