REVIEW — LG G3: Android has a new king
As I walked through Times Square on my way to the office one day last week, something odd caught my eye that made me do a double take. A sizable line had formed outside of the AT&T store as it prepared to open. I have seen people line up outside of that store before, of course, but typically only when a fresh batch of recently launched iPhones is waiting on the other side of the doors.
This time, however, people weren’t lining up to buy a new iPhone. They were lining up for the just-released LG G3.
And truth be told, this is a phone worth lining up for.

Here’s why you won’t be able to buy a 5.5-inch iPhone 6 in September
Many iPhone 6 reports have claimed the bigger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 model is delayed, as Apple has been experiencing various production issues related to battery size, new display with in-cell touch sensors, or the sapphire front panel. But according to a new report, it appears that’s not why Apple may want to delay the phablet. Digitimes has learned from sources familiar with the matter that yield rates have not been an issue for the 5.5-inch iPhone 6, and the company instead has a completely different reason to hold the handset back.

You won’t be able to stop watching this embarrassing Microsoft promo video
If there’s a better way to promote Microsoft’s OneNote solution and its new Surface Pro 3 tablet, we have no idea what it is. Several members of the Microsoft OneNote team recently came together to film a parody of LMFAO’s hit song of yesteryear, “I’m Sexy And I Know It.” Since they’re promoting the Surface Pro 3 and Microsoft’s great cloud-syncing notes solution OneNote, their cover is appropriately named “I Click It And I Note It,” and it focuses on OneNote’s simplicity as well as the speed with which people can take notes using the Surface Pro 3 tablet.

Unifor may establish local union for Toyota’s Canadian plants
Filed under:
Union tactics apparently translate across borders, as Canada’s Unifor may take inspiration from the United Auto Workers’ recent move at the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN, and establish a local for the Toyota factories in Cambridge and Woodstock.
Unifor last attempted to organize the workers at the two factories, which are responsible for production of the Toyota Corolla (above), RAV4 and Lexus RX back in April, but that vote was eventually delayed. According to that report, 3,000 of the two plants’ 7,500 employees signed union cards, but that apparently wasn’t enough for Unifor to force a vote.
Because of this, the union is looking at the local approach, like what the UAW is attempting with VW.
“We have union halls in Woodstock and Kitchener-Waterloo; they could elect an executive and run monthly membership meetings,” union president Jerry Dias told The Windsor Star. Dias added that the union “continues to sign up new members on a regular basis.”
So what would the benefit to employees be if they sign up with the local? According to The Star, while Unifor couldn’t act as a bargaining agent for the workers, employees would still be able to take part in other union activities. It’s not entirely clear what these include, though, and as the primary mission of a union is to act as a bargaining agent for employees, the idea of a local would appear to leave something on the table.
As for when this plan could come to fruition, Dias says a final decision isn’t expected until fall.

This is the metal Galaxy S5 you’ve been waiting for… without the metal
Samsung has long been rumored to work on a new flagship smartphone made of metal, for a change, that will take on the upcoming iPhone 6, and two different online publications have posted images of the device, including Tinhte and SamMobile. Unfortunately, for Galaxy fans waiting for an all-metal high-end Galaxy Alpha to come out this fall, it looks like the handset won’t have that much metal and that it won’t necessarily be that high-end either.

There’s no Swatch in your future iWatch
Apple is widely expected to launch at least a couple of different iWatch models this fall, that will be laden with many sensors for fitness and health purposes, and connect to iPhones for notifications and other data. While VentureBeat has learned from sources in the know that Apple has bigger smartwatch plans than that, as the company is working with famed watch giant Swatch on releasing several other iWatch models, the Swiss company told Bloomberg that it doesn’t plan to work with Apple on the iWatch.

Netflix has learned a thing or two from its U.S. online movie streaming business, and the company will apparently bring an impressive infrastructure in the new European markets it plans to serve starting with this September.
