Amazon reportedly thinks it can ship 2-3 million Fire Phones in 2014
Amazon is already taking pre-orders for its new Fire Phone – although no matter how cool its features may be, it doesn’t mean we’re looking at the next big thing right here – and DigiTimes has apparently learned that the giant retailer has high hopes for its first smartphone ever.

BREAKING: BlackBerry posts narrower than expected Q1 loss as smartphone sales improve
BlackBerry on Thursday morning reported earnings that beat the Street’s expectations by a significant margin, suggesting that the company’s cost-cutting measures are paying off more quickly than analysts expected. For the fiscal first quarter ended in May, BlackBerry reported a loss of $0.11 per share versus the consensus estimate of a $0.25 loss per share. The company’s $966 million in Q1 revenue missed consensus estimates of $976 million, but smartphone shipments improved to 1.6 million units from 1.3 million in the year-ago quarter.

T-Mobile wants to win you over with a free iPhone 5s test drive and free music
T-Mobile is now ready to offer potential customers one more reason to change mobile operators, as the carrier on Wednesday announced a new element of its Uncarrier operation. Starting on Monday, June 23, T-Mobile will let customers sign up for T-Mobile Test Drive on the company’s website in order to try out T-Mobile’s “data-strong network” for seven days free of charge on an iPhone 5s that’s also provided by the carrier.

It’s taken just 4 years for QWERTY-equipped smartphones to go extinct
BlackBerry diehards may love smartphones with QWERTY keyboards, but their numbers are very few. A new chart posted by Alex Barredo of Post PC shows that the percentage of mobile phones with full QWERTY keyboards was still at above 25% as recently as 2010, even though today it stands at somewhere around 1%. In fact, QWERTY-equipped phones didn’t really start to drop off the map until the period between 2011 and 2012, when their share of the market plunged from around 20% to well below 10%.

Stop us if you’ve heard this before: Apple and Samsung reportedly near a patent truce
Apple and Samsung may be closer to a ceasefire when it comes to their never-ending patent wars, according to a report from The Korea Times. The Times source—an industry official “familiar with the negotiations”—said the two companies no longer want to spend their time fighting each other over patents.

Drift Mania DMCC 2014 kicks off at Quebec’s Riverside Speedway

We know all our Canadian drifting fans have been waiting for this, and if you weren’t in Quebec to witness the madness yourself, then sit tight, and enjoy our coverage of the first round of the 2014 Drift Mania Canadian Championship. Round 1 took place at the Riverside Speedway, in St. Croix, Quebec.
The weather was not cooperating as it was raining all throughout practice, qualifying, and top 32 runs. It finally cleared up around the time the top 16 were on the grid ready to battle it out. There was an overflow of water on certain parts of the track. So much so, that during the break period the track crew had to resort to water pumps in order to get the track conditions in order… READ MORE

Fleksy brings its smart keyboard to even smaller screens
Fleksy on Wednesday launched a Messenger App that offers Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch users access to the company’s smart Fleksy keyboard app, allowing them to more easily compose SMS messages on the tiny display of the device. The application, a first of its kind for Samsung’s wearable device, is available as a free download from Samsung Apps.

Google spills some new details about how Android Wear will work
Google published a video on Wednesday introducing future developers to Android Wear, the platform on which many of the most anticipated wearables will run in the coming months and years. Other than a few hardware announcements, there’s still a great deal we don’t know about Android Wear, but this video from Google’s Timothy Jordan should help clear a few things up.
