Let’s be clear right off the bat: The Xbox One is an awesome console even if it is currently in second place behind the PS4 in terms of sales. All the same, sales do matter and shrewd Xbox fan Paul Thurrott notices that this year’s Xbox One presentation at E3 marked a dramatic reversal from the presentation that Microsoft gave at E3 2013 where it went out of its way to tout all of the new console’s home entertainment features. This year, however, it was all about the games and Thurrott thinks that a big reason for this is that Microsoft made a lot of major public relations mistakes with gamers last year.

Breaking: Google heads to outer space with latest acquisition

Google is leaving planet Earth. The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday afternoon reported that Google has reached a deal that will see it acquire Skybox Imaging for $500 million. Discussions between the two companies had previously been reported by The Information. Skybox operates a number of satellites that it uses to capture ultra high-resolution photos of Earth, and it is believed that Google will use the satellites’ capabilities to capture Google Earth imagery of areas that were previously not accessible.

A great idea, ruined: Perpetual negativity is driving me away from social

I’m spending far less time on social media these days than I once did. A combination of factors have led to this. First off, there’s the inherent risk of saying something that ends up crossing an esoteric line and gets you fired while you’re high above the Atlantic en route to Africa. Second, it’s simply too noisy to make sense of in any sane amount of time. And third, I’ve found that focusing more on my surroundings — things that I choose to take enjoyment in — leaves less time for negativity to find its way into my soul via someone else’s keystroke.

Apple may be planning to release bigger iPhones but for the time being, Samsung and its Galaxy Note series of devices remain the kings of the phablet world and the upcoming Galaxy Note 4 is shaping up to be a real show stopper. SamMobile’s sources say that the American version of the Galaxy Note 4 will be powered by a 2.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor and will feature a quad-HD display and a 16-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization (OIS).

As expected, EA’s press conference on Monday was packed with new titles from some of the biggest studios in the world. EA Sports showed up with five new games, most of which will be out before the end of the year, Maxis is preparing to release the fourth entry in the hugely popular Sim series this September, BioWare is working on a new Mass Effect game as well as a game still in its earliest conceptual stages and Waystone Games is putting a fresh spin on MOBAs.
