WSJ: Sprint and T-Mobile have agreed to a $50 billion merger
Although Sprint and T-Mobile are facing some steep regulatory hurdles, the two companies are apparently going to try to go ahead with their merger anyway. The Wall Street Journal’s sources say that Sprint parent company SoftBank and T-Mobile parent company Deutsche Telekom have agreed to a deal that will see SoftBank acquire a majority stake in T-Mobile for $40 per share in a deal worth $50 billion. T-Mobile’s shares closed trading Wednesday at $34.28 each while its market cap stood at $27.46 billion, so it looks like DT will be getting a nice premium from SoftBank in the deal, especially since the Journal’s sources say it would retain a 15% to 20% stake in T-Mobile even after the deal is complete. SoftBank has argued that it needs T-Mobile to build Sprint into a truly competitive wireless carrier, although its arguments have been greeted with skepticism by regulators so far.

Ford ST Octane Academy [w/video]
Filed under:
The ST school is about more than just handbrake turns, hot laps, and sliding into parking spaces.
I felt like such a rock star. On my second pass around the UrbanCross course (read: fancy autocross) at the Ford ST Octane Academy, I absolutely nailed the exit, sliding the bright-yellow Focus ST sideways into a box the size of a parking space, all four wheels in line.
This was just one of many bits of hooliganism learned during my day at the Academy – a school offered to any Ford Focus ST or Fiesta ST owner, free of charge. This one-day course, with an optional second day, teaches not only the basics of on-track driving, but lets owners experience all of the hilariously fun bits of hot hatchery built into these little turbocharged wonders.
Did I mention it’s free? All you have to do is get there, with “there” being Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT.
As I would come to learn during my time in Tooele (that’s “too-illuh”), the ST school is about more than just handbrake turns, hot laps and heroic slides into parking spaces. Mixed in with all of the antics was a crash course on understanding car control, along with simple tools that’ll help you be a better driver in everyday situations. And man, was it fun.

This incredible Star Wars Star Destroyer model was built with 40,000 LEGO bricks
There are times when you don’t know whether to applaud someone’s talent or tell them to get a life. One such instance comes to us via The Escapist and it involves a man from Poland who has built an amazing replica of an Imperial Star Destroyer out of more than 40,000 individual LEGO bricks. The person in question, a Flickr user by the name of Jerac, says that the Destroyer model contains “about 50 kilos (110 pounds) of pure bricks without any steel internal support” and “holds itself together and is straight.” The model itself is remarkably detailed and it contains just about every single nook and cranny that you see in the Star Wars movies. We’ve included one picture of the model below but you really ought to check out Jerac’s full gallery to get a sense of how incredible this really is.

Apple’s Swift makes it easier than ever to accidentally delete every file on your Mac
Both iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite were clearly the focus of Apple’s WWDC keynote, but one of the biggest surprise announcements was the reveal of Swift, a new programming language for developers. One of the language’s most noteworthy features, the playground, allows developers to test their code as they type, but without a “sandbox” to protect the computer, this can lead to some very unfortunate accidents.
