Here’s what kind of Mac you need to run OS X Yosemite
Apple on Monday at WWDC 2014 unveiled OS X Yosemite, its latest Mac operating system, which brings a variety of visual changes, but also many new interesting features that will further improve the overall user experience of those customers who own multiple devices from the company. Yosemite will be released free of charge to consumers in fall 2014, with the open beta program to be available to 1 million Mac users later this summer, so there’s plenty of time to get your affairs in order and make sure your current Mac setup is compatible with the latest OS X version.

This one story illustrates why everyone hates Comcast
Comcast CEO Brian Roberts said last week that he and his team “don’t wake up everyday and go to work and say we want to be hated” and then suggested that everyone hates Comcast because other companies such as TV studios are constantly forcing it to raise its customers’ prices. However, one story flagged by Consumerist actually shows perfectly well why Comcast is one of America’s two most hated companies and it has nothing to do with higher cable prices.

Microsoft Office is coming to Android tablets before Windows 8 tablets
After Microsoft released Office for the iPad many of us assumed that the company would release a version for its Windows 8 tablets next. ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley, however, reports that this is not the case and that Microsoft will instead be bringing its touch-centric version of Office to Android before it comes to Windows 8. Foley’s sources also say that the touch-centric version of Office for Windows 8 will now likely release in the spring of 2015 and not the fall of 2014 as she’d previously heard.

Star Wars-like 3D projectors may be coming to smartphones sooner than you think
Earlier this year, we revealed that Amazon is working on a phone that uses multiple cameras to make its screen look 3D. While this may sound like something that will bring us one step closer to Star Wars–esque holograms, it will be much different because the 3D image would clearly be under the phone’s display. However, one company from California is working to go a step further, and according to a profile by the Wall Street Journal, we may see its 3D projector that can fit into smartphones and living rooms as soon as the end of next year.

John Oliver’s successful net neutrality appeal broke the FCC
Net Neutrality is one of the hottest tech- and Internet-related topics right now, as the FCC’s proposed regulations could have a negative impact on the way Internet companies work, and ultimately, on the pocket of regular Internet users. But because the matter seems complex, and awfully boring in some cases, not many people take a stance against the FCC’s proposals. That has been the argument of comedian John Oliver’s appeal to Internet trolls. And not only that — during his Sunday HBO show “Last week Tonight” he called upon trolls to tell the FCC how they feel about its proposal.

Killer iOS 8 feature will turn your iPhone into a game controller for iPad and Mac
The keynote might be over, but that doesn’t mean WWDC 2014 is a wrap. In fact, shortly after the keynote ended, Apple went behind closed doors to give another presentation to developers in which the company revealed a new feature for iOS 8: controller forwarding. 9to5Mac reports that controller forwarding is the continuation of the MFi controller compatibility Apple brought to the iPhone last year. With iOS 8, an iPhone equipped with an MFi controller, like the Razer Junglecat seen above, can be used as a controller for an iPad or a Mac.

The absolute worst Apple vs. Google analysis you’ll read all week
My least favorite kind of tech punditry involves saying that some company is “losing” or even better “doomed” because it’s not behaving exactly as one of its competitors is behaving. We hear all the time that both Apple and Microsoft are “doomed” even though they are enormously profitable companies that account for two of the three largest market caps in the tech world. One shining example of this sort of punditry comes to us courtesy of FinancesOnline, which declares that Apple is falling far behind Google because the products that it’s releasing don’t seem as exciting as Google Glass. I am not making this up.
