%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A teenager in Oklahoma is crediting the Apple Watch for alerting him to a serious heart condition that may have otherwise gone undetected. In a story that first appeared on KFOR News, 13-year-old Skylar Joslin was sitting in class when an alert about his heart rate appeared on his Apple Watch. To his credit, Joslin reacted immediately and quickly fired off a text to his mother.

“I got a text message along with a screenshot of his heart rate that was 190,” Joslin’s mom said. A follow-up message from Skylar relayed that he suspected something was wrong given that he wasn’t engaged in any type of physical activity at the time.

In rare misstep, SpaceX loses Falcon 9 during landing attempt

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

In its continued efforts to create a global communications network with its Starlink satellites, SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 rocket today, delivering another 60 of the spacecraft into Earth orbit. It was a relatively routine mission for the company and its attempt to land its Falcon 9 booster was expected to go smoothly. It did not, in fact, go smoothly.

As it has done many times before, SpaceX’s droneship was expected to catch the booster after it delivered the payload. Cameras aboard the droneship did not show the rocket making its soft landing. In fact, it didn’t show the rocket at all.

Samsung’s Galaxy S20 Ultra has the best smartphone display ever made

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

After a few years of incremental upgrades, Samsung’s new Galaxy S20 models arguably represent the company’s most compelling offering in years. Introduced last week at the company’s annual Unpacked event, Samsung’s 2020 smartphone lineup consists of three devices: an entry-level 6.2-inch Galaxy S20, a 6.7-inch Galaxy S20+, and last but not least, a gargantuan 6.9-inch Galaxy S20 Ultra. As a point of reference, Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro boasts a 6.5-inch display, which is to say that the S20 Ultra is almost veering into tablet territory.

Per usual, Samsung’s Galaxy S20 Ultra houses the company’s latest and greatest technologies and, in turn, the device is priced accordingly. While you can get the S20 for under a grand, the entry-level Galaxy S20 Ultra will set you back a cool $1,399. That said, if you’ve got the money to spare, and if you don’t mind a somewhat imposing form factor, the S20 Ultra certainly provides users with a lot of bang for the buck.

Report: Apple will hold an iPhone 9 launch event at the end of March

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple hasn’t had much to say about new products in 2020, but the sheer number of rumors that have been popping up in recent weeks makes it seem all but inevitable that a major spring media event is in the cards. We’re still waiting on Apple to send out invites, but on Monday, German site iPhone-ticker.de reported that Apple is planning to hold an event in late March, with Tuesday, March 31st a likely candidate for the precise date of the event.

Purportedly reliable sources tell the site that the successor to the iPhone SE (rumored to be called the iPhone 9) will make its debut at the event, and that the phone will then go on sale just days later, on Friday, April 3rd.

Coronavirus outbreak could lead to global Nintendo Switch shortage in April

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Health and safety obviously take priority over business when it comes to the coronavirus currently spreading around the world, but it’s impossible to ignore the impact the virus is having on virtually every industry. Supply chain sources tell Bloomberg that a production bottleneck caused by the outbreak will likely make it difficult for Nintendo to supply enough Switch consoles to meet demand in the US and Europe as soon as April.

A limited supply of components coming from China is reportedly slowing production at a Nintendo assembly partner’s factory in Vietnam, where many of the Switch consoles that end up being sold in the US are built. If the factory does not receive enough components this month, it will affect how many Switch units arrive in April.

Apple issues rare earnings warning, says coronavirus will cut into Q2 revenue and iPhone sales

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Confirming speculation that the coronavirus will have an adverse impact on Apple’s bottom line, the Cupertino-based company today issued a brief press release stating that it’s expecting a revenue shortfall this quarter on account of the virus. The announcement shouldn’t come as much of a surprise in light of reports of factories in China shutting down as health professionals are still actively seeking to contain the coronavirus and prevent it from spreading further.

Galaxy Fold 2 leak: Launch timing, display specs, color options and more revealed

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Samsung officially launched its second-ever foldable phone — the Galaxy Z Flip — last week, and the reaction so far appears to be much more positive than what the Galaxy Fold received last year. The Z Flip is still bulky for a flagship smartphone in 2020, but its design is far more palatable than that of the Galaxy Fold, and Samsung seems to have high expectations in terms of sales, according to insiders with knowledge of the matter.

But the Galaxy Z Flip is not a replacement for the Galaxy Fold, as a sequel to the original foldable is expected out in the coming months, and XDA’s Max Weinbach has been on a roll with leaks lately.

Apple’s first new iPhone of 2020 is on track to launch next month

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The coronavirus outbreak’s latest figures show more than 71,000 confirmed cases, including 1,775 fatalities and nearly 11,400 total recoveries. The spread of the COVID-19 virus is yet to be halted despite the containment measures taken by the Chinese government. Coronavirus fears forced the cancelation of the Mobile World Congress, the biggest event of the year for the mobile industry, and the outbreak will delay the manufacturing of various goods, including the Nintendo Switch, as well as other popular consumer electronics. However, the low-cost iPhone that Apple reportedly plans to introduce next month might not be affected, according to a new report.
