Congresswoman says Google and Netflix are the real broadband moochers
People generally like Google and Netflix and they generally really, really hate their ISP. However, The Hill reports that Representative Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) would like to correct your thinking: You see, it’s broadband companies such as Comcast and Time Warner Cable who are the real innovative producers out there while the content-producing companies are “free-riding” moochers.

Beck/Arnley Celebrates 100 Year Anniversary
Having reached the milestone of their 100th year in business, Beck/Arnley has marked the historic event with a variety of celebrations and materials celebrating their first century.
“We are very proud that Beck/Arnley still carries on the strong business traditions established by Irving Beck in 1914,” said Sandy Norris, director of marketing. “We have adapted and changed with the industry, and the fact that our brand has not only survived but flourished for a century is a huge milestone and one we are honored to continue.”
Part of marking the event is the release of a special video and the creation of an anniversary section on their website. Both highlight the rich history of the company and its many accomplishments with vintage photos accompanied by historic advertisements and catalog covers.
The video and website are just the beginning of many ways the company will celebrate during the course of the year. Employees have united to give back to the community in 2014, focusing on several local charities including pet rescues, Habitat for Humanity, and a local shelter. Other special employee and customer events are also planned for later in the year.
Beck Distributing Corp. was founded in 1914 in New York City by a young man in his 20’s named Irving Beck. He saw a future in accessories and spare parts for motorcycles, which were starting to become popular. By the beginning of WWII, Beck Distributing was established as one of the leading suppliers of motorcycle parts and accessories in the U.S.
As the industry rapidly changed, so did Beck’s vision. In the late 1940s, he saw another opportunity with the emergence of the import sports car in the United States. British car makers were anxious to find U.S. distribution for their parts, so they went directly to the successful motorcycle parts distributor they had been selling for years – Beck Distributing.
As the decades passed, Beck Distributing grew with the industry. There were key mergers and acquisitions, each serving as a building block critical to the company’s success.

Apple is preparing to release iOS 7.1.2, likely to fix two major bugs
It won’t be much longer before Apple unveils iOS 8 but the company is still going to push out one last update to iOS 7.1 that will likely fix two critical bugs. MacRumors has noticed a distinct uptick in traffic coming from devices that run on an unreleased build called iOS 7.1.2 that it speculates will be used to patch bugs related to email encryption and text messages that don’t get delivered to former iPhone users who have switched to Android, Windows Phone or another mobile OS.

Yet another hugely important reason Google Fiber is better than your broadband service
Say what you want about Google being “evil” — I, for one, love how evil Google is — but the company has repeatedly shown us that its high-speed Internet service, Google Fiber, is quite possibly the least “evil” option in the country. In the two markets with access to Google Fiber, Google offers three tiers of home broadband service: 5Mbps/1Mbps service for free (that’s right, free Internet), 1Gbps service for $70 per month, and 1Gbps service with 150 TV channels for $120 per month.
Compared to widely available packages from leading ISPs and pay TV companies, those rates are amazing. And now, in light of the net neutrality issues that have reemerged in recent months, we have yet another reason Google Fiber is better than your current broadband service.

Apple’s iMessage problem is worse than we thought
Apple has a lot of very unhappy former iPhone users on its hands and it doesn’t look like the problem is getting fixed anytime soon. For those of you who haven’t heard, there’s a major bug in Apple’s iMessage software that will prevent you from receiving text messages from other iPhone users if you’ve switched to a phone that runs on a rival operating system. The problem arises when people switch from the iPhone to Android or Windows Phone without changing their phone number — apparently, Apple keeps that number in its data base and still has it marked as belonging to an iPhone user. This means that any text messages sent through iPhones to that number get stuck in Apple’s cloud and aren’t pushed out to smartphones that run on a different OS.

Nest founder: No Google ads for you, Nest buyers
A Google SEC filing revealed that the company plans to deliver ads to more devices, including thermostats, refrigerators and other appliances, suggesting that Google’s Nest could soon show commercial to product buyers, even though the company pledged not to display ads on its products in the future, following the Google purchase. After ad-related details about Google’s SEC document were published, Nest’s co-founder said that the Nest thermostat will not get ads, just as previously stated, Re/code reports.

Motorola denies Moto 360 price, stays silent on actual smartwatch cost
Motorola on Wednesday kicked off an interesting Moto 360 watchface design contest, which has as the main prize the company’s first Android Wear smartwatch. The contest rules also include the value of the device – listed at $249, which is in line with the European pricing for the device mentioned earlier this week – but the company has denied it on Google+.
