Don’t worry if you missed ‘Parasite’ in theaters – it’s coming to Hulu soon
The local theater chain where I live previously hosted a limited run for Parasite, the runaway indie hit directed by Bong Joon-ho that took home a slew of Oscars Sunday night including the coveted ‘Best Picture’ award. I noticed today, though, that the film, which tells a gripping story about class and greed, is coming back for a new run at even more theaters here, which should come as no surprise and might be the case where you live, as well. Big Oscar winners often make returns for one more showing in theaters, to capitalize on all the buzz that comes from winning a golden statuette.
I mention all that, though, because it also gives us a clue about something else: The timing of Parasite’s eventual streaming release.

Microsoft is pissing off Firefox users by trying to convince them to switch browsers
Internet Explorer has obviously been a punch line for much of its existence, but when Windows 10 arrived a few years ago, Microsoft wanted a fresh start. Enter: Microsoft Edge. The new browser first launched on Windows 10 and Xbox One in 2015, and although it didn’t exactly make a dent in Google’s complete domination of the market with Chrome, it was unquestionably a major improvement over IE (even if that was a rather low bar to clear).
A few years after the initial rollout of Edge, Microsoft revealed that future versions of the browser would be built using the Chromium source code, which is the same code Google uses to make Chrome. After months of testing, Microsoft finally released the Chromium-based Edge browser to the public on January 15th, 2020. It is a sleek and serviceable browser, but Microsoft has found a way to irritate the users it wants to convert from other browsers.

Popular iOS email apps might be spying on you
Call me old-fashioned, but I’ve always enjoyed using Apple’s built-in Mail app for iOS. Sure, the app itself admittedly lacks some advanced features you can readily find on third-party email clients, but the overall user experience is simple, serviceable, and relatively straight forward. I’ve tried any number of email clients over the years, but I always seem to revert back to Apple’s own Mail app for iOS.
While I can certainly understand the desire to use a more fleshed out email client for iOS, you’d be well-advised to do some research before downloading certain email clients from the App Store. As laid out in a new and eye-opening article on Motherboard, a number of popular email apps — including one that can be found in a list of top 100 Productivity apps — have been busy scraping user emails and selling anonymized data to third parties.

Microsoft’s Xbox boss just gave an update on one of the Xbox Series X’s most exciting features
Expectations for backwards compatibility on next-gen consoles have skyrocketed in recent months, as rumors have suggested the PlayStation 5 is capable of playing every PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 game ever made. Of course, Sony has yet to confirm this, and there hasn’t been much compelling evidence, but one way or another, being able to play old games natively on the upcoming consoles has become a major topic of conversation.
In the coming weeks and months, as Sony and Microsoft begin to pull back the curtains on the PS5 and Xbox Series X, we’ll see whether or not the feature is as robust as the rumors claim, but in the meantime, Xbox chief Phil Spencer offered up an interesting update regarding the feature in a recent interview.

Did the Academy leak all the major Oscar winners last week?
The 92nd Academy Awards are behind us, but this will be one we’ll be talking about for years to come. For the first time in Oscars history, a foreign film took home the Best Picture award, and what a film it is. If you haven’t seen Parasite, you might as well give it a chance now that it took home the big prize.
Then there was Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker role that was rewarded with the Best Actor award, a huge win for superhero films, and probably a huge disappointment for Martin Scorsese, whose The Irishman took exactly zero awards home, even though it was nominated in multiple categories. Add to that all the surprising snubs, including the underrepresentation of women, and you’ve got one controversial Academy Awards. The Academy made things worse for itself last week when it briefly appeared that it leaked all the big Oscar winners via its predictions tool.
