Microsoft officially reveals Xbox Series X, coming holiday 2020
In what is easily the most shocking reveal in the history of The Game Awards, Microsoft officially announced its next-gen Xbox near the beginning of the awards show. Xbox Series X is the name of the new console, and as you can see from the image above and the trailer below, it looks unlike any video game console we’ve ever seen before. Honestly, it looks more like a gaming desktop PC than it does like an Xbox One.
Of course, that’s rather appropriate, considering it will be an extraordinarily powerful machine. As Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, explains on the Xbox Wire, the Xbox Series X delivers four times the power of the Xbox One X, and despite the potentially misleading image, supports both vertical and horizontal orientation.

FTC may seek injunction to prevent Facebook from merging chat features across Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp
The FTC may seek an injunction in order to prevent Facebook from tightly integrating features across its suite of messaging services. The potential injunction, The Wall Street Journal notes, arises out of fear that once the integration is complete, breaking up Facebook into disparate entities would become difficult, if not impossible.
Word of Facebook’s plan to merge chat features across Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp first surfaced earlier this year and is reportedly being championed by Mark Zuckerberg. Broadly speaking, the planned integration would enable users from one of Facebook’s properties to chat with users from any of the company’s other properties. As a simple example, an Instagram user would be able to seamlessly chat with a WhatsApp user even if the latter party doesn’t have an Instagram account.

Samsung’s Galaxy Fold has somehow racked up a million sales already
At the TechCrunch Disrupt Berlin event today, Samsung Electronics president Young Sohn shared a revelation with the crowd about the company’s Galaxy Fold smartphones that might sound shocking to some people. In spite of the many flaws associated with Samsung’s first attempt at a foldable smartphone, it seems the company has sold 1 million units so far, up from an estimate of half a million from back in October.
And just in case you miss the point, Samsung definitely sees that as a win. Sohn was asked during today’s event if the company is still comfortable selling what’s “essentially a beta device” for almost $2,000. Sohn said yes it is, and that sales figure proves why.

The Game Awards 2019 live stream: Watch right here at 8:30PM ET
Awards season has officially begun, and while it may not carry the same weight as the Oscars or the Golden Globes, The Game Awards will be returning for the sixth consecutive year on Thursday. The 2019 edition of the awards show will begin at 5:30 PM PT / 8:30 PM ET, and will once again be hosted by Geoff Keighley.
If you’ve never tuned into the show before, the awards are just part of the appeal, as the show has also been host to several major reveals in years past. This is the last real opportunity to tease new titles before the end of the year, and there are plenty of studios that don’t want to pass it up. So even if you aren’t that interested in whether or not Control can beat out Death Stranding for Game of the Year, you might still want to tune in.

AirPods are such a hit for Apple that they’re about to surpass peak iPod sales
Everyone is constantly on the lookout for discounts like the one we told you about yesterday, regarding Amazon’s price cut yet again on Apple’s massively successful AirPods Pro and AirPods 2. All of Apple’s AirPods models got deeper discounts at Amazon during Black Friday and Cyber Monday than at any other retailer — and consequently sold out in a flash. As of the time of this writing, the AirPods Pro are still listed as “temporarily sold out” on Amazon, but you can still grab them for the Black Friday price of $234.98 (cheaper than pretty much everywhere else) and Amazon will ship them to you when they can.
This is the latest evidence of how AirPods have been selling like hotcakes for Apple — so much so that the product is about to notch a major milestone. According to a new analyst report today, the wireless earbuds are about to surpass peak sales of the iPod, which is a major achievement when you stop and think about how closely associated with the Apple brand the iPod once was.

The FAA knew the 737 MAX was potentially unsafe
A pair of Boeing’s 737 MAX 8 commercial airliners crashed in the span of just five months between late 2018 and early 2019, claiming hundreds of lives and forcing airlines around the world to ground their own 737 MAX 8 fleets while officials from multiple countries investigate.
Now, as Boeing and its airline partners are working towards the eventual relaunch of the jets and resumption of flights for hundreds of the planes, a report from the Wall Street Journal suggests that the Federal Aviation Administration knew that the 737 MAX was potentially unsafe. Following the first crash, the FAA’s own investigation estimated that 737 MAX jets could crash as frequently as once every two to three years.

You will now see fewer ads on Hulu while binge watching your favorite shows
One of the best promotions I took advantage of this year was a free subscription to Hulu through my Spotify Premium account. I’m not sure I ever would have paid for Hulu otherwise, but I have discovered a few great shows that I would have missed out on otherwise without spending an extra $6 per month. The only downside of the promotion is that it comes with the basic Hulu plan, which includes ads during every movie and TV episode.
Thankfully, Hulu is introducing a new ad experience this week that should help to cut down on the number of times that everyone with a basic plan is interrupted while watching a bunch of episodes in a row. As Hulu’s Jeremy Helfand explains in a recent news release, “the binge ad experience is tailored to the viewer’s situation and will reward them for bingeing with the next episode commercial-free or a personalized offer from a brand.”
