Deadpool’s MCU debut might happen as soon as Phase 4, but not in the way you think

Disney buying Fox is one of the best things that could have happened to Marvel’s MCU, as all the properties Fox owns the rights to have been brought back home. The X-Men and Fantastic Four heroes and villains are all game for the MCU now that Disney controls everything, and, best of all, Deadpool is also joining the MCU.

Deadpool is the only character whose journey so far will remain unchanged. Marvel will bring the Merc with a Mouth over to the MCU and keep in place everything we loved about the character. The question is: When will we see Deadpool in an MCU film? Plenty of reports said recently that a Deadpool 3 announcement may be imminent, but that the film likely won’t arrive until Phase 5. After all, Marvel already unveiled its plans for Phase 4, and there’s no space for a Deadpool standalone film. But a new report claims that Deadpool could be introduced as soon as 2021, in a totally unexpected way.

Apple just made it even easier to buy a new iPhone

Four months after Apple launched its new credit card product Apple Card, the iPhone maker is now offering a financing plan that lets customers use the card to buy their next iPhone and pay for it in installments over two years, interest-free.

Here’s how it works: When you use Apple Card to buy an iPhone utilizing this financing plan which launches in the US today, your monthly interest-free minimum payment will get lumped into your overall monthly minimum Apple Card payment in the iPhone’s Wallet app. The thinking is that Apple might be able to spur more sales this way, via a recurring bill instead of a major lump-sum purchase.

In tandem with the launch of the financing plan, Apple also announced a related sweetener: The company says it will start offering a 6% discount on purchases made using Apple Card at its stores through the end of this month.

Netflix could lose millions of subscribers as rivals continue to pick up steam

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

For years now, the value proposition offered by Netflix has been absolutely incredible. Even with a string of price increases over the years, the ability to enjoy a wildly large library of quality content for as little as $8.99 remains a remarkable deal. In turn, it’s no surprise that Netflix’s subscriber base, over the last three years alone, jumped from 86 million to 158 million.

The success of Netflix, however, spawned a new battleground for consumer attention in the media space. It’s certainly an interesting development, especially given that Netflix not too long ago was on a path towards total streaming domination. Today, however, Netflix is facing stiff competition on all fronts as companies like Amazon, HBO, Disney, Hulu, and even Apple are trying to slowly but surely chip away at Netflix’s subscriber base.

Chrome will now let you know if your password has been stolen

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A new feature that Google is baking directly into its Chrome browser will ostensibly help all of us stay much safer when surfing the web. As explained in a new company blog post today penned by Google senior product manager AbdelKarim Mardini, the search giant is adding a feature to Chrome similar to one it’s been working on for a while that showed up as an extension earlier this year. The gist is that when you’re logging into a website while running Chrome, Chrome can kick in and alert you if that username and password have been stolen as part of the cavalcade of data breaches we’ve all read about.

“Chrome has safety protections built in, and now we’re expanding those protections further,” AbdelKarim writes. “When you type your credentials into a website, Chrome will now warn you if your username and password have been compromised in a data breach on some site or app. It will suggest that you change them everywhere they were used.”

Cops bust man who received $100,000 worth of meth in an air fryer

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A man in Kentucky got more than he bargained for when he took delivery of an air fryer that police say was packed with some $100,000 worth of meth. According to a post by the Louisville Metro Police Department, a package containing a Hamilton Beach air fryer was believed to be a drug shipment, so narcotics officers tracked it to its delivery address.

Upon verifying the package had been received, officers executed a search warrant and found that the box with the air fryer also included approximately 20 pounds of methamphetamine. That quantity of meth carries a street value of roughly $100,000.

Netflix is testing a new ‘Watch Now’ feature that makes it more like regular TV

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Netflix has such a massive base of viewers at this point, spread across so many corners of the globe, that any improvement in the company’s streaming service — no matter how small — can end up having an outsized effect.

Say, for example, you give people a way to cut down by even just a few seconds the amount of time they spend browsing content within Netflix’s app. You just let those users dive into something to watch straight away, no time spent mindlessly scrolling. In theory, across a big enough chunk of subscribers, that would juice a big boost in engagement and represent a spike in usage in the aggregate. That seems to be what Netflix is thinking with a test of a new feature that’s underway around the world. The new feature is called “Watch Now,” and it’s exactly that — a way to skip the browsing and immediately start watching content.

One of the Google Maps features you can’t use right now just launched in more markets

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Google Maps is one of the best navigation apps, but not all of its features are available in every market where the app can be downloaded. That’s partly because Google rolls out new features in stages, so users in some countries might not get access to some Maps features as fast as others. One other reason is that some Google Maps features are meant to cater to only certain markets. Google on Tuesday expanded the availability of one such feature to more markets, but most people still aren’t going to be able to use it.

Frontier Airlines fare sale has flights for $20, and we promise that’s not a typo

%name Articles of Interest by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It’s that time of year again — when presents start piling up under the Christmas tree, when carols and holiday songs are heard everywhere you go, and air carriers start dramatically slashing prices on airfare to spur even more holiday travel. In some cases, so much so that the tickets ought to just go ahead and be free.

For an example of the latter, we turn once again to Frontier Airlines which only a week ago kicked off a Cyber Monday sale that discounted flights by as much as 99%. Today, Frontier has another series of deals ready for fliers to take advantage of — this time, the hook being flights that start at a mere 20 bucks.
