The FCC just made it easy for carriers to lie to you about your 5G coverage
Remember when AT&T dared to show 5G E indicators on phones even though said devices had no actual 5G components that could connect to 5G networks? Well, don’t be surprised if your carrier decides to suddenly tell you your area has access to 5G coverage even when it’s not the case. And you can thank the FCC.

NASA’s probe spots asteroid spewing chunks of itself into space
NASA started off the year strong with big news from its OSIRIS-REx asteroid probe. In early January, NASA celebrated the successful insertion of the probe in an orbit around the space rock known as Bennu. The year since that milestone has been filled with interesting observations and a whole lot of lovely photos, but one of the most puzzling features of Bennu may finally have an explanation.
It wasn’t long after OSIRIS-REx began returning observations of Bennu that researchers spotted something bizarre. The asteroid seemed to be flinging pieces of itself around, with particles launching from the asteroid’s surface and eventually settling back down on new areas of the rock.

When cell phones got smart, they started hurting people
We like to think that smartphones make our lives a bit better, and in a few ways, that may be true. I mean, you couldn’t Facebook-stalk your ex on an old flip phone, right? Anyway, it seems that smartphones may actually be dangerous to our health, and not just because they suck up our souls and barf them out in a pile of regrettable tweets.
A study published today in JAMA draws a very clear link between the emergence of smartphones and head and neck injuries related to their use. The study includes data gathered between 1998 and 2017.

2020 is shaping up to be an incredibly busy year for both Samsung and Apple, the two most notable smartphone manufacturers on the planet. With respect to Apple, the company is expected to launch five new iPhone models next year. Samsung, meanwhile, will not only be launching its line of Galaxy S11 models, but will also introduce the Galaxy Note 10 Lite and the S10 Lite, cheaper variants of the Galaxy Note 10 and the Galaxy S10. Though both devices were originally slated to launch this year, rumor has it that the launch window has now been pushed back to early 2020.
With the Note 10 Lite and S10 Lite release date steadily approaching, rumors and renders surrounding both devices have started rolling in at a rapid clip. Just yesterday, for instance, renders of the Note 10 Lite surfaced online courtesy of noted leaker @OnLeaks. The renders, while instructive, were a bit bare bones. Today, however, a pair of more interesting renders of both the Note 10 Lite and S10 Lite surfaced online courtesy of AndroidHeadlines.

Apple just released iOS 13.3 beta 4 for the iPhone
It had been far too long since Apple last released an iPhone beta, so the company decided to surprise us all with a late release on Thursday morning. iOS 13.3 beta 4 has now been released for Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch lineup, while iPadOS 13.3 beta 4 was released alongside it for iPads. This release is all about bug fixes and ironing out wrinkles, as opposed to adding new features, and the star of the show is clear: A fix for the RAM management issues that were slowed devices down by screwing with multitasking.
