‘Half-Life: Alyx’ is a full-length VR game coming to PC next March

The last Half-Life game is now more than 12 years old. Valve released Half-Life 2: Episode Two on October 10th, 2007, with the intention of wrapping up the story in a third and final episode. That third episode never arrived, and in the decade since, fans of the first-person shooter franchise have been anticipating any news at all about a follow-up. That news finally arrived on Monday, in the form of a tweet from Valve announcing a brand new game.

Half-Life: Alyx is a virtual reality game set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2. As the name suggests, you play as Alyx Vance — Gordon Freeman’s companion introduced in Half-Life 2. This isn’t just a spin-off or a tech demo — Valve is referring to Alyx as a full-length game, and it’s coming out in March 2020.

‘Spider-Man 4’ rumored for 2023, but it might not be part of MCU Phase 5

Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t even started and yet we already have eight release dates for Phase 5. Of those, however, we only have one title that has been confirmed — Black Panther 2 for May 2022. It might be a while before Marvel actually reveals any of the others, but while we wait, there’s an exciting rumor you should be aware of. Spider-Man 4 might be released in 2023, two years the Spider-Man 3 movie that will be part of Phase 4. However, there’s no telling whether or not the fourth film in the franchise will still be part of the MCU.

Apple is making big changes to how it builds software so iOS 14 might be less buggy

Following the calamitous launch of iOS 13 this year, Apple reportedly plans to overhaul the way it develops and tests software updates in the future. According to Bloomberg, Craig Federighi, Apple SVP of software engineering, recently held a meeting with the company’s software developers to announce the changes.

As the report explains, Apple’s development process was a mess prior to these changes. As recently as iOS 13, some teams would add new features to the latest build on a daily basis, while other teams would add features weekly. Many of these features would not be fully tested or functional, which meant “testers would go days without a [usable] build, so they wouldn’t really have a handle on what’s working and not working.”

A few days ago, a Sony innovation was uncovered thanks to a patent filing that showed illustrations of a device that looked like a video game cartridge. At the time we thought Sony might be working on a second console, other than the highly anticipated PlayStation 5. In the days that followed, we saw speculation that said the cartridge might actually be a modular SSD storage solution that would help Sony keep the PS5’s price in check, and we explained why that might be a great idea. It turns out the mysterious invention is indeed a storage cartridge, one that Sony briefly featured in a product video for a new device that you can’t even buy yet. But there’s a big twist: It’s not the PS5.
