‘The Mandalorian’ will probably have no effect on ‘The Rise of Skywalker,’ and that’s a shame
One month. That’s all the time we have left until the next Star Wars movie premieres. The final episode in the Skywalker saga will tell us how this trilogy ends. But what exactly are we supposed to be excited about? The thing that made Avengers: Endgame so great was the epic cliffhanger in Infinity War. Of course, it helped that Marvel took a decade to build up this fantastic story. For Star Wars, Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII felt more like a conclusion for the third trilogy. As I explained almost two years ago, The Last Jedi feels like a movie that doesn’t need a sequel. I will see the film when it launches next month, but I’m not as excited as I should be about this epic conclusion. That was hardly the case before The Last Jedi‘s premiere, when I was looking for answers to so many questions from The Force Awakens.
On the other hand, The Mandalorian‘s arrival did make me want to see more Star Wars stories, and the format absolutely works for the franchise. The epic finale of that first episode will excite any Star Wars fan. That’s easily the most exciting thing about the series so far, and the most exciting thing to happen to Star Wars in years. However, it’ll probably mean nothing for The Rise of Skywalker, as epic as that revelation might have been.

NASA’s adorable underwater rover might be the first to discover alien life
NASA is about to put a rover to the test in Antarctica, and it’s unlike any robot the agency has ever shot into space. A far cry from the bulky, boxy Mars rovers Opportunity and Curiosity, the BRUIE rover looks almost like a toy by comparison. Its cutesy form factor belies its incredible potential to discover something that scientists have spent decades hunting for: Alien life on other worlds.
BRUIE — short for Buyant Rover for Under-Ice Exploration — is built for a very specific purpose. Its design allows it to crawl along the underside of an ice cap, fully submerged in incredibly chilly water. Antarctica is the perfect place to test such a bot, but its creators hope it will one day explore the waters of icy moons like Enceladus and Europa.

Apple says it actually loses money every year on its repair programs
Even though Apple’s share of the smartphone market isn’t anywhere close to a level that would warrant calling the company a monopoly power, lawmakers have recently become taken with the idea of investigating large tech companies for alleged antitrust behavior. In turn, Congress a few months back sent a letter to Apple seeking answers to a wide range of questions pertaining to how Apple conducts is business.
As you might expect, some of the questions sent to Apple demonstrate a clear lack of understanding of Apple’s business and the tech space in general. Citing just one example, Apple was asked how it selects which apps “are required to share their revenue with Apple.” You would think, with the App Store now more than 10 years old, that lawmakers charged with looking into Apple’s business practices would know that developers are the ones who decide whether or not to charge for a particular app.

More evidence that the Galaxy S11 display will be the first of its kind for Samsung
We already noted earlier this month that, come next year, the Galaxy S11 is expected to deliver a fantastic display experience that’s not only better than that of its predecessor, but also unlike anything ever seen up to this point on a Samsung phone. And now, thanks to a new tip from prolific leaker Ice Universe, it’s starting to look even more certain that Samsung will favor a high refresh rate screen of 120Hz for phones in the Galaxy S11 lineup.

Kraft Heinz recalls cottage cheese because it might have plastic and metal in it
Cottage cheese isn’t for everyone. Cottage cheese that has plastic and metal in it isn’t for anyone. Kraft Heinz just issued a recall of some of its Breakstone’s brand cottage cheese because it may be contaminated with foreign material. More specifically, the company fears that the product contains bits of plastic and/or metal.
According to the company’s official recall bulletin, they first realized something was amiss when a customer alerted them to pieces of red plastic in cottage cheese they purchased. Five additional complaints from other customers who found metal or plastic in the product left the company with no choice but to issue a recall.

How hackers hijacked Android phone cameras without anyone knowing
The camera experience is one of the most important features on phones these days, and all smartphone vendors out there are in a race that has no end in sight to deliver the best mobile camera in the world. Google and Samsung are two of the leading contenders in this contest, but it turns out that Pixel and Galaxy phones suffered from a severe security issue that could have allowed hackers to access all photos and videos on a device without the user’s knowledge. Moreover, hackers could activate the camera in real-time to extract information such as the user’s location, or record voice calls. The security was a lot broader than Google and Samsung phone, Google explained. And while Google Camera patches were issued to mitigate the problem, it’s unclear whether the vulnerabilities discovered can be used to target other Android devices.
