iOS 13.5 GM out now for developers ahead of public release
- Apple started seeding the golden master build of iOS 13.5 to developers on Monday.
- iOS 13.5 GM and iPadOS 13.5 GM mark the last changes before the update is released to the public.
- We can expect to see the public launch of iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 within the next week.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Following an interesting beta testing period that included an impromptu name change, the iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 golden master builds are now being seeded to developers. iOS/iPadOS 13.4.5 actually morphed into iOS 13.5 in the middle of the beta testing process when Apple introduced a new SDK in beta 3.
“iOS 13.5 speeds up access to the passcode field on devices with Face ID when you are wearing a face mask and introduces the Exposure Notification API to support COVID-19 contact tracing apps from public health authorities,” read the release notes for the iOS 13.5 GM. “This update also introduces an option to control automatic prominence of video tiles on Group FaceTime calls and includes bug fixes and other improvements.”

$50 accessory makes your home internet so much faster
- Speeding up your home internet speed and making your connections more reliable is much easier and less expensive than you think.
- Buffering and slow internet speeds are always frustrating, but it’s even worse in the age of coronavirus because everyone is spending so much time online.
- Before you do something drastic like buying a new router or a pricey mesh Wi-Fi system, there are a pair of less expensive options you should explore.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
You’re finally done with a long day of work. Maybe you grab a quick bite to eat, or maybe you skip the food and pour yourself a drink. You plop yourself down on the couch, turn on the TV, and get ready to stream the next episode of your new favorite show that you’ve been waiting all day to see. You settle in as the show begins, and you can’t believe what’s about to happen. Then, all of a sudden, facepalm: The image starts to get all pixelated or even freezes completely as your TV, set-top box, or console struggles to download the video.
It’s so very aggravating, and it happens all the time. What you might not realize, however, is that there’s such an easy way for most people to fix this irksome issue.
A lot of the time, your Wi-Fi connection is the main source of the problem. Sometimes there’s interference, or if you live in a big household it could be a congestion problem. Sometimes it’s an issue with range, and you can get away with a cheap fix by picking up a Wi-Fi range extender. The best-selling TP-Link model on Amazon is on sale right now for just $17.99, or the newer version that’s more than twice as fast can be had for just $29.99.
TP-Link N300 WiFi Extender, Covers Up to 800 Sq.ft, Up to 300Mbps,WiFi Range Extender,WiFi Repe…: $17.99
TP-Link AC750 WiFi Extender | Covers Up to 1200 Sq.ft and 20 Devices Up to 750Mbps| Dual Band W…: $29.99
If you want an even better fix to the problem, you need to ditch wireless on your device and switch to a wired internet connection. Of course, no one wants to spend hundreds of dollars installing Ethernet, and we would never suggest that. Why bother when you can instantly transform any regular old power outlet into an Ethernet port in about 2 seconds?
Head over to Amazon and check out the TP-Link AV1000 Powerline Ethernet Adapter. It really couldn’t be any simpler. Just plug one box into a power outlet near your router and the other box into an outlet near your TV or computer. Connect to each box separately using a regular old Ethernet cable, and presto! You’ve got yourself a gigabit Ethernet connection that you just installed yourself in seconds. What’s more, this awesome top-rated powerline kit is on Amazon right now for $49.99.
TP-Link AV1000 Powerline Ethernet Adapter – Gigabit Port, Plug&Play, Power Saving, Ethernet Ove…: $49.99
Check out this review from Amazon to get an idea of what you can look forward to when you get one:
Works well. I have a PS4 Pro and the wifi connection is terrible. It’s sad that Sony is actually aware of this & their only advice is to get a hardline into it. My router is in a different room & it can’t be moved. It wasn’t even that far away. My Apple TV and phone had no problem connecting to it in the living room.
Anyways, I got this because I use Playstation Vue for television as well as the usual streaming services like Netflix and games. I would constantly get kicked off the network & it was becoming unbearable, like literally every hour it would go down or start running super slow. I did some searching on the internet and found that unfortunately, I wasn’t the only person with this problem on their PS4. I got this upon the positive reviews from other PS4 owners.
Set up was super simple. Took all of 30 seconds. The connection has been great so far. My internet speed is 60 down and with this when I tested the network on the PS4 it came in at 40, which is way more acceptable than the 15mb/s download I was getting prior with the PS4 wifi. Some of the reviews here on Amazon say after a few months they start to suck, so I guess we’ll see. Thus far though it has been great and I haven’t dropped my network connection nor has it slowed to a crawl either. I would definitely recommend these for people who are having the same issue I am and can’t move their router.
That’s just one example of an endless number of people who have eliminated the annoyances of Wi-Fi without spending a ton of money to have Ethernet installed in their homes. What are you waiting for?!

A face mask that can kill coronavirus on contact is in the works
- Researchers are designing face masks that would include an outer enzyme membrane capable of killing the novel coronavirus.
- The enzymes would interact with the virus’s spike protein that lets it latch on to human cells and multiply.
- The face mask would not eliminate the risk of a COVID-19 infection, as face covers alone aren’t enough to stop the virus.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Early on, we were told face masks weren’t necessary, but as more evidence came in, it became clear that we should all be wearing masks. Talking loudly and singing are enough to emit tiny droplets that may be invisible to the naked eye, but they can contain viral loads that are potentially infectious. The CDC revised its guidance on masks a few weeks ago, advising people to wear any sort of face cover if medical face masks and respirators aren’t available in stores.
Wearing masks while indoors is advisable, although the masks aren’t perfect. They can’t offer total protection. Touching your eyes, nose, or mouth after handling the mask, or while using it, is risky, as the virus can be present on all sorts of surfaces you’ve touched, including the mask. But researchers are now working on a face mask that would be able to kill the SARS-CoV-2 virus on contact.

Stimulus check update: Here’s what happens if you missed the direct deposit deadline
- The IRS is still in the process of sending out waves of coronavirus stimulus checks which were funded by a $2.2 trillion emergency relief bill Congress passed at the end of March.
- Last week, the IRS set a deadline for taxpayers to submit their direct deposit banking details. If you missed that deadline, here’s what happens next.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
The disbursement of coronavirus stimulus checks by the IRS is still rolling along, with the effort set to deliver checks of up to $1,200 for individuals and $2,400 for married couples (with an extra $500 for each eligible child) to help blunt some of the economic pain of the pandemic that’s ravaged the US.
If you still haven’t received your direct payment yet — and, unfortunately, millions of Americans are in that boat, which sort of defeats the purpose of stimulus payments, but we digress — there’s an important update to be aware of in terms of when and how you’ll eventually receive that payment. At this point, there’s a strong chance you’ll have to wait on your check to arrive in the mail as opposed to electronic delivery via a direct deposit into your bank account.

iPhone 12’s stunning throwback design showcased in new video
- iPhone 12 concept video shows off the phone’s new design with a stainless steel frame, dual cameras, and a smaller notch at the top of the display.
- The 5.4-inch iPhone 12 is one of four new flagship iPhone models expected to launch this fall.
- Apple is rumored to be pricing the iPhone 12 at $649 — cheaper than the iPhone 11.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Before the world turned upside down, 2020 was shaping up to be one of the biggest years the iPhone had ever seen. The iPhone SE refresh was just an appetizer for four flagship phones in the fall, all of which were expected to feature OLED displays and 5G connectivity. But due to the coronavirus pandemic, there’s a chance that Apple’s plans had to change, and release dates might slip as a result. On the other hand, Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed just days ago that production is back on track after some temporary supply shortages in February.
Despite all the chaos, Apple will likely launch four new iPhone models this fall, even if supply is limited and the dates end up slipping by a few days or weeks. And while there will undoubtedly be demand for all four models, the one that most people will be picking up is the iPhone 12, following in the footsteps of 2019’s best-selling iPhone 11. Over the weekend, we got a great look at the iPhone 12’s presumed design.

Apple Watch Series 3 is back in stock for $179 at Amazon
- Amazon is running a big sale today on the popular Garmin Forerunner 645 smartwatch that offers savings of up to $220.

- People who use an Apple Watch often say they couldn’t imagine being without one, and there are a number of fantastic features that make it easy to see why that would be the case.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Garmin is running a big sale on Amazon today that slashes the Garmin Forerunner 645 smartwatch to the lowest price we’ve ever seen — just $229.99. That’s a terrific price for a smartwatch that retails for as much as $450 depending on the model you choose. While the watch works with Android devices and iPhones alike, it will likely only appeal to Android users today. Why? Because Amazon is offering the Apple Watch Series 3 right now at its lowest prices ever in both the 38mm and 42mm sizes, and it features much better integration with iOS than any third-party model ever could.
The Apple Watch is the greatest iPhone accessory Apple has ever made for one simple reason: it replaces the iPhone for so many things. You no longer need to take out your phone to see notifications, respond to texts and iMessages, control smart home devices with Siri, and so much more. You also have access to zero-touch information thanks to the Apple Watch’s complications, which are basically the widgets Apple has never allowed on the iPhone’s home screen.
Spend a day or two with the Apple Watch and you’ll see how great it is. You’ll also never be able to go back to life without one. Now happens to be the perfect time to discover for yourself what all the full is about because Amazon is selling the Apple Watch at its lowest price ever. Pick up a 38 mm Apple Watch Series 3 right now for just $179, or you can jump to the larger 42 mm Apple Watch Series 3 for $209. Those are both $20 discounts compared to the new lower price of the Series 3 model, but these prices definitely won’t last long.
Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS, 38mm) – Space Gray Aluminium Case with Black Sport Band: $179.00
Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS, 42mm) – Silver Aluminum Case with White Sport Band: $209.00
Here are some of the key details from the Apple Watch Series 3 page on Apple’ website:
- See how much you Move, Exercise, and Stand.
- Track every way you work out.
- Splashproof. Swimproof. Surfproof.
- Store your favorite songs. Or stream over 60 million with Apple Music.
- Get the exact workout metrics you need. Down to the decimal.
- Never miss a call. Say what?
- Just raise your wrist to ask Siri.

Coronavirus vaccine may be ready in 2020, but don’t ‘bank on it’
- We shouldn’t expect a coronavirus vaccine in 2020, according to Dr. Tom Inglesby of Johns Hopkins University.
- Vaccine development takes a long time and requires extensive testing, even when scientists are working at a breakneck pace.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
We’re now months into the novel coronavirus pandemic and while social distancing and stay-at-home orders have helped to slow the spread of the disease, a vaccine could make things a whole lot easier. We’ve been warned since the start of all of this that expecting a vaccine before 2021 was foolish, but with scientists fast-tracking the development of multiple vaccine candidates, there’s hope that one might be available sooner rather than later.
Now, in an interview with NBC News, the director of the Center for Health Security at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Dr. Tom Inglesby, says we can remain hopeful, but “don’t bank on it.”

We might know exactly when the PS5 will finally be revealed
- Sony has yet to announce any specific dates for PlayStation 5 reveals this summer, but a new leak seems to suggest that we should expect a major event on June 4th.
- Microsoft has decided to spread out Xbox Series X reveals throughout the summer, but Sony might have one big blowout to show off its console and games.
- Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.
Microsoft and Sony are both preparing to launch new game consoles this holiday season, but the public health crisis has forced both companies to significantly alter their plans. Microsoft had planned to have a huge blowout at E3 2020, showing the Xbox Series X in action along with all of the first-party titles in development for the launch of the console, but E3 was officially canceled in March. So instead, we’re getting a summer full of virtual reveals.
Sony is holding its cards much closer to the vest. The last next-gen announcement from the company was the reveal of the DualSense controller on April 7th, and we haven’t heard much of anything about the PlayStation 5 in the weeks since. But a new report suggests that PlayStation fans won’t have to wait much longer.
